To all,
I am STILL try to get this to work. I believe that the MAIN issue with the site is the Web Server itself. I have used the same Site Server Provider since 2008, maybe it is time to change servers. I have a trouble ticket in, maybe the server can check, change or fix the server. I am sorry I have not had a lot of time to deal with the site, I have a lot of stuff going on. I will wor

All,
I'm still trying to get this working. I think the MAIN problem is the performance of the web server. This site is on a shared server, meaning many other site are on the same IP address and the server sorts it out. I think that the server is overloaded and that the Security Certificate is not up to date, although I have paid for the latest Security Certificate. I have been using t

To All,
The forum (powered by Phorum) has been having software issues. The Phorum software that runs this site needs the latest stable version installed. This will take some time and I still have a full time job and the Holiday Season complicates my available time resources. I hope that on Friday, December 1st I will have an opportunity to update the forum's Phorum software. I hope th

Sorry about the delay in getting the Phorum back up. I was out of state and have to be at my home computer to access the server. I have not been as able to manage the site lately due to work issues and family matters. I hope to get everything back under wraps soon to dedicate more time to website admin.
Thank you for your understanding,

Gentlemen,
I really don't know what to do. I haven't edited any script for a while. The Phorum PHP script hasn't been changed since the last update. I guess different browsers interpret code in different ways. As for the iPhone issues, I would have to put that on Apple.

Gentlemen,
I have 'cleaned up' the end part of this thread. Let's keep this respectable, insults and demeaning vulgar content should be left out.
Thank You,

Merry Christmas to All and a Happy New Year too!
Yes, this forum is going on 13 years now. That is part of the reason for the slow and poor search results, a 13 year old Phorum platform. When starting this forum at Tom's direction, I had no idea what platform to use, so I looked at another 'popular' Metal Detecting website and used what they were using. Probably not the bes

I did reset these data points a few years back because of an individual who took actions to fraudulently run up these parameters. The problem has been fixed. The forum IS doing well.

Hmmm, maybe this forum should start a Whites sub-forum? Although, I don't think Tom would agree. Tom wants to keep all posts in one main forum, I believe his thought is that 'segregation causes segregation' or 'discrimination causes discrimination'. I believe his thought is that if detectorists only go straight to the Whites section or Nautilus section or Tesoro sectio

I wonder, if Dankowski Detectors was having a give away or contest, would Friendly's allow our event to be announced on their forum, and even link to it? How Friendly are they? Might this forum be even friendlier? Hmmmm...

We have a hot link rule? Pretty much, as long as it's not just a gratuitous link to some site somebody is trying to promote, there is no problem with linking (as long as it is not spam, like moving services in Bangladesh). Or somebody that's only purpose to come to this site is to promote something (like their really super special metal detecting site). To link to a metal detecting a

This website exists because of E-Bay fees.
Long ago, when Tom and I made the Inland Coin and Relics video, we were first going to sell it on E-Bay. With the listing fees and selling fees and such, we thought it would be more cost effective to just start a website and sell from it (even if though we had just one item to sell). We posted articles Tom had written over the years and he wrote a f

Gentlemen,
Sometimes the postings to the forum are slow due to server traffic. Dankowski Detectors is hosted on a shared server, so sometimes other websites on this server can cause a slowdown due to traffic to their site. When posting from your phone, quite often cell tower traffic or being in a fringe reception area between two cell towers can cause the posting to be slow. If it'

I'm not booting anybody but there are a few postings that violate the 'terms of use that I'll have to delete. Just try to play nice and respectfully disagree. Try to use a little Irish diplomacy.

Please gentlemen, what started out as a good natured ribbing of DoctorTones has digressed into a bashing. If someone doesn't like a nonsensical posting then please don't read it. When I get home tomorrow I'll delete and edit what I must (hard to do from a smart phone). Can everybody just get along, agree to disagree or at least ignore those you dislike?

This site did not have a resource limit as it has been increased for this site, HOWEVER, this site is hosted on a so-called 'shared' server, numerous other websites (it used to be 14 other websites, now that info is hidden). IF one of those websites gets swamped with traffic, it 'limits resources' on the whole server, hence we suffer. I believe this problem has been addresse

There is still 20 gig of bandwidth left. (?) I will get in touch with the server owners and find out what is going on. This is a shared server website, maybe a new website has been added to this server that has a lot of traffic. Sorry about this problem,if it continues I may have to switch providers (and that is another can of worms to deal with).

I got just on the edge of the eye. 100 MPH winds, no flooding in my neighborhood. No damage to the house, never lost electricity (and it's not because I work for the power company, just got lucky). Thanks to everyone for your prayers and concern.

Thanks Keith,
I'm more on the West Coast / Tampa area and so far it doesn't look like it will be too bad. Good Luck Tom, so far as the tracking goes, you look like your closer to the bulls-eye. Be careful, I hope it stays out to sea like Floyd did years ago.

Daniel,
I ended up going to Sweetwater because the weather look like it was deteriorating in South Carolina but improving in Tennessee. We also like Tennessee better because there's more tourist stuff in TN. We did one day in Chattanooga and saw Rock City, rode the Inclined Railway and went into Raccoon Caverns. 5 minutes after totality we headed to Lost Sea Adventure and it was a

My apologies for not getting to approve new members over the last 4 days. I had been out of town and not well connected to the internet to monitor the website. I don't like logging in as an administrator in places I don't know that well. Saw the full solar eclipse, it was AWESOME. can't wait until the next one (April 8, 2024).

The only problem with blocking ads is that if EVERYBODY ( or too many people ) block the ads then what pays for the website hosting? The ads are what keeps the website 'free' ( except for the inconvenience of having to deal with the ads ). Just saying...

GENTLEMEN,
Can we please stop posting to this thread and just let it fade into the back pages? The site is about to go over it's monthly bandwidth allotment and it seems that this thread is to blame.
PLEASE, just let this thread fade onto the back pages.
Thank You and Happy Hunting

Ron,
I almost feel that I 'hijacked' this thread, but, I would say it 'evolved' from third party image hosts to why some sites don't host images themselves to the problems of the clunky site I administer to a hero (Pimento) who explains it all and saves the day. I love this forum...
