Hi Bob,,,,It sounds and acts like you have a broken shield wire on the cable itself ....It would probably be the end that takes the most bending....You would have to cut the cable and redo it, you can't visibly see an internal break on the cable itself.....JJ
Edit: added an s to sound....LoL....

Hi,,,,You got one option, if he really wants the ring back, you will have to pull the cable back out....It would be very hard to hear the ring if the cable is coming in around the 90's....The unknown factor of what the ring ID's at makes it even more difficult....What would the ring and cable ID at when they are combined??( unknown)?? Have him pull up a little cable at a time while you

Hi Wayne,,,,,,,Congratulations on your score.....Boy are you ever correct on your assumption of the locations and the Internet theory....The best places will not be found on the web because odds are Billy Blow & Silly Sally have hit them already..... It takes diligent conscientiousness overdrive research to hit a possible virgin site anymore.....Even after all your research you still have to

Hi,,,,Yep something is not right here..........."I had little hope it was worth anything until I took it to a pawn shop. They immediately told me to take it to a university".....LoL.....I have found picture lockets before and the pictures inside them were dust/toast.....Yet these have been in a flood and don't even show signs of water damage....LoL....The Preservation Gods were wor

Hi,,,I'm kinda curious what metal detector you are using???? The nulling could be from iron or some other mineral deposits in relationship to your ground balance setting or settings of the machine itself....Especially if you are using a ferrous & nonferrous TR or BFO detector .... If you are not certain that your time capsule contained any metal, then your best option is a probe to loca

Hi,,,,I rarely dig a screw cap and if I do it's usually a deeper older wine bottle cap....The 3D has excellent modulated audio that you can use to your advantage.....Focus on digging only narrower deeper weaker sounding targets.....The older coins you seek should be deeper than the screw caps or at least they are around here....This also includes pull tabs etc......Good luck......JJ

Hi TSS,,,The left side indicates a ferrous target. The right side indicates a non ferrous/good target. The less shading there is means it's deeper.....Perhaps the middle means pinpoint mode..........JJ

Hi TSS,,,,It could go either way but to be on the safe side and to prevent a possible coil meltdown use it sparingly....I also recommend wearing safety goggles when it is invoked................JJ

Hi TSS,,,,I was not even talking about you or your comments so I edited my last statement....Now you see what I mean about being confrontational not educational on here....I have to defend myself all the time on here.....I probably forgot more than most people know....I think I will just kick back and just grin a little while reading miscellaneous collaborations about metal detecting and the one

Hi,,,Wayne & Wayne, thanks for your reply...I have been designing a new metal detector to handle and meet my needs around here....I'm also working on designing headphones to meet my needs.. I hope to wrap these projects up in less than two weeks from now .....I tend to also limit posting anywhere anymore because it gets to confrontational when I do....There's to many Chiefs and not

Hi,,,,Yes & double yes I can't seem to follow directions/instructions so please let me elaborate on this very controversial subject....If you listen to the experts they say no to coins etc. but say yes to iron....I really think these armchair experts need to get out more and do some serious detecting then formulate an accurate opinion....The expert opinions with a no answer that I have r

Hi,,,,I think you would be dead if you had that much iron/minerals in your body/blood that a detector is picking it up....If you ate about a dozen monkey wrenches or had the worst case of Hemochromatosis in the world then maybe just maybe the detector may pick up a signal....I think what you are witnessing is your hand & body is acting like a capacitor and changing the capacitance/inductance

Hi,,,Not only does this machine show very, very poor ergonomics and non functional fold up capabilities, it shows no characteristics of a typical Garrett machine....I noticed also the depth being displayed in metric....No way is this for real, it is however very laughable.....JJ

Hi Tom,,,,Thanks for sharing the facts of your collected data....It is now up to the reader to interrupt this info and possibly put it to work for themselves.....I'm almost willing to bet that after 44 years of detecting the bulk of your Injun's were found in the last 10 years or so....Did you also find out that the condition of your Injun's changed the conductivity of them??....Th

Hi Pimento,,,I hear ya on the ID span that's why I said...."Keep in mind that some machines have better ID capabilities than others".....I kinda laugh and don't answer a lot of stuff because it usually gets debated, challenged or ignored....On the other hand I don't want to come off as a know it all neither but sometimes I feel somewhat obligated to reply ....I do see some

Hi,,,,There's actually a lot more information to add to the above answer but I certainly don't want to get into it all....Orientation & proximity of an object/coin to the surface will also skew ID numbers somewhat.....But I think you now have enough basic information to satisfy your need to succeed.....JJ

Hi,,,An air test of objects would give you a Perfect World deviation/variance of the ID numbers an object displays... But when you add moisture,dirt/mineralization,co-located objects etc. to the equation the detectors will sum up what is being seen by/under the coil at any given time....The machine can only report/ID the combination of all these variables, density/mass of an object affects the ou

Hi,,,,I think this is a test to see how people will react to sticker shock....It would be hard to put a price on something that sounds like a dream so far.....Why 15 machines just build one and get it right the first time....The good news is they are talking/hinting about using dual frequency Fourier Domain signal analysis....This should or could utilize the same characteristics as the CZ's.

Hi,,,I figured someone would dispute what I wrote..LoL...I just tried to keep the answer simple and explained it in layman's terms....Of course there is a ton of variables in the equation....Why cloud someones mind with an overindulgence of facts and theories that only serves to confuse them more.....The premise is the same while keeping the answer simple for all to understand....If a coin e

Hi,,,,Detectors properly built for gold etc. are built to be close to the objects/elements resonant frequency that it was designed for....Supposedly all elements on earth have/emit what is called a natural frequency......Higher frequency machines can see smaller items because the waveform is smaller than a lower frequency machine....A 18kHz machine is sending out 18000 cycles per second Vs a 7kHz

Hi,,,,I hear ya on vintage coins....I guess I'm not clear on your 99% location theory....I could say the key is 100% location when detecting cause if you don't have a place to go you are out of luck....I could take you to a location that everyone says is no good and all worked out and if you don't have the skills necessary to pull the coins out of this place under very adverse cond
