Keith, I agree with everything you are saying. I have trouble with tones. I can't carry a tune in bucket. I need wide separation on tones to help me hear them. The XP GMP was close but I worked it out by taking a target with me and testing it for a few minutes prior to hunting.......

The coil ( wires) is critical as to the position. The location of the electronics and battery will be also as to not interfere with the coil signal

I think if XP would make a small coil, they could put the battery and transmitter/receiver in a small box, snap it onto the shaft then it would be easy for them to make a 5" coil. Also if all their coils were made this way, once you had the power and communications box, it could be used for all their coils and reduce the price. The added weight with the small coil would also help balance the

What does a battery level do to the performance of a detector. To me it seems that the type or quantity of batteries also reflects on how the detector performs. 9 volt batteries seem to give a little better punch but falls off quicker. I am obsessed with my battery level. If it drops a couple of bars, i replace it.... What are your thoughts ?

I agree also. If you get the CTX, Keep it till you learn all the features and setting, You will have it for a long time. It is a very versatile machine with lots to offer.

I have seen a couple sold on Pawn Stars. I always wanted one but they were a little out of my price range. Fantastic story. I wonder if the serial number could be traced in any way...

Anyone who would like to give this unit a try, let me know. I have a new, never used detector for sale. $350 shipped to the lower 48 states .
I put it together and played with it inside but it has never seen dirt.
Shipped double boxed, USPS Priority mail with tracking number. I will include the receipt of purchase from Backwoods Detectors.
Weather has been too bad to get out to try it out

My thoughts are that Fisher is a lot larger company. It would take a lot of money even to make small changes to a detector that was already in production. Smaller companys can do it for a lot less investment.
Fisher is doing Ok, and they will be around for a long time. I like that I can call and actually speak to a tech guy. All they need to do is get their quality control to a level higher than

When you are addicted to something, it is hard to give it up, even for a short time...lol
If the Racer is even close, I will be glad to let you use the Fors and try it out.

If you take the Fors Core to a park, dig only the numbers 84 and up, you will find plenty of coins....and deep with rock solid numbers. I wished you had one for just one day to try. And on a park you have hunted with the Etrac and CTX.
I was pulling old coins out of a dead park that I thought would only have modern stuff left.

I see lots of post asking about detectors. What is the depth, can it work well in iron. Air Test? Is it heavy? And on and on.....
My question is simple. " What is the detector that you had the most fun with?"
For me it was a couple of detectors.... Tesoro Tejon or the Troy Shadow X5 ( a lot alike)
Why?
Well I did not have to over think what it was telling me. No display t

If you are cherry picking a site for coins with the Fors, Dig everything between 84 and 95. You will find plenty and very little trash. I have a park filled with trash and I would dig very little junk. Screw caps seemed to always hit on 83.
I have dug a ton of screw caps with the CZ units. always read as a good target. The CZ's just love anything that is round.

The older Fors Core will loose a lot of value when the upgraded one comes out. But this is a unit that will be around for some time. It is too good it trash and fantastic depth. I just received the Makro CF77. Weather is too bad to get out and try it. From initial test, I think it will be a keeper also. I think there may be a lot of "reverse engineering" when the Racer hits our shore
