1838 50cent

I dug a 1838 coin 50c........... it came in as a old pull tab, about 4-6 inches, how do I clean it? I was at one of my family farm fields........ [www.youtube.com]

Get a old Oral-B 40 toothbrush.......and cut the bristles to half-length.

Soak the coin in Lime-Away for about 4 minutes.......then use the half-length toothbrush and ......fast......but lightly brush the coin. Do not hit the coin with water until most of the moisture from the Lime-away is gone.

The guys on MDM think its a counterfeit,,,,,, They say if it is its a better find? If it were REAL silver it would have high toned correct? instead is was a old pull tab tone???? Anyone hear of using ammonia to clean old coins? Thank You

What ID do you get in an air-test? Yes, I SERIOUSLY have doubts that it is silver. It should ID as a '89' on the F75. It is either a 'copy' or counterfeit.

CZ-3D came in as old tab, I used your method with the toothbrush...........(good tip) Cleaned up as nice as its going to get! Definitely counterfeit! But still a cool find........... You should see us out there now 3 days in a row after work..............digging all but iron!!!!! "Our sand box!!!!"
