I did side by side testing with Equinox and E-Trac..
E-Trac had no trouble with big silver on edge..
I believe it has been brought to Minelabs attention so hopefully it can be fixed with a software update..

Yes the Equinox has trouble with bigger silver on edge.. Silver Quarters, Halves and bigger silver rings standing on edge register iron or foil range..
Definitely a problem. Silver dimes and thin silver rings are not a problem..

I’m not sure what your intended targets are Wayne.. If your after gold jewelry your going to dig slaw all day in a city park.
If your after old coins like me you will only run in to it chasing Nicke

I wonder if it has something to do with being on saltwater beach as to your iron problem..
I just dumped out my pouch from yesterday’s 5 hour Park hunt and I only dug 5 square nails and one bolt.
None of the nails were a surprise.. I was digging iffy iron false type signals trying to learn the detector..
The Equinox acts a lot like my E-Trac on nails only that it’s easier to decipher what goi

Nice find! Good to see your making videos again..
Don’t forget to increase your swing speed when checking your signals in Recovery 7..
Makes a big difference.. Us FBS users are used to a slow swing speed..
Good stuff!
Thanks for posting the video..

Nice hunt Calabash!
I’m not a relic hunter but I knew the Equinox would be a button magnet for you relic hunters
after what I witnessed Park hunting..
I also expect plenty of bullets from you guys too.. It loves deep lead..
Thanks for posting..

Yes.. This is almost entirely how I hunt.. old city parks, curb strips and an occasional old home when I get the courage to door knock..

Wayne I was hoping you were going to be one of the relic hunters to try out the Nox..
I’m not a relic hunter but enjoy reading about the relic hunts and techniques used..
I only have around 6 hours on my 800 but I can tell already there is something going on with the Multi-IQ..
I picked a spot that I had gridded with my E-Trac earlier this year.. I was very surprised at what happed on that hun

You will never get the Equinox to sound like an E-Trac just because it’s upper limit is 500 Hz compared to
the E-Trac at something like 1000 or 1200 Hz if I remember correctly..
Other then that I do like the Equinox tones better.. Still lots of information but cleaner..
I would like them to expand the Audio..
As far as ID at depth.. FBS might have a tighter ID number range, for example 12-4

Nice first hunt and awesome ring!
Your Equinox observations were similar to mine..
I too believe it will turn out to be a button killer.. The depth of tiny brass is pretty amazing..
Yes, they need to work on the modulation on the first 5 inches along with the depth meter..
Cross check those high tones in in both directions with your pinpoint to check shape and to isolate or help identify n

The 50 Tones can be turned up a little more on the 800 under the Advanced setting but It still would have been nice to
have that extra 10 points of conductive range with the higher tones to go with it..
5 Tones Advanced settings on the 800 really allow you to make your desired targets pop with both volume and pitch
control under more ranges.
The Equinox definitely has a different feel comp

Worst case scenario is that the Equinox is maybe the ultimate team mate to an FBS Detector..
It might be too that those with more mild ground might not see the benefits of Multi -IQ as those of us with
bad ground.. It runs very quiet compared to my CTX and E-Trac..
Speed even at the slower Recovery settings are in a different league to FBS..
There are several changes I would like to see tho

Njnydigger I’ll agree with you that the Modulation in the first 5 or 6 inches is pretty much useless
and I wish the tones went higher, although the 800 has Audio customization that can help with this compared with the 600.
I only have about 8 hours on my Equinox but I have to say I was a bit shocked by it today..
It is deep.. I have to do more real life testing but my Equinox appears to be dee

Good stuff. Thanks.
I’m hoping to find a place to hunt over the next few days that’s not snow covered or frozen..
I plan on starting out with the Iron Bias at 0 and work up if needed.. Speed around 4-5 and see what happens..

Yes, I was hoping Tom would at least Give us his insights on the Iron Bias and Speed settings..
I think these will be key for getting optimal performance out of the Equinox in different conditions..

The custom Audio of the 800 can be useful for Park hunting..
One example is the ability to change the size and pitch of All the zones as well as the volume of each zone..
Not just the first Ferrous zone like the 600..
You can take the tab zone, size it, give it a low tone and drop the volume down real low..
It makes coins next to trash really stand out..
If you are the type of hunter who n

Just my opinion but I would not settle for the 600 if I were you guys.. Even if your not a gold hunter.
The Gold modes are very powerful All Metal with VID and could be useful for Relic hunting..
The finer Recovery Speed controls and especially the custom audio abilities and Tone Break adjustments of the 800 make it worth it..
Finally, the wireless headphones are nice and if you don’t like

Yes, I was using 5 kHz Frequency to test against Multi.. I found that the rolled up or broken beaver tail pull tabs that read 12-13 Nickel signal
will fall off sharply and bounce around in 5 KHz.. Might be a good coin check tool. Crown caps that read mid teens shoot to 30s in 5 KHz..
Will have to do extensive in ground testing to validate...

I’m stuck inside waiting for some snow to melt, but from the testing inside that I have done with both iron and aluminum
adjacent to coins, I can see that those who are willing to learn the audio and coil manipulation will be rewarded..
There is a lot of information in the Equinox audio and the higher Recovery speed settings are not necessarily needed
or desirable for high trash areas.. You l

Since the pinpoint mode has the more precise depth modulation it too bad they didn’t implement the
depth meter on that mode.. I don’t know if this was just overlooked or there is reasoning behind it.

Des D, I think that last shot of him standing the pinpointer in the hole is deceiving..
If you go back and watch him dig the mercury dime and probe for it, you can see that the pinpointer
is all the way in the hole. I think 9” was a good call.. No less then 8.
Start watching the video at around 12:20 a pay close attention..

Maybe try pinpointing the target precisely and then checking the TID and depth.. Both can be affected when the
coil is not centered over the target.. I see that the Equinox depth meter is calibrated to a US Quarter so smaller
targets are going to read a little deeper.. A lot of detectors are calibrated to a dime or penny size target..
I wish I wasn’t snowed in so I could test this in the gro

You nailed Brian.. Out west the Fisher Tek Detectors fall on their face after about 6”..
Racers do better then the Fisher Tek Detectors out here and FBS is king for deep high conductors..
Problem with the FBS is they are terrible in iron.
This Equinox is lightning fast compared to my E-Trac but I’m not sure about ID at depth yet..
I have at least two weeks of hard winter in front of me so

Thanks Tom!
Very interesting and I appreciated the tip.. Hopefully my ground will allow the use of Beach 2 and I will assume from
your response that aside from the various settings that Park 1 and Field 1 are using the same, or close to the same Multi Frequency Weighting..
I look forward to more of your insight on the Equinox..

I would really like to get some more information on the Equinox Modes besides what’s in the manual..
It seems the Multi Frequency Weighting in Park 1 and Field 1 might be the same with the only
differences between the modes being the stock discrimination patterns, Recovery speed and Iron Bias settings.
Same for Park 2 and Field 2.. if this is the case it would be good to know for setting up

I can get pretty close to passing with mine but it has trouble with position 1 # 2 and position 2 #4 down the barrel..
I can actually get it to sound off on the entire test if I manipulate the coil a bit.
I’m thinking that everyone uses different nails and coins and that might influence outcome.
I use rusty dug up nails and tried to match them to the nail Photos on the board as close as po
