Wow, I like the look of this one.
It might work no better than a turd on a broom stick but it looks nice.
Small coil for it?
Those air tests....don't look outstanding but not good with metric system.

Well since you haven't used either model, you might do well with the Etrac.
There are a lot of old Explorer users that simply didn't warm up to the Etrac way of doing things.
I have heard some complain about both the Explorer SE and Etrac...compared to the Explorer 2 and Explorer XS
that they false more than the earlier models.
I think it has more to do with the Pro coil on those 2

I felt the same way about the sniper coil for them, tried it out on an IDX, didn't get much depth, did a lot of falsing for some reason.
Keith is correct, the 6" was the small coil I got the best performance from.

You might have a hard time finding one used.
Through the years guys tried DDs on Whites XL-Pro, IDX, etc and claimed they didn't work too well.
I always wondered why, perhaps Whites at that time wasn't up to the task of making a superior DD coil.
I see though you can still get them new.....

Golden Mask looks more promising to me, wonder if any dealer here in States?

Ty recommended this, take electrical conduit pipe and drive it in the ground whatever distance then pull it out of ground, place in coin, bullet, whatever
and carefully push dirt out of pipe back into hole.
I tried that once, first I couldn't drive it in the ground the depth I wanted( ground too hard and pipe began to bend from hammering) and I was having a very difficult time getting pi

Disc mode and ground balance allows us to pass iron up to respectable depth.
Now depth is a relative term.
Back in the early days, before ground balance or discrimination, we had BFO and TR which didn't ground balance per se.
Then we got ground balance TR without discrimination which would go fairly deep but if it got out of balance
a major depth loss was incurred.

Keith, I saw Scott had one up for sale a few months ago, don't remember if it was the 1000 or what.
His description was that wasn't that deep, more or less average, I think he may have got a dud.
His had only one coil.
Good to hear yours is running good...6 or 7 hundred? I bet it is more than that....

Thanks, Keith, I realize most are not as interested or perhaps as crazy about small coils and sticking them in the most nail infested areas they can find
as I do hence this information may not be as important.
For some reason I am drawn to these areas, dig out some large iron and see if there is anything left that can be detected.
No doubt there is untold items that will never be unearthed bec

Well, here is how a particular story goes, one has to make up their own mind whether it is true or not, I am sure nothing public would state that it is true:
The Federal Reserve is not part of the govt., it is neither federal neither does it have the "reserve" like it once had.
It is a banking cartel outside the govt.....There is also a world banking cartel that controls most currenci

Apologies first for a slight sidetrack as always enjoy Mike's informative posts....I wish I knew what he does about ring hunting w/F5...lol....
Keith back to our exchange, my post should have been more specific...how does the small coil (5") do in the nail beds as relating
to the mid to hight conductors? (F5/Omega)
In these areas I realize Explorer with 5" coil sometimes shu

My family's place on which I live is loaded with deer, as it is everywhere in my local area.
We allow family members to hunt it all they care to, I've told them to kill all of them.
Most of them are younger and aren't very good hunters and not very motivated as I once was.
In about a 35 mile radius, the deer population has exploded over the past 20 years, worked for years drivin

Kevin, I personally didn't like the default tone for prospecting mode, I changed it to the lowest pitch...this has zero effect on performance.
Even with the 6" coil, in prospecting mode, that joker would go deep...in fact deeper than the deepest all-metal mode of a bunch of older detectors that I have used in the past.
I always thought if I could have mastered the prospecting mode, si

I am in a similar situation...my health isn't as good now so I too have studied up on the lightweight units.
All in all, I think the Omega, at least what has been reported here and elsewhere, seems to do well on coins.
It appears to id a little better than some of the higher freq units.
There can be slight tradeoffs that sometimes needs to be made in order to choose a detector.

Something isn't adding up Kevin.
1 year may not be enough time for minerals to settle from digging out a hole to put item in.
Does it air test ok?
It should id correctly over most of the range of an air test.
If it doesn't air test and id correctly you may have a bad coil, etc.
Perhaps you should do some air tests and observations and let someone who has this unit compare.

The deer hunting scene...
I've got deer in my front yard. So many deer around here....
The more quantity of an item, the less emphasis.....
Haven't deer hunted in years, lost interest...I was more intelligent than them...not enough challenge for me.

Sounds similar to my dirt and that is the reason I have used Explorer for so long.
There are other detectors that did fairly well in my soil.
One note though.Kevin. Mind you I am not particularly taking up for the Xterra...that prospecting mode was the deepest all metal mode (penetrating the ground) that I have used.
Some detectors hate freshly buried items but do much better on naturally bu

From his post, it appears the 4th version.
He apparently has a created "notch" out for pulltabs.
Wonder if pulltabs are different in US than rest of the world?
Yet gold rings vary all over the scale of conductivity.....

Coinseeker, there is not a magic wand as you may have already guessed.
Gathered from one of your other posts, you have a hunting buddy that uses an Explorer.
At this point you should ask him questions, even better see if he will show you something about it and maybe use it a little.
For deep silver, they are hard to beat mainly because they ID so well and at a goodly depth.
They pick out co

Robert, I think you might be right about your setup.
I have a 3300 Discovery/BH and if I take off the control box, it is really light. (making the assumption that yours and mine are fairly the same weight.)
So it might be better to weigh out and see if there is any real savings alum vs carbon fiber.
Aluminum rods would be much cheaper.
I have one of ML lower carbon fiber and though I haven&

I with Keith and Dew on this, if doing this mod, it appears to me that a straight carbon fiber is the way to go.
That would be about as light as one could get it.
Keith, is there a low priced solution for carbon fiber rods? It seems to me that stuff is really high.

Explorer XS or Exp.2 and try to find one of the better working CZs.
According to another thread, your F70 and a T2 SE are a toss up.
So if you must pick one of them...it would have to be the Omega because it is different than the F70/T2SE.
These rumors bout a new Fisher have been going on for what now...a year and a half?
