Excellent research book
August 12, 2015 11:56PM
After moving here (northern Cal.) about two years ago, I realized I needed some new research material. Looking through my own library, I came across this map book of a part of the Mother lode area. It shows maps of the 1880's and the 1980's. It shows where the old mines, camps, trading posts, stage stops, etc, used to be. A lot of fresh sites to hunt. If any of you guys hunt these area, you might want to pick up one of these books. Just a thought.

I am in Chico, Seems like a nice town to live in. It could use a couple of really nice detector shops with knowledgeable people running them. (boy, there's a pipe dream)

GB, when you get your copy, if you would, look at pg. 2 and it will tell you what numbered copy you have, I would be very interested. Thanks. Jeff

As far as I can tell there never was a second published copy. And I looked pretty hard for it. I also think they did not do a full publication of 500 copies for the #1 book. But I may be wrong. When I first started my detecting hobby in 1967 I was living in Fair Oaks, Ca. It was a great jump-off place to anywhere old and historic. For the first five years of my hobby, I had the best of the best places to hunt. (for me)

It all depends on which site you are interested in. This book has 40 different map sheets to cover the area shown. If you look at my original post, the pic of the cover of this book shows the state of Cal. The darkened area is what is covered in this book. It amazes me how clear and detailed the maps are.

I haven't been back to Fair Oaks in over 40 years. Am I in for a shock?
