"for multiple reasons"
You have probably spelled out those reason in other gold related thread but I would love to hear you expound on those. For some reason I never get tired of learning all I can about the wheres and why's of the old timer cache burying mentality.

Some very good machines have come out since the prototype Fisher was being tested. It stands to reason that the new Fisher unit is being tweaked to be ensure that its truly better than the competition.

I find it interesting that Fisher was expected to release a new flagship detector late last year. In the mean time the Deus came on the seen. I can't help but wonder if some changes are being made to the next Fisher to ensure that it blows the Deus out of the water.

Read an account of the CTX going to a previously hunted yard site and he pulled 2 wheats out that the other detector missed. Oh boy, just another 110,000 more yards like that and the CTX will pay for itself. My price limit needs to be in the ballpark of something I think I can pay off in a reasonable amount of time given the types of finds we typically make.

Seriously........Kellyco only gets twenty?..........Just how many machines have they manufactured? A month long hoopla and they have less than what......a hundred detectors availible worldwide.

I can see where that would be a prime target for hackers. Now that the CTX3030 is GPS enabled, a hacker would have access to every place you hunt and knowledge of your finds and their value. Not only that but they could probably also find out where you live and keep all you treasures.

One things for sure. I have quit reading all other Detecting websites. With the huge price tag on the CTX 3030 all other sites will be dominated by those who stand to make money by touting it as the greatest detector ever.

I think I might be brand loyal. 3 Detectors 3 Fishers. Every dollar counts and I try to make the most of my purchase. I don't need the most expensive detector, I don't need the most gadgets on my detector. I don't need GPS or wireless headphones. I try to get the most reasonably priced detector that gives me the ability to compete with the professionals who spend unlimited dol

Set up options depend to a large degree on the conditions you encounter in any given field. If the weed growth isn't too bad and the air gap is minimal I don't bother using SL mode. Whenever posible I run Sens 99 Thres +9. Disc and tone option depends on how bad the iron is. I prefer Disc 6 with 1F but if I am digging too much junk I lower the Disc as close to 0 as I can stand and r

NIce finds. I know of an old abandoned golf course in my area and have always wondered about where the hot spots on a course would be. The club house area obviously stands out as the first place to go but where on the course would be the best place to try?

If I rember correctly they called for bad hurricane seasons for the last few years and all those forcasts were a bust. In fact every since Katrina the hurricanes haven't been that memorable. But year in year out they find some reason(global warming, el nino, la nina, etc) for predicting a bad year. Eventually we will have a bad year and they will think they are geniuses.

Daniel, I have enjoyed reading your posts but I'm afraid your account is going to be deleted because of your statement.................wait a minute........this is Tom's site and its the one and only site that allows metal detectorist to have a frank, open discussion that actually gives us honest information we truly need and can use.

I have never understood that, Tom. I know the F75/70 are independent systems but I have never had an occurance where I noticed a difference. In heavy iron when trying to unmask coins it seems to me they are in synch. Whenever I get a repeatable high tone they VDI has always briefly shown a corresponding flash into the 60-80 area depending on the denomination. I have, however, noticed that man

40 machines in 9 years? I bought my 1265x in 1985 and didn't replace it until 2009 when I added my F70. (Added a CZ-21 last fall but that's only because I found a few historic places that require total submersion) The longer I keep and use a machine the more unique features and abilities I find it has. Both of my units are for the most part "turn and go" machines and peopl

"It would be a LONG write-up if I were to give instructions/lessons as to 'how' and 'when' to use auto-tune mode. I would like to do this....... but time is difficult to find!"
That write up would be metal detecting Nirvana! We could all take turns mowing your lawn in order to give you the needed free time. Strangely enough I have found myself using auto-tune mu

Tilting the coil? By doing so it might unmask a target? I had never thought of using the coil in any position other than parallel to the ground.

I would love to see that. By any chance, Shambler are you the guy from Vincennes(if so I know some great places in Daviess and Martin Co)? Its not that I don't believe you. Its more that I wonder what settings the F70 man was using and trying to adjust to. If he didn't get it cranked up to 99 sens, +9 thres than I would say its very possible he didn't hear anything. I had so m

I don't get it either. On one hand the idea that my F70 that cost half as much as an Etrac should even be on the same field seems too idiotic to even contemplate. Even the Explorers cost much more. So it stands to reason that they should be much better. But then there is the real world comparisons that I see every time I hunt with other detectorists. Everyone in my area uses Minelabs.

I think the F70 is a great machine capable of holding its own against the best machines out there. I have, however, seen numerous posters on forums who have been disappointed by it. I have always wondered whether its their soil or the setting they use or maybe its that they couldn't understand the deeper targets. As someone just starting out I think its imperative that he use the default

I am always looking for ways to improve my F70's performance. You have intrigued me with your ideas in this post. I think we both have similiar soil(Illinois/Indiana)so we should be getting similiar performance. When you talk about lowering your sensitivity, how low are you talking? Also how high are you setting the Disc and the Threshold? Thanks for posting on this topic!
Oh yeah.

Obviously I'm not a Minelab man so my thoughts could be totally wrong but I think that with the smaller coil you are "seeing" less ground which in turn gives an initial target response that is going to be more accurate because there is less information being analyzed. Can that make a subconscience difference in what grabs your attention? Once the detector gets your attention and

Keith, you are making me feel good about the biggest complaint I have against myself. Every time I go to the hard hit fairgrounds and parks I always end up with a pouch full of bent nails. Its been a pet peeve of my for a long time. Nobody else I hunt with ever has as many as I do and I always felt like I was less efficient than they were. Why couldn't I eliminate them like they do? I, too enjoy your posts, Keith and a very interesting response. More than ironic your go to machine would be analog with no VDI and a concentric coil. The exact opposite of the way everything in the hobby is going.
