Deciding on a detector could send a man's mind "racing"

I am too busy at work to do much detecting so I sold my detector & used the $$$ towards my son's school clothing. I am hoping to get a detector in the near future, reading all the good things about the Makro Racer has me thinking about getting one when I can afford it. I have always been partial to Tesoro and hope that they come out with something new soon, their current lineup is very good but always good to have even more models to pick from. I read the posts on this forum as much as I can when I have time and appreciate everyones thoughts/reviews both pros and cons and look forward to reading more so keep them coming.

Have a look here for Monte's take on Racer vs. Tesoro.

I do have to work but really love what I do, we sold our cows and land and am now working at a factory making led lights for Ephesus [ephesuslighting.com] at Ansen Corporation [www.ansencorp.com] I got a new position starting last Monday doing what I like doing the most, troubling shooting and repairing the lights. I am now the repair technition, I went up another dollar/hour, not tons of $$$ but a step in the right direction. I now get paid for doing what I did as a hobby when I was farming. I have always liked tinkering with electronics, I do miss some of the things that I did when I was farming but don't miss alot of it.

You will find more accurate info on this forum for sure..Lots of those detector tests in detecting magazines are proof read by the manufactures so in many cases only the good parts are accentuated and bad points downplayed if mentioned at all.....Have to laugh when gold rings and bust coins are found on initial tests.....

It sure is tricky when deciding on a machine.

When thinking of a new machine I look at the following things...

How much do I want to spend ?
How many hours every dig/outing will I be swinging the machine for so then look at the weight of the machine ?
Where's the most time I will be searching ?
Is there lots of iron around the main search areas as then I need to think of the recovery speed of the machine ?
How deep do I really want to dig ?
Do I want it waterproof ?
Do I need a VDI machine and be fussy or an audio only machine only to dig more items ?

After thinking of the above narrows down my options and helps me decide.
