Most of the gold rings I have found have been in the conductivity range below nickel. Have found way more woman's gold rings then men's though and they are usually small thin rings.

I believe it depends on the areas you hunt. On sand bars frequented by boaters it has been nearly 100% Men's bands and above the nickel range. Public beaches and campgrounds can are a different story and I can't say whether one conductivity range predominates.

Good answer. In my area, we have noticed that Surfer beaches have a higher percentage of men's rings. Because go figure, that is a sport/hobby that is mostly male-dominated. And they are always tumbling in the surface Zone prone to lose a ring. And men's rings generally read above nickel.

Just a fact of life most gold rings lost are thin womans rings thus under normal circumstances answer would be the aforementioned and fall in foil range..

This could change of course in an area frequented by male activities and such.

I dig a deep gold ring that came in as an Indian head on my F75. Was at an old park, next to a giant tree and thought for sure it was going to be an IHP, imagine my surprise when I dug a 24K gold mans signet ring thumbs down

I do believe many more rings are lower, but most hunters pay more attention to higher conductive signals and fail to dig many of the gold rings they pass over thinking they are trash.

Of course, it’s not just conductivity that’s in play here, also shape and thickness influence current flow and therefore detection.

The handful of gold ones I've found has been below..

That may be because of my relic hunter mentality though....Might just of been the scrappy one's that were left..the other guys got the Honkers..Left me me some bottom feeder scraps.LOL

Only have a couple of honkers that read up the scale..Airforce ring and mans diamond superbowl type ..Rest are smaller thin types ..

Have alot of wedding bands from 1800s that read higher but they're really brass that was plated if that.

I dirt fish and most of the gold rings that I find are at or above the conductivity of a nickel. I read somewhere that most of the gold rings lost are below the conductivity of a nickel and in the foil range. Maybe they're just harder to find. BTW, ever since I stopped swinging a Tesoro full time my ring count has gone down big time.

Really it all boils down to the ring, how much does it weigh, karats, shape, size, etc. Big chunky 14K mens ring will ring up higher then a nickle, a tinsey ladies ring could read just above iron. Unfortunately there's no magic formula for IDing gold, about the closest I've seen anyone be able to get to IDing gold in the ground was on a White's V3i and it's analysis graphs, it could certainly tell a pull-tab or crown cap from a "good" target, but it couldn't tell you if it was going to be gold or whatnot.

By a large amount...… the bulk of my rings have been below the Nickel ID range.

hit an 8.3g 14k rose gold ring that hit as a strong zinc-like signal, then decided to check back a few feet to a foil juice top signal that I passed on (I don't dig those) and wow it was a 14k white gold women's ring (4.3g) (same size as the other) with 3 diamonds, .8 carat (or there-a-bouts) and 2 .33 carat, yowza. these were near some trash cans (big plastic ones).

pure luck as I usually shy away from the trash cans due to so much aluminum near them.

I generally dig nickel and above (so that's where my men's gold rings come from) though I have dug a few women's gold fashion ring's a little under that if I'm in the mood and the sound is a little better (and dependent on location).

cheers

Remember when men's comfort fit rings got popular... man was that fun summers out in the lakes! Heavy rings with beveled edges, cold water and sun tan lotion. The perfect storm!

Any accidental gold I have found hits right at nickel because I usually have everything just below or above disc'd out for coin shooting.

I going to widen my nickel slot acceptance downward on my CTX's Trashy Park Program to a point where foil caps are just rejected and do something like that with my Deus using 4 audio tones. Ever since I stopped using a Tesoro detector as my primary detector my gold ring finds have plummeted big time.

Curious why then you quit using your Tesoro?

My right knee is giving out on me and also I'm starting to grunt a lot getting up and down, so I can't dig as much as I used to. Cherry picking for silver coins is a cake walk compared to detecting for gold rings.

While it's true that some machines (various tesoros, for example) favor mid & low conductors: It still seems that all anyone needs to do, is simply lower the discrimination knob of ANY machine (even the power house machines fabled for high-conductors at depth), and still not lack for ability to find gold rings.

For example: The explorer and 6000 Di pro were/are excellent machines for sniffing out silver at depth from junky parks, eh ? But if I open them up to accept low conductors, and go out to any inner city park turf, I can be guaranteed the ability to fill my apron with low conductors. Thus it hardly seems that a machine "better at low conductors" is necessary to pull low conductors from parks.

The exception to this is if we were talking thin chains, earring studs, small stick-pins, or very small wire rings. Then yes: The power house machines are weak on those.

Most in the foil range but I have found some in the zinc penny range which are honkers like class rings.

My gold ring count while searching trashy parks went way down also since I stopped using Tesoro detectors full time. I used to find 8 to 10 a year bit now lucky to find 1. I found myself with the TID machines only digging in the nickel and coin ranges. Didn't matter where I set the disc which is mostly at the very minumum. When I was out with my tesoros I would dig anything that would come in solid as I dialed the disc knob past and back on the target. Anything that would break up as I was thumbing was trash etc. The ease of controlling the disc was key where as all TID machines I own you can't control it on the fly with ease. TID machines do make it easy to just walk past a lot of targets instead of really investigating them. Think Tabman and I are going to have a good old fashion beep and dig day soon where I get a signal and tell him what it is and he digs it for me.lol

Yep, that's the truth, thumbing really does work on Tesoro detectors. You can lay out on the ground 10 gold rings and 10 other targets like pull tabs and can slaw that give the same ID numbers on TID detectors, cover them all up with some cardboard and a Tesoro detector will be able to tell 80%+ of the time which targets under the cardboard are trash and which ones are gold rings. I don't know of a TID detector that can that.

I hear you on the knees, getting cortisone shots myself, but still my knees slow me down.
