Sven1,
I've been saving what I call Pertinent Posts from this and other forums for a long time and like to refer back to them as occasion permits. A good idea that works for me.

I met Monty decades ago. Monte was always going out of his way to help others interested in detecting and still is. I appreciate him and others like him.
For anybody bagging on Monte and his detector selection for the places he hunts, (he's typically starting with a Nokta Fors CoRe or Relic) come join him and have a go with your favorite detector and see how long you last hunting thes

Calabash,
I'm thinking you're missing some Nevada Territory Saloon Tokens, an Oregon or California gold coin, a baggage tag or padlock from the Old railroad and a Phoenix button. Maybe a cache of Seated dollars. Other than those, it looked right nice.
So are you going to join us out in Nevada?

Calabash,
What you should do is join us in Nevada in June, and bring TNSS with you. Bunch of us get together in Northern Nevada for 3-4 days, swinging all sorts

I think this thread must've pushed Monte OVER THE EDGE ! I found a response on YouTube ! I thought I'd never see it.
All kidding aside, there is actually a little wisdom in this thread.
I agree that a guys gotta get out there and figure out and experience things for himself. You don't become expert from the living room or having somebody else direct your every move.

A few weeks ago, while using my iPhone to access the forum, there was a new format. But only when using my iPhone. Things appeared normal with an iPad and desktop computers.
It lasted about a week and then went away all by itself. If I did something to cause or correct it, I wouldn't know what it was.
I still cannot LOG IN to the forum using my iPhone. It faults indicating either

Hey there Mike,
I've never used the Compadre, but I picked up a Mojave when they first came out. I like it. Pleasant to use. The ground balance toggle is handy where I live. I made a post over in Findmall almost two years ago that others added to. Maybe it will fill in a little bit more of the picture for you.
Hope that helps.

Tex,
If the detector was easy to use and a Performing Detector, it wasn't boring at all. Quite the opposite. Those performing detectors are the ones that opened up the world. They make the trip afield an adventure.

Thanks Awesome Calabash. Congrats.
Last year, my buddy finally replaced his stolen metal detector with a used Whites VX3. We planned a little trip out to some old places in Nevada with a few friends. My buddy had done some quick air checks at home to make sure it was running right but hadn't put the coil over the soil till we arrived onsite. First coin he finds, an 1857 Flying Eagle Cent

Mojave is a pleasure to use - Turn on and go ease with some excellent performance.
I also have an original Silver Saber, Golden Sabre, Bandido and Bandido 2 µMax. Sold my Golden µMax last year. Back in the day I also used the old Eldorado, a Toltec 100 and a Silver Sabre µMax. Wish I still had that Silver Sabre µMax.

Way back when, I started with an old Vibra Probe, followed by a SunRay X-1 with my Explorer XS and Etrac, changed to a Pistol Probe to lighten my FBS detector after a shoulder injury and have been using a Garrett Pro Pointer AT (carrot) for the last few years. Likeable, no troubles with it. Battery seems to last forever. I like the size / weight of the Garrett Carrot and the functionality of my

Very Impressive for a first find George.
My detecting buddy bought himself a VX3 a few months ago and took it to an old railroad town for the maiden voyage. No Backyard practice. Just a cold start with a new machine. His first coin find - 1857 Flying Eagle Cent.
Some of you guys just have a 'lucky' hand at these things. I have to tip my hat to you.

Nope, Too close for me. Out West we don't have the copperheads and cottonmouths. Just rattlesnakes and they usually give you a back off shake of the tail.
Last year at one of Monte's Nevada gatherings we came across a few rattlesnakes. I watched a very thick 6-7' rattler duck through the sage brush and building rubble near the foundations of an old school and head down a large

Tom,
As you prepare for a site by 'emi' testing, are you assuming that audible EMI is more detrimental to detector performance than 'silent' EMI, or have you already proven this to yourself and are thus able to skip the step of testing all available channels for best performance and then 'dealing' with any nuisance noise that may be present?
