Easy Johny, you're talking about some respected people here! Seriously, if you ever worked in a manufacturing organization you know that what makes it out the door as a product is often light years from what the engineers could do if they had different marching orders from Marketing, Finance and Executive Managenpment.
The Europeans also ar free from one terrible comstraint - namely that

I like that you use standardized test objects like the 12d nail, and the nickle.

I'm getting a warm feeling that some of my speculations about where this whole thing is going are on the right track. Mmaybe Santa will come early for us in the F-75 crowd.

I guess that I'm a little confused. It seems like all the reviews of the MXT, Gmt, etc. I read included the preference for operating with GB locked to avoid "tracking into" a weak target. Is the Fors gold somehow better at avoiding this problem than previous ground tracking detectors like the GMT, MXT, Lobo Super Trac? Or is it just that it's nice to have the option - in whi

The switch is a 3 position sprong loaded both ways to retirn to center. If the "trigger forward" switch really produces a usable tracking mode, then perhaps the switch could be changed out for a normal 3 position switch. I guess the first step would be to test and characterize the performance with the switch forward as far as changimg mineralization, hot rocks, detecting depth, etc.

Note - I edited this post just after I put it up. I removed some things from the original that were out of line.
Just a thought -
Maybe you should give one of your dealers a call and ask them what the situation is. Many MD dealers websites are slow to update to latest status since they typically have a third party doing the site. You might be surprised at how honest most of these folk

Since Fisher has announced that there will be an upgrade process - and said it would be announced by the end of October;
If you bought it from an authorized dealer in the UK, i would contact them and ask about the upgrade - or a return for full credit against purchase of the new model.
It's sort of like yesterday when I went to the Apple Store near me and wanted to see the new models a

Regarding ground tracking versus ground grab on the F 75 – I found the following in a post by Jim Hemingway one another forum. The DJ he referrs to is Dave Johnson at FT.
"BTW, I did write to DJ about a year ago encouraging him to incorporate autotracking on his next flagship / prospect unit, but no dice. I suppose he's never nugget hunted in really bad variable ground where the

The following is submitted at the considerable risk of flogging a dead horse --
It will be interesting to see which F-75’s will be eligible for the upgrade. Ir may very well be that there was a significant hardware change on the circuit board between the original F-75 and the SE/LE making the cost of an upgrade impractical since it would have necessitated a new circuit board. A bit more trans

You have to wonder what software version the first F-75’s ran. I only got one recently and mine was 7.something. Now we are at 9.0 and 9.1. fisher has stedily improved the F-75 over time with only the LE/SE change being a "model rev". Now they are rolling out a major upgrade and clearlyly identifying it as a software upgrade. OK, it's not as cool as XP's online upgrades f

We have engineers, plumbers, pastors, businessmen, tradesmen and all manner of folks on This forum - but you sir, are an artist. I love that display.
Since I am no artist, but a retired business person, i have to admit that right after I got over being stunned by how good it looked, I thought about how that was a great way to turn a bunch of artifacts which would be lying in a drawer or box i

When I first saw Fishers announcement of the newest version of the F-75 I have to say my first reaction was Gee whiz - what's it called? It seemed odd to me that this big a change didn't get a distinctive new model designation. After the comfusion around the introduction of the LE and SE versions and which model had which features, i thought "here they go again confusing us".

A waterproof detector which a single frequency like the F 75 would probably not be a big seller. The reason of course is that single frequency machines are very limited in their ability to cope with wet salt beaches or under salt water. It has I believe already been announced by first Texas but they are working on a new waterproof detector. I would expect this to be a development of their existi

VLF detector transmit power long ago reached its practical limits. Analog reciever and analysis likewise. Digital sIgnal sprocessing (DSP) opened a new window. Unfortunately for us enthusiasts, most good engineers who could make big strides in the application of this new technology have been making huge salaries in wireless communication and military work. Here in the US there are probably le

Lithium ion batteries are the most common rechargable lithium type batteries. As far as air travel, the web site below has the rules.
The rule for uninstalled batteries limits them to 100 watt hours capacity. For example, The Whites TDI pretty large LI battery pack is 60 watt hours (per the TDI manual).
I was surprised recently when I went to Denmark with 2 detectors, three coils, a p

European manufacturers have one very real advantage, almost everwhere (except thr UK) the majority of detectorists are new to the hobby and are on the whole younger than us enthusiasts here in North America where a lot of us are "senior" both in years of age and years detecting. The European guys are mostly on their first or second detector, whereas lots of us have a closet full of the

I have been in Denmark for about 4 weeks. My dreams of viking treasure are still dreams, but I found a really nice small pewter button - 18th century - and an 1893 Indian Head penny!!! - go figure.
Meanwhile I have consoled myself with picking many pounds of Pacific Oysters. They are considered an invasive species here and nobody wants them - except me! Oysters Rockefeller last week - Po

Any good vLF gold detector will readily detect the iron in your blood, detecting your hand out to several inches - that's normal.
If a VLF won't do that it LIKELY won't find small girl.

What's amazing about the Deus is that the power budget of the device must be amazing. To squeeze that kind of performance out of what must be a really small battery in the coil is astonishing. Remember, the coil has the whole detector in it, only the control mechanism and the read outs - VDI and sound are in the control box or headphones!
These guys are two jumps ahead of everybody exce

In a few days I'm off to Denmark for five weeks. I'm taking my Deus and figured that I'd probably sell it there since the money I have tied up in it isn't doing me any good here in AZ, where there is little of the kind of historic sites you guys on the east coast have access to.
After reading Keith's latest stuff and playing with the Deus a bit more, I suspect I will

There is a long tradition of enthusiasm about Pre-Colombian discoveries of America. I started reading this stuff in the '60’s when I was in high school. Check Barry Fell on Google or "they All Dis overhead America". Great fuN, but except for a tiny Viking presence in Newfoundland, it is all pretty much bunk.
Too bad. I wish the wonderful stories had been true. But there you g

Just saw a bit on the TV morning show about an allergy to red meat caused by the Lone Star Tick. Here's a news story about it
Here are a couple of pages from a good tick ID guide
I hate ticks. I lived in Newport News VA for a couple of years and every time I went in the woods, I'd have to do a full body tick check afterwards, and often enough found one of the little bug

Hygiene wise, 47th St. Isn't too bad - it's the diamond district after all. If you ever go to NYC, it' swell worth a visit - just to see the Dealers (mostly Hasidic Jews) doing deals on the sidewalk using their secret "finger lanuuage" to negotiate.
