Since my post in 2019 I've added 2 more $1 gold coins to my collection. Both found with the Minelab Equinox 800 11" coil. Both were located in quite a bit of iron trash.

I almost never noise cancel once I do the initial noise cancel at the site. Unless the machine starts to get chatty. I will definitively have to pay more attention to this in the future. That would explain some experiences in the past where I marked targets and left them for a few days to a week. Only to come back to do some detector comparisons on them to find they had essentially disappeared to

I decided to sell my Tarsacci. Used but well taken care of. I've shifted my metal detecting to ghost towns and gold nugget hunting and just don't use the Tarsacci that much anymore. Comes with everything it originally came with. Headphones have never been used. I think I've had this one about a year. $900 shipped to lower 48. If you want to see pics or contact me I can be emailed a

Midlake-For someone without a lot of experience I would start by running the threshold at -2 and the sensitivity at 7. Then as you get more experience with the Tarsacci you can start to creep those numbers up. I have about 300 hours on my Tarsacci now and I still rarely run the Threshold above -1 or sensitivity above 8. With both those numbers maxed out it's really hard for someone without a

Midlake-What was your threshold setting? Maybe I missed that. Once you have the right GB and SB, I find the tradeoff to not using black sand ON, is in using a reduced threshold and/or sensitivity setting. You will lose depth with black sand ON if it's not needed.

Having used both the Equinox 800 and the Vanquish 540 for over a year now. Many times side by side and having both the large and small coils for both. In my 4-5 bar dirt the Equinox is clearly deeper and separates better with either coil. Separation isn't even close with the Vanquish compared to the Equinox. The Equinox with the 6 inch coil has become my favorite bottle cap and flat tin infe

Yes in the saltwater the GPX is clearly deeper. 4-5 inches same as bad dirt. The Tarsacci has about the same depth as a Garrett infinium or the Whited surf master both PI's. The big box TDI is about 2-3 inches deeper than the Tarsacci and I'm fairly certain the AQ is quite a bit deeper as well. I've owed all of the above except the AQ and I'm pretty familiar with how they perf

Well I've got the MDT and a GPX and the GPX with an 11" coil is like 4-5 inches deeper than the MDT. That applies to both saltwater beaches and bad dirt.

Yea I have yet to see a recent comparison with another PI. I would like to see the AQ put up against a GPX, ATX, TDI, TDI beach hunter, etc. If I had one, that's the first thing I would do.

My number came up to buy one but I passed. I would rather wait for the production model or even the prospector model after hearing about the wire issues and short battery life. Never heard any reports of finds/performance gains that impressed me either. Bottom line it's a PI and still has many of the characteristics of most PI's. So if I'm going to own one I want a finished product

I've noticed a lot of the same up averaging on high conductors in my soil as Steve has noted. As a relic hunter coat buttons, silver coins and large cal. bullets will up average on anything 7" or deeper. But when it comes to low conductors there is something different going on. When using Park 1 (I haven't used the other modes enough to notice) low conductors are usually ID'd

Been reading all the responses and thinking about each one. I can live with most of the Equinox physical characteristics, but would also welcome some ergonomic changes.
Originally I thought I would like to see an X Y, Fe Co type screen, but after comments and thoughts by Tom I can see that it would be kind of useless in the areas I hunt.
Don't want or need modulated audio either. Ther

Well anyone who owns a CTX, Deus or GPX knows the coils aren't cheap. So less than $400 sounds about right and if gets 2 more inches in bad soil it would be worth it. Sounds like it would put the Tarsacci very close in depth to a GPX running the stock 11" coil and discrimination to boot. I personally run a 14" most of the time on the GPX at it will be hard to beat it with the Tarsa

Tom-That sounds promising. This may have already been discussed, but will we be able to use the 12" coil with the current Tarsacci software?

Tom-I would have to say that depends on the person and their experience. It usually takes me a day of hunting a new soil type to get dialed in to the sounds. But once I am, I would say that 95% of the time I can tell ferrous from non ferrous. I know people that go to DIV and dig nails all day long. But they are usually the less experienced users who only use their GPX a few times a year.

Rather than start a new thread I decided to add to the existing Tarsacci thread to keep all the data together. I took a trip to Virginia last week for 6 days to Hunt the Diggin In Virginia event. Below is my experience with the Tarsacci for those that want to know how it handles the hot soil.
Day 1-Used the Tarsacci for about 3 hours just to see what settings were required and how the unit han

I've had a few F19's they are definitely good machines in iron. Of all the Fisher detectors I like the F19 the best for old sites. But at the end at the day in all honesty I grab my Deus more because it's just so flexible and can be setup for each site on the fly. The Deus handles my soil a little better than the F19 too.

Sorry guys I didn't post the video to this forum before I left town. Just got back. Good stuff here and other forums about iron masking.
Tom-yes I love doing tests and finding out what I don't know. Your articles and research have had a big impression on my mind as I'm sure it has on others here as well.
Yes dirt makes all the difference. My dirt does a good job of masking on

I personally like a coil in the 9-11 inch range unless I'm hunting rocky or bushy areas. For me it's a good compromise between ground coverage, depth and target separation.

Couple of things I wanted to say after reading comments. It's really hard to portray in a video the whole story behind a site. Each detector was worked from the fence over and once 7 targets were found then a different detector was used. The ground was not gone back over to see what was missed with an other detector. This test was about each metal detector finding it's own items and the

Not me that compared it to the X, others on other forums are the ones making that statement

As you'll soon see in the video, The Tarsacci, Equinox and GPX can hold there own against each other. The only loser in the video is the Deus but it's out of it's element. Deus thrives in surface trash in my dirt not, deeper targets in trash. There's really no magic bullet when it comes to deeper iron masked targets.
