DIY Floating sifter for $18. Shot with my new SJ4000 GoPro clone.

I had replied to an earlier post about what type of body cams we would recommend? I posted I was looking at the China made SJ4000 camera. I had looked at the $300 to $500 GoPro cameras but just couldn't justify the cost. I always though GoPro was made in the USA? But found out different. I found in the "made in China" in super small print on the GP box. Plus just to make sure I contacted GP's support and they confirmed their camera was indeed made in China. So now I don't feel one bit guilty in buying the China made SJ4000. I want to say that the fit and finish on the SJ4000 is super. It came with a ton of accessories. My package also came with a total of 3 batteries for $78 shipped from Oregon. I got the camera in just 3 days. So I used it to film this DIY floating strainer for water hunting. The original video was top notch but showed 6 hours to upload. I had to compress it heavily to get the upload time to 2 hours. So the video doesn't give the camera justice. Anyway here it is....

Kenny,

Looks nice. smiling smiley

Depending on you're location, I suspect you'll need to add quite a few more holes...but it all depends on your dirt/sand.

Good luck using it, and let us know if you make any changes.

I used a old classifier and put a swim noodle on it... They are handy to have. The camera you used does a nice job.... Good price on it also.

Kenny,

Good video quality, even after all that 'compression'.
Well done on the tow behind sluice...I've always thought about making another one.

Yeah....I too am looking at replacing 2 digital DV camcorders with a new one?
Choice is limited enough as I really prefer a bulkier cam over the small GP style cam.
Factor in cams now have 4K HD etc and file sizes and compression comes into play.
To handle that a faster processor is required from a computer so that might have to be
upgrade as well making a camcorder purchase into a very expensive proposition.
Good Hunting

Sweet! I hope to be in the water with mine soon. My camera came with a chest mount clip. But you have to have something substantial to clip it to like a suspender strap, coat or vest.

My DSL is about as slow as dial up! I really liked my old heavier Olympus TG-310. But the problem was it has a rectangular lens that will not accept a fisheye lens. So I have to aim the camera all the time. So to make things easier I mounted this little camera on my hat. I had to compress the actual video around 60%. The original video is super. Take care and good luck finding a camera that fits your needs.

Put down about 6 cold adult beverages and you'll look great on camera! If you don't you won't really care...

I wanted to make one large enough as not to tip over with a large scoop of rocks and mud. Plus it will be able to hold my scoop, pinpointer and lunch box!
