Hi everyone,,There's getting to be a lot of people on here and I'm kinda of curious,,of what kind/style of hunting do you do?...My main focus is on Old Coins = #1..If I'm hunting an old farm field etc. then any ornate item also grabs my interest but I'm mainly hunting for old coins..I'm always up for the challenge of working the older So Called worked out parks etc.... These are some of my most enjoyable rewarding places to hunt..I have also dabbled in bottle, gold and relic hunting too, with little to no success when compared to coin hunting....To make it simpler for you to reply/answer I have categorized the various kinds/styles of hunting by a number..If you want to, just leave a number or just leave after reading this...Thanks..thumbs down..JJ

Hi Kevin,,Thanks I agree, I always wondered who hunts for what on here..There's so much talk about Iron/nails I get confused, it's a word that gets way to much attention....Hunting in a park etc. your dealing with rust flakes etc. too but you also have pull tabs and bottle caps etc.to deal with and there's very little mention of that on here....It's hard to specialize in all of the above, so for right now I'm focusing most of my attention on coins....JJ

1. Coin hunter....and depending on the area gold ring hunter....

Gold is too broad as we have gold nugget and gold jewelry hunters especially those that hunt beachs or water itself...

Hi Dan ,,I agree but you can put # 3 Gold...nugget,water, land, jewelry hunter etc.....When I created this I could not think straight I could of just left it blank but I thought I would try to make it easier for everyone....I'm surprised there's bottle hunters here too,I never heard that topic come up before....If I could post pictures I could display some of them too....JJ

For the past 3 or 4 yrs it's been #7 and #13 Jimmy :-D

but this year I'm switching again (for about the 4th time in 30+ yrs)

I am going back to gold (water/jewelry) hunting as my #1 this year (starting in spring) with relic and coin hunting going to become my secondary focus for a while.

P.S.

bottles are a by-product of detecting for me

I scuba dive so I find then in lakes/rivers/etc. but I also go bottle dump diggin on occasion too...

2 mostly. 3 on occasion. Never have been much on hunting specifically for modern coins. The idea of driving $5-10 worth of gas to hit and run tot lots or parks only to find some corroded coins that the bank won't take and coin machines spit back out....just doesn't make sense to me. I could probably get into old coin hunting if I lived in an area that held the potential for such. Unfortunately, my area is historically known for poverty and "hillbillies". Until TVA came on the scene, the majority of jobs in this area were timber company jobs. Lots of people in the rural areas didn't get electricity or indoor plumbing until the late 1970s and early 1980s. People just didn't have the money to lose.

My dad grew up in a house built in the 1850s up until around the 1970s. It was torn down in the mid 80s. When I started getting into metal detecting, dad told me when he was a boy, he and his brothers would crawl under the house and porch and find coins they could go buy candy bars with. I inquired about what kind of coins...Dad doesn't know coins well but he said they were the dimes with the seated lady on them. I about had a fit. My first seated coin came from that place though. They bulldozed the house down I still find stuff over there when I go.
