Ok I configured things so I could get a perfect 90 deg sweep right to left and dead center over the coil. I re-ran my tests. Same old dime.
F75 90 Sens
8" max depth. No audio or VDI at all at 9".
V3 RX Sens 6
9" max depth. No audio or VDI at all at 10".
The V3 still has a slight edge in depth over the F75.
I have pictures of the setup if anyone is interested.

Ok I confess it was moving more front to back rather than right to left. But I used the same set up for both machines. Not the best angle but they were both the same setup. I will play with it some more tonight.

I have both a F75 and a White's Spectra V3. I was stuck inside so I set up a test fixture to do some air test comparisons between the two machines. I got a camera tripod and attached a wooden yardstick to it so it looks like a diving board sticking off the top of the tripod. I taped a cardboard curved 'roof' over the stick so I could slide coins down it without them falling off.

Yes I have a F75. And I still like it a lot. I am not a scientific research institute but I will try to do a video that shows things that may interest people.
My test garden is kind of messed up. I put 5 dimes in over a year ago. A couple are WAY too deep. The marks I made so I could locate the targets have gone away. Drat! I also seem to have picked up some trash from home repairs I ha

Make the unit's firmware USER upgradeable!!!!!!!
They do that sort of thing a lot now in 21st century. My new communications receivers have user upgradeable DSPs. (via a small usb port to a PC) Maybe detector companies could join the rest of us in this century?

Well I tried. I was at Roaring Camp in early May. Talk about iron masking. The ground was loaded with black sand. But after doing the ground balancing dance I tried sweeping the side of a cliff. This was an ancient tertiary stream bed. Oh wow was that cool! I saw a band of rust running through the cliff side which was pretty much pure black sand. ie., iron. To make a long story short. No

Yes I did switch frequencies. And that is something I do a lot. Usually one channel up or down fixes most problems. But this was terrible on all the frequencies. I just picked the best one and hunted anyway.
I didn't know about the Disc trick. I will try that. I was on Disc 6 so I was close. Hah!

I took a day off yesterday and went park hunting. Hit two parks in the same town. I found the usual pile of clad stuff. And...
In the second park conditions were terrible. The F75 was pinging and popping a foot in the air at only 70 Sens. There was a factory next door to the park and I have no idea what they did in there. But they sure were noisy. I suspect some strong electrical interfer

Thanks for all the great comments. I know that I am not going to find old stuff in this park. I have found a couple coins from the 1950's. But I am willing to dig up new gold rings if I have to. hehe. The attraction to this site is that this park is very close to my house. And it's huge. Lots of people dropping lots of stuff.
I added voice overs to the video with a MXL990 micr

It is my understanding that the difference between a DD coil and a regular elliptical coil is that the DD is like two donuts side by side and the elliptical coil is like a small donut inside a bigger donut.
Of course that is a exaggeration. But reasonably close. When you start talking coils and resonant frequencies then I could see some tuning if the frequencies were different between a F70

Just in case your weather is rotten here is something to watch..
I have a perfect record of never finding ANYTHING silver or gold.
But I keep trying. I do find nickels, watches(still running), sprinkler heads, costume jewelry, etc. So I think I am on the right track. I just need some better spots to detect.

I found this info while Googling. I thought you might find it useful here too. Short of a jeweler's appraisal...
There are some less reliable methods you can try but there are no guarantees with these:
1. The old “If it will scratch glass it has to be a diamond.” Well, it is true that diamonds do scratch glass but so do a lot of the other fakes on the market. To boot, it’s possible to i

I made a bracket to mount my video camera on my F75. Here is a related video I made.
So now you can all do the same thing. That way I can watch you digging out cool stuff while it's raining here. hehe.

I made a video about headsets. Hope you like it.
Yes Tom I took your suggestion and bought a Koss QZ99 headset. It is a great headset.
I had to edit some out because of YouTube's 10 minute video time limit.

Coming soon to an IMAX theater near you...?? hehe
I agree you are getting pretty darn good with the videos. Nice finds. Always fun to watch. Now if the rain would let up for a day or two while I am on vacation.
I got a little Canon FS100 video camera for my present to myself. That reminds me I have to load the software up.

Iron is not my main problem. It's all the dang blasted aluminum. You know if aluminum was worth as much as gold I think I wouldn't mind at all. I seem to recall that the aluminum makes coins look better than they are. It up-averages them. Same kind of mischief as iron but in the opposite direction. If I dug every beep in the park I hunt I would spend the day within arms reach of my

I was playing around with the F75 All Metal mode. It was fun trying to figure out what I was hearing. And whether to dig or not. The deeper stuff does not give a nice 'BEEP, here I am, dig me!' signal. It kind of whispers at you like a small piece of tinfoil. I tried Mono tone with Disc 6 but I like the 4 tones and a disc of Zero. But even then I get frustrated and crank up the di

Since Tom is taking some time off here is what I can add. Depth on the F75 is based on a coin size target. Bigger targets can show up as being more shallow than they are. And vice versa.
I really don't look at the depth reading much. Sometimes I do. But because the ground is so darn hard out here I can't dig too deep even if I wanted to. Unless I have a backhoe.
That is an o

I regularly go to a large park to hunt. I usually avoid the areas around the big trees due to all the bottlecraps. My usual plan is to sort of wander around aimlessly. But I can't remember where I have been. And I have wandered most of the park by now. So I thought a plan might be a good idea. I decided to swing a full circle around a single tree and dig almost everything. I found lots

Here is a silly video my friend and I made showing what a pain it is to dig holes in California soil. Irrigated parks are somewhat easier but the native soil is tough.

I saw this machine and wondered what the story is behind this F75 look alike? I guess Dave Johnson at First Texas Products made this one. Whats different than the F75? I am just curious.

When shopping for a detector I noticed that some companies put lots of fancy displays and computer stuff on their machines. That is fine IF the basic machine is worth a darn to begin with. Many are not. So it appears to me that they are trying to hide that fact by adding flashy bits.
I am waiting to see how long it will take for a machine to come out that makes multiple tones and sends the

Two things I notice about bottle caps on my F75.
1. The number is a tiny bit higher than real quarters. (1-2)
2. It sounds too good. It pings REALLY hard.
These are very subtle things to notice. I still dig bottle caps but not as many as I used to.
I have # of Tones set to dP.

I liked the F5. LowBoY made a good point about having multiple detectors. It is probably better to stick with one brand so you know what to expect in terms of operating them. It isn't as big of a stretch to switch from a Fisher to a Fisher verses switching from a Fisher to a Minelab. I am seriously considering the F5 as a nice backup machine. And since it uses 9V batteries and the F75
