I expect NM intends to not only impress the serious detectorist, but also surprise the competition. I'm hoping they will introduce a real breakthrough in actual performance in the field. Something like mitigating EMI or target resolution at depth. I think we will see something more than current Flagship SMF technology at a lower price point. We will know before much longer by their indicatio

Either I am not very good at following the format of the Posts or I'm just confused. I don't see any remarks made by the original poster. The second one, yes.

Thank you for the insightful replies. Your comment on Carpet of nails surprised me some as to being so definite. I may not understand the term properly. One of the good targets I dug was in the densest nail spot I have. It was a Brass curtain rod ring at 9". A solid medium soft tone in Disc +29. If you listen to the Iron it almost constant. I have only been able to dig shallow items in this

As long as the nails/small Iron trash are not right at surface to a few inches, swamping the coil, I have always done well with a stock or even larger size coil that separates well. I probably should remember to just raise the coil at times but I'm a invertebrate scrubber.

So far, I only have about 20 hours on my MDT 8000. Probably 15 of those in the field on hard hunted Iron sites; 2 with high minerals, 1 with fairly low. I have dug 6 good targets I feel certain my other detectors had missed multiple times. All 4 were 7-10" deep with plenty of Iron above & around them. This is exactly what I had hoped for as far as capability. Looking forward to getting m

I have found experimenting, particularly On Site, pays a good dividend. If it was all easier it probably wouldn't be as interesting. I still want to find good stuff though!

Tom, Do you ever engage Black Sand to try to mitigate some EMI? It may be a false sense of improvement if Silent EMI is still effecting performance, but it does seem to help with the audible EMI. It also seemed to help with ground noise the one time I have hunted after a rain on a Red dirt site that will cover a pocket magnet with Iron fuzz when you rub it in the dry dirt.

I spent about 2 hours yesterday evening on one of my private, Low Mineral(1 Bar on Anfibio & F5) sandy sites that has been hunted several dozen times & has gotten very stingy. Used NASA Tom's recommended settings; 6.4kHz GB 750 SB 48. Ran Disc mode -20. TH-2 Sens 8, 12" coil. The machine ran smooth even in the heavier nail areas. I am still going slow on the little falses, but c

Thank you for the explanation. I will try that on my site this evening & experiment further. I assume on higher mineralized ground it is best to Ground Balance to the actual soil. Maybe possible to shift the GB to some extent to get the desired Iron de-sensitization and still remain stable in relation to the minerals?

I know it would be site specific but can you give some detail on the method behind the madness? Some general guidelines to mitigate the Iron, Foil?

Thank you for the detailed description of finding that Penny. I am still very early in the MDT learning experience. Were the GB & SB settings you were using set to the site's natural requirements or had you adjusted to compensate for Iron/trash or other intended performance adjustment? I am to the point in my self education of trying to decide whether to set up for the natural ground con

I have been using the rechargeable Energizers AA's with satisfaction for the last 2+ years. Have also used the Eneloop Pros for almost a year now. Also very satisfactory. I am getting ready to order a kit from Tenergy that has 8 AAs & AC/12VDC charger for extras around the house.

I received my unit w/ 12" coil last week. I have a few hours on it now getting familiar with it. I can see it is going to be very useful on my difficult Iron ore/ Red dirt housesites that have been thinned out by the Anfibio Multi & Vista X. I am having a lot of fun learning with it despite the oppressive humidity & heat.

This thread is what prompted me to join this fine forum after being only a guest viewer the last 3+ years. I have learned more real world practical knowledge from the member posts here than I would have ever learned on my own. Thank you to all.
