Will start with this video to let you know about Berkut 5.
This is one of the newest by AKA and is worthy to see and discuss to my mind.

Sven, what kind of success are you having? The ground is like cement here, haven't hunted in a while.

Been getting out now and then, hectic month, moving a few miles away, so its been a packing fun time.
Plus we have to do some renovating in this place before the movers arrive. It's Rockstar Energy drink and
cupcake time to get things done.

If you read my posting on Findmall, you'll get a clue how I made out the first few times out.
The Berkut gets comparable depth to Minelabs E-trac and Explorer. Maybe better, haven't run it full bore yet.
Did not have the need to yet.

Best VLF machine I have ever used, so for my hunting style and conditions it works excellent. I have 14khz coils,
the UK guys like the 7khz coils for better depth, hotter on silver. Thinking about getting a 7khz coil and finding out.

Just a question.

The screen on this machine. I noticed its split into 2.

Bad targets come out on the left side and good targets on the
Right. I noticed the pull tab comes out at around the the 11 ocklock
Position maybe closer to the 12 on a clock.

My question is this. Are all pull tabs appearing on the left of screen
And do all the rings fall on the right of screen?
Re: Berkut 5 by AKA not alike other detectors.

The screen is split one side is basically iron, the other high conductive targets.
The Halograph is an estimation of what the target maybe.
Gold runs a line up to the right hand corner, silver runs a line almost level to the bottom right hand corner.
Coin size targets are a straight line or abouts. And can change depending upon any other targets next to the coin.

I listen to the tones, anything above a low tone, I will dig. If I get a sqweek of a high tone amongst some low tones, will
try and separate it out. In that case I look at the ID numbers to verify. If it bounces from negative numbers to a high repeatably
will investigate. The Halograph can help, it will somewhat indicate and draw out two targets. There is also a bar graph that runs up the right hand size.
It can be used as a size/depth indicator. There are a number of ways to help in ID a target. Just don't rely on the Halograph 100%, its just an aid.
Some say its a gimmick but, it does help. Probably works much better in open areas with not a lot of co-mingled trash.

I determine a target by tone first.
Then by ID numbers
Still learning the Halograph
Then maybe look at the bar graph, more so now that I know what it does.
VCO pinpointing helps determine depth and size as well.

What's really a challenge is Canadian clad coins on any ID machine, found that if I get a neg number in the 50 to 70 and a similar quick positive number
means dig. These can be the clad on edge.

The biggest thing I noticed with the Berkut, not much of any EMI has bothered it..... so far.

Ground balancing is a piece of cake, press the button and drop the coil and set. Or you can go full manual GB.

It's a very interesting detector...................

If your asking about the AKA detectors, Igor (Russia) has some English faceplate Berkuts up on ebay, different coil combos. And Mikron (Bulgaria) has the AKA Sorex on ebay.

Some clarification. The graphical representation of targets is called Hodograph not Halograph.

Right side vertical bar is signal strength/depth indicator. Left side vertical bar is sizing.

I've got the Sorex Pro 7khz 9x12 and 6x10. Very deep and sensitive machine.
Re: Berkut 5 by AKA not alike other detectors.
August 21, 2014 05:23PM
LOL, I keep thinking Star Trek and Hodograph just reminds me of a Train Track with a bunch of Hobos near by.

Berkut only has right side bar.

Having the Sorex, both of your coils are 7khz. What difference are you finding between the two sizes?
My 6x10 is 14khz, was hoping to try the 6x10 7khz but, Igor only has the 9x12.
I was understanding the 7khz lets you run hotter because its less effected by EMI, get better depth on silver, copper targets?

I got the 7hz 6x10 mainly for old parks and schoolyards littered with non ferrous trash. Not surprisingly it picks up higher conductors in heavy non ferrous trash much better and can run a bit hotter than the 12x9. I can't really vouch for depth yet as the ground here is extremely dry. The 18khz 6 in will be my next purchase for cellar holes and iron infested sites.

I have the 14khz 6" coil and will say it's excellent. It goes deeper than you would expect a 6" to go. I clearly hit a penny at 7"
I actually like using it more than the 6x10 for schools, parks where there's trash. The 6" is worth getting. The Berkut feels so much lighter
than a Tesoro, sure your finding that out with the Sorex.

Happy Hunting

The last pattern of Berkut 5 has 2 languages in the menu now-English and Russian.Faceplates are fully English.
Re: Berkut 5 by AKA not alike other detectors.
November 08, 2014 08:06PM
I have the Russian faceplate with the menu in 2 languages.
New Berkut has the English faceplate with the menu in 2 languages.
Biggest difference, if you rest the machine to factory presets, the older language defaults to Russian, new
Berkut defaults to English. So with mine, you have to know where to go to change the language back to English.
Reset a couple times, you'll know for the next time.......

I am not sure if I can advertise here too much.I will say only, that it is very beneficial to make deals with AKA because of the rate between our currencies. The rouble is very low now and AKA still didn't raise their costs.

I think Keith may like this I sure do....Manufactured in Russia, all our innovative detectors are loaded with AKA patented technologies. Allowing you to switch frequencies ranging from 1 to 30kHz, they come with telescopic shafts. They are completely different from other machines as they work in both discrimination and all metal modes at the same time. It allows better depth and metal identification than any other detector on the market. For more than 20 years, AKA has been the most popular brand in Russia and eastern countries. However due to export restrictions, AKA detectors have never been sold outside this area although it’s been a pioneer in many fields. In 2014, AKA has launched several new machines and reached agreement with dealers all over the world. Do not hesitate do check our bulletin board or Facebook page to know more about our products or ask for detecting tips.

You show here not the stock shaft, but just an optional, which is called horizontally oriented and should say, that it costs more, than the stock one separately. There is also vertically oriented. The stock rod is S-type,very light, stable and comfortable for using.
