THANKS Wally!!! We gotta stop the hemorrhaging death-spiral rapid loss of folks/posters on this forum! And I know there are folks that would/could be willing to help.......... should the need arise.

Yes. Each time I make a post. . . . I get the fatal error message. Then........ I have to completely log-off the forum. , . , . , . , and start all over.

Steve.......... those are a lot of valid points. Yes........ I would venture to guess........... if there are recent/more updates that are specific to Phorum software......... it may help a bunch. Maybe not everything; yet, a formidable gain/improvement. Let's just hope Wally has the time to read this thread. I know he's busy.
In the meantime...... our posts are still being 'dou

Steve......... agree.
Also = Wally just finished fixing a few bugs on this forum. So I'm 'testing' if I still get a failure message ....when I post something. Here goes!

I talked to Wally (Web-Master) last night. He thinks he'll have the time to look into the multitude of forum problems........ probably tonight.

I remember about 2-Decades ago........... I believe it was around 2006.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., I was actively (heavily) experimenting with a Tek T2 (possibly Proto)........... in thick carpets of iron. Almost all nails/iron would ID in (about) the middle of the Iron ID range/bandwidth. BUT......... if there was a non-ferrous target in close locate (co-locate) to a piece of iron (usually a nail)........

Steve........... for the past 3-weeks...... I have been trying to destroy your lower (extended length) tall-man's rod...... in the ocean. Hydrodynamic drag can genuinely 'load down' all of the components on the business-end of the Manticore (or any detector). I do not feel that I have encroached 10% of its handling/load-bearing capabilities. Rock solid.

Hmmmmmmmm. I'm just thinking. The Tarsacci may be the better choice...... just incase the island is of volcanic ash/rock. If so...... Black Sand = "ON" may end up being your best bet.

And....... the irony of the post being on a thread that is pleading for forum/resurrection/resuscitation/CPR!!!!!!

I'm uncertain if 'cost' is a primary factor. I (somewhat) feel it's a 'time' issue.
Let's see if Wally sees this..... and responds.
Yes....... I agree,.,.,., this site needs multiple changes.

I am overdue to give Dimitar a call. Yes....... he (and small crew) absolutely has new concepts/stuff. But........ is it enough for them to feel it is a big enough 'change'..... to quantify/justify a = release.
Agree with the need for better ID. But........... two things =
1. Even just a 10% increase in ID accuracy....... over the existing platform......... would be a formidable gai

David....... this is (extremely) high-conductor wrap-around effect. . . . . . and is accentuated with the elliptical EM footprint design of the coil.
You should try this with a 1-Oz .9999 Silver Round!!! (Sometimes called: Silver Eagle).

It is not uncommon that..................... once you find a unsuspecting/hidden talent & attribute of a unit.,.,.,.,., THAT'S where the splitting-of-hairs ...really starts to count. Then............. the next thought is: Will this work for MOST detectorists. If so......... then can we create a factory preset (or Mode) to accommodate?
The incremental steps of technological advancement!

Interesting with the Manticore....... without any special programming........ will ID the Nickel quite a bit higher in conductivity than the Deus-2..... with the special Birddog custom programming. Even though the Manticore is giving a much better (yet; still not exact) ID.,.,.,.,.,., I do feel (with all of the special programming)...... the Deus-2 is still formidable.

David......... this goes back to Teknetics T-2......then the extremely lengthy F75 thread; whereby, masked non-ferrous targets will still read/ID in the iron range; yet, in a totally different iron range than most normal solo iron.
VERY good use (capture) of the available tools of the Deus-2!

David......... let me (us) know how this works out in the real-World. Yes....... you'll probably dig some nails that ID in the 1, 2 or 3 ID range. BUT....... I bet there will be some clues to these specific nails............VS.............a non-ferrous target that is in co-locate (masked) by nail(s)....that ALSO ID in the 1, 2 or 3 ID range.

No matter how good ID is........ when ID becomes completely ineffective in bad dirt. , . , . , . , . , . , we are back at ground-zero. (VLF/SMF can be rendered useless).
The Tarsacci is the First Generation (first genuine attempt) at working in bad dirt.....to be able to have some form of ID. Albeit crude; yet, functional.
(((Working on 2nd Gen)))
I wonder how Keith S. is progressing with

Chris........ yes. It is a 'trade-off' ...in order to gain superior performance in low target areas..........VS..........carpets of nails performance.
BUT......... this brings up another thought. Why must we humans have BURNED....permanently into our brains AND 'accept': The entire concept/premise of: "trade-off". --- ""In order to 'gain this

Chris ..... that is EXACTLY the kind of data we need!.....and is most (engineering) helpful.
I find the Tarsacci to do quite well in carpets of nails........ BUT........ if I added fairly heavy mineralization.,.,.,.,.,. the equation/resultant would change!
Just curious........ have you tried Salt Mode with....... and without........ Black sand?

Really good report Chris! I love hearing your 'take' on the performance of the unit.
Yes....... I too......would really like to see how the Tarsacci handles your dirt conditions......and how you would run it.
I would categorize your mineralization level as 'middle of the "HIGH" ' range of the mineralization scale. (((Due to SMF struggling to ID a 6" deep coin)

If you are in M1, M2 or M3....... you will find coins.
If you are in 4-KHz ... you will find the following coins that M1, M2 & M3 missed:
1. Deeper coins......and with better ID
2. Coins that are (up to) medium masked by foil

gts......... noted. WELL noted!
phil....... I thought you wanted me to compare the Manticore M8 coil.....to the Manticore M11 coil. So I did!
But................ as far as inland/turf detecting.,.,.,.,., the Tarsacci w/12" coil......................VS...................... Manticore with 11" coil.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., the Manticore is (barely) the winner in depth......,,,,,,,,........,,

This is a topic that I usually give training on.
Here in Florida..... I look for medium gray, light gray....... or bone-white sandy soil. All 3 types of these soils .... are very dense ..... and exceptionally inorganic. Where grass is having a hard time growing....... the sink-rate is minimal. Not much foliage to present one of the primary causes of 'sink-rate'.
