I know I said I was going to pass on one but oh well you only live once. I'm retaining my etracs though and will do some comparisons with inn ground deep targets. I will be comparing ctx with etrac with stock procoil and the other etrac will have the detech ultimate coil installed. So for the next 48 or so hours I'm cramming like mad, reading the manual and what few post that have al

Albert, how big is the silver coin? ie American coin size comparison maybe, And did you did any trash with it? Seems with a pinpoint like you stated, I would suspect coin on edge or iron deflecting the signal.

Here's my take on the new CTX 3030:
It seems a bit expensive. Is is better than etrac? probably
I like the waterproof aspects.
The weight should have been reduced to at least 4.5 lbs fully loaded.
Funny thing is I have bought 2 new etracs and have both of them registered with minelab and I have never got a questionaire via email or snail mail in maybe asking me what other desirable char

We'll folks here in Middle Tn it's bone dry and the ground is like concrete. Until this changes, I've opted to hunt using my 6x8 sef coil on the etrac and 5" inch on the f75se concentrating on areas I've had some success on using the standard larger coils. I figure this will cut down on the depth I have to dig. This morning early before the 100 degree heat moved using

Took my v3i to a site that was very productive back in the winter using my etrac. I figured what the heck it's bone dry and this site is loaded with iron so maybe I could have some success. Well I was wrong. Seems the V3i was seeing and yes did get fooled by the iron just as much as it did back when the ground was wet/damp. And it's so dry here right now, maybe 100-200 years old dry

Good story Daniel. I too have found 4-4.5 inch silver that other brands of detectors had been over and the etrac nailed it. I may be wrong but the etrac seems to hit better on "on edge" shallow silver. I keep a constant eye on other forums and just don't see the silver coin quantities with other brands that can keep up with etrac. And a lot of etrac users are new users less tha

That's a beauty for sure. How do you like the x-5 coil? I use mine every so often. I find it's a little harder for me to size a target with after using the 10x12 and pro coil. It will sniff good stuff out of trash though and not bad depth either for a hockey puck sized coil.

I look at the other metal detecting forums. I pay special attention to the Fisher F75se, Etrac, Explorer, and the White's V3i subforum post the most. I see plenty of folks using the different brands of detectors trying to obtain good target identification (TID) at depth on 7" plus inches on coins. I see folks using quarters for their comparison test with different settings to try and

I started off the day with the etrac with stock coil. After about 45 minutes with that setup, I opted to change coils on the etrac to the 15wot coil. Swung it for about 45 minutes and went to the f75se with the 7 by 11" coil. Swung that baby from 10am until 4:30pm. Went back to the etrac with 10x12 sef coil. Boy what a tank after swinging the f75se! And just think I even have a bigger

Tom, I have found my results interesting to say the least. I will not render any opinions or conclusions based on my results for fear of infuriating someone. Maybe you could shed some light on the noticeable loss of detection span between the two machines with their respective coils using my test scenario. And have you experienced similar results in your experiences maybe with these detectors?

That's a good question and I have been thinking. The length is the killer. Don't laugh at my suggestions. May I suggest a bag maybe like a big tent would be stored in, a large long musical instrument case, sleeping bag, or maybe you could take some material and have you one made at a place where they do upholstery work( maybe rework a sleeping bag making smaller and install handle or

Albert, I'm open to suggestion on how to "not start a new thread for every test comparison"; however, I don't know all the options available to me on this forum in maybe combining them.. And as far as conclusions go, I won't make any. I'll just do the test comparisons, keep them honest and factual as I can and let the readers/users draw their own conclusions. I do

New Test I plan to keep the test running on one post.
I compared the Etrac and V3i today using their respective stock coils-pro coil and 10dd coils.
My test today consisted of a paperclip laying on clean ground with a clad dime suspended .6 inches above the paper clip. For test sake I ID'd the paperclip using a wide open quick mask screen on etrac and it's ID was 35-41/43. Goin

My next test I plan on doing the same exact test except elevating the coin 1 inch and repeat. I also plan on trying a good 10x12 sef coil that I have for the V3i for test above and the coin elevated 1 inch. And then I will perform the test reversing the positions of the dime and metal object.

I actually did 2 test. And both tests resulted in similar results. One test I used my trusty torquex/allen wrench and the second a paper clip. In first test I placed the wrench on clean ground and on top of it I placed a clad dime inside a plastic rifle scope cover . I compared the etrac with manual sens at 25, 20 and auto plus 0/high trash/fast recovery, disc set to the 27 ferrous line, and

Albert, there's one thing about the V3i I still don't understand. Ground balance. I see where the king of V3i users say it should be reground balanced with every change in a setting. Why? Here me out. The V3i's coil sees the same thing regardless of settings-meaning changing a setting doesn't change what the coil sees, the settings just change what the user hears in the p

Robert, I understand how to set up recovery delay. From your original post I seemed to think you thought I should try a different recovery delay setting to improve the results of the v3i in the test. I actually used recovery delay setting 60 first in the test with varying sweep speeds and then experimented with the others and found no improved effects. I plan to do other test too in comparin

Docbars, that is correct. From the starting position the etrac was IDing the dime. There was no mistaking it. With the f75se it was not as obvious. But at the detecting position when turned 90 degrees with etrac nulled the f75se gave a broken tone in disc 6 1 Tone with ID 9/10. So the F75 saw something in this position, one just couldn't tell what it was. But at least it does give a dig

I did have the etrac in auto plus 3 sens, it performed the same other than it lost some depth/distance. I just didn't mention it as I felt it was unimportant. And yes running an etrac 5 points over will be a falser for sure. I usually stay at no more than 3 points above and have found some deepies, more when dry versus wet.

For me I'll take anything in the 1800's and earlier here in middle Tn. Oldest so far 1845 seated libert dime. Money was not as plentiful here back then, plus the fields were worked more by slaves. In the northeast and midwest, that's where the real money was/is. Plus the soil there is generally a lot better/milder than it is here. But go 70 miles east/southeast/south from here

Goodmore, I like this one for the etrac since its shaft length is fully adjustable for length. You detector can be quickly unhooked to dig in a snap using a small snap like what's on a small dog leash. Not to expensive either about $25.00 and it;s not bulky either. Do a search and you can see a good pic and who sells them. It sure makes the etrac feel

Since I have all 3 detectors I got curious. I review all treasure/metal detecting forums regularly. I notice 2 things when looking. Based on what I see on the forums, etracs are finding more silver especially dimes and from the looks of things the V3i fairs no better than the F75se and I suspect there are more F75's relic hunting vesus coin hunting, so per capita the f75 may be outdoing

Yep, that'll do it. Sorta like strip mining an area. Sorta reminds me of a situation I got into 2 weeks ago. My brother and I were hunting an old home place he owns. It was a virgin site and I was using an etrac, he was using his V3i. I would get a signal and tell him it was a can. I dug it. He asked what are you digging the can for? I replied, getting the aluminum can out of there ma

First a little story. I have this site that just littered with iron and nails, so much so you have to get(outside) the site to ground balance either a f75se or v3i. It has seen human activity (dwellings) since around 1780 with no one living there since 1965. The house, jail and associated structures are since gone. I hunted this site hard 5 times using the etrac with 10x12 sef coil.

I may have used the wrong term to describe the sef coil. I have seen some folks describe it as a hybrid, as well as a double d butterfly coil. Do some searches on detech coils and see what comes up. It has something to do with the back of the Ds on the coils being overlapped versus back to back like a normal dd coil.
