Quick on/off pointer?

Can anyone tell me what's the quickest one handed, switch on/off pointer available? cheers

Detector pro Pistol Probe.

Pro pointer 2 is quick. In fact a quick off/on is fast enough to be nearly as single button drune of pro pointer at.

The original Pro Pointer has the instant on/off button. Never used the Pro Pointer II, but I think it does too.

2x on this.

Press and HOLD button in, IT IS ON, release button to set it down, it is off. Downside is that it is a little bigger than most of the others, but it has very good depth.

Overall, the Pro Pointer AT is an improvement over Garrett's 1st generation pinpointers. But I do miss the faster on/off of the original.

The Pistol Probe is fast too, but you have to hold the button down firmly the whole time you use it or it turns off.

For me the quickest pinpointer i use is the Sunray DX-1 inline probe on my DFX,just by flicking a switch it will then start up the probe which you can hear real time through your headphones, its basically like using a 1'' coil on your detector.Of course the down side is that they are tethered to that specific machine, mine works on the DFX,MXT,M6 and possible a few others.

Apart from that i also use the BullsEye 11 which is a good probe, but for everyday use its the Garrett, but that is not what i call a quick turn on probe like you are after.
Re: Quick on/off pointer?

The Vibra Probe 580 Pinpointer has a very quick action which 'does not' use switches but just by tilting the probe it switches itself on and off after a time duration, possibly working on a mercury tilt switch, possible the quickest switch on probe going and pretty deep as well.

lol i don't know, when i get the ' this is an exciting signal' maybe the anticipation of it coupled with needing to wait on my slow ass pointer coming to life is just too much, and finding gold last week has not helped!

Garrett Propointer 2
Re: Quick on/off pointer?
September 07, 2016 07:57PM
I own the original black Garrett and the Minelab. I can draw the Garrett, turn it on without looking, and it's immediately ready to probe the hole. The Minelab is much slower to power up and is so unergonomic that I have to orient it in hand visually to find the button with my thumb.

That's the same problem i had with the minelab Bayard, and the Makro one i have now is equally as awkward with it's on/off button on the arse of the probe, and both take too long to start up.
We have quick ass detectors and slow ass pointers lol

Question for anyone who has used Garrett's original Pro Pointer and the Pro Pointer 2.

Does the 2 have greater sensitivity than the original as Garrett claims?

No not really. Just no falsing and better button. Also has an alarm. On/off is faster though. Carrot is little deeper on max sens.
Re: Quick on/off pointer?

Thanks for sharing that, MO.

The extra depth of the Carrot makes it trump the original for me even though I do prefer the original's instant on/off and the black color.

I know the color orange makes sense for finding when lost, but since the last time I lost or left behind a Pro Pointer would have been 2008 or 2009, that's really no advantage for me.

No need to discuss pinpointers anyway since next to the Bullseye II they are all just fashion items.

I'm thinking about wearing the AT next time I go to a wedding so everyone will notice how debonair and stylish I look with it hanging from my belt...grinning smiley

I'd agree with John, but for the original Bullseye as I've not used the ll.
Just don't get them wet as they will crap out after a while...
But if it's On/Off [ no fuss] operation then it's one of the originals and best...
Just MHO

The original Garrett pinpointer. I have it and the carrot and the carrot is aggravating because you have to hold it momentarily to turn it off, not so with the original.
The minelab was the most aggravating becaose it has a pause in between time you turn it on and the time it's "ready" for use.

Des I wish they had put the BE II in to the TRX Housing, Being waterproof it would have been great for sniping Gold in streams etc because of the high frequency, where as the others are all around 12 kHz, The BE II can see flat Bits that weigh 0.03 grams so that is not too bad for the price compared to over 230.00 Euros for the Falcon MD-20 albeit a PI pin pointer but because of their sensitivity you have to treat them with kid gloves.

Pin Pointers are one area of the hobby that seems to get neglected, With so many prospectors in the world I would have thought a 50 kHz model would have sold like wildfire,

John.

That's true Fletch. Garrett improved the Pro Pointer in general with the AT, but the turn off delay was a step back compared to the instant on/off of the original.

Been a while since I used it, but if I remember correctly Whites TRX had an even longer turn off delay.

Fletch, I know exactly where your coming from, they are a bit like laptops and cell phones take a week to wake up and a week to go to sleep,

Pin Pointers have a simple task so there is no need to over complicate things,
