Does anyone know the Omega 8000 version history? I have a V6. I know some only had different small/large or both headphone jacks but same innards. I thought some had some improvements with the EMI reduction compared to the very first ones. Actually I thought V4 were the first models so I'm wondering why those are still being sold over a higher/newer version.

Along those lines I read there is some sort of software upgrade due in 2017 (Rutus thread, comments by Shelton on detectorprospector.com). But who really knows? Sometimes those things never happen or take years. As far as I have read it is not possible for the owner to upgrad

Having shipped some detectors recently I too was shocked by the shipping game. I usually found USPS ground to be cheapest for detector sized boxes. But on some smaller packages USPS might quote $10.50 for 2 day and $10.20 for 5 day. Really strange. The shipping costs appear to be set by weight, distance, delivery time and something called volumetric weight and not just the size LxWxH. I gues

Do you guys think the Rutus, AKA, Nexus detectors are primarily made for open field hunting? I haven't seen much in the way of demos with these machines in an urban environment with EMI and trash to contend with while chasing coins. It's typically rural open fields with targets far apart with some large iron mixed in. A common theme by the manufacturers is a demonstration how incred

I've used adhesive backed Velcro and wrapped one layer of the plastic loop part to the rod. Then I used a piece of regular (no adhesive) soft side Velcro around the cord and shaft. It doesn't slide around and holds. You just have to watch where you stick the Velcro on to the shaft so you have the full adjustment. On some machines I like to do it near the main box so the cable doesn&

Does anyone have a test garden with a buried US dime or quarter at 10 inches or more and be able to compare the Alter 71 with an F75 or FBS machine? Try to evaluate both the audio and ID if still possible. This thing is really interesting.

Having recently bought my XL Pro from Harold I am thoroughly enjoying analog meter technology once again. It's tells a lot with the needle action that flashing numbers don't always communicate. On my truck I have a regular speedometer and an optional digital readout for the speed. I have shut off the digital readout. My Etrac is as complicated as I care to get and I don't mess

I have a love/hate relationship with my Etrac. Like you said it's the only one I have found that can reliably perform on deep coins in our local soils. Like most I don't like the weight and slow response. I have sold off most of my machines due to sore knees and not sure how much detecting I will get in this year. BUT the Etrac was one of the machines I held on to for coins. Last y

Great idea. I hope Minlelab doesn't come out with a lighter similar design and sue everyone for patent infringement! Just kidding.
Hey Keith, any chance of you running your in-ground deep dime tests with one or more of your BBS and FBS detectors? Talking about Minelab made me think about it. I didn't see any of those on your YT channel and wondered how they compared.

Are there any Impact testers in the Rocky Mountain region for feedback? We have challenging highly mineralized soils and I would be curious how well the Impact TID works and overall depth. A Racer for example can usually ID to about 4-5 inches and overall depth going by audio about 7 inches on a good day. Not unusual for most single frequency machines.
Thanks to you guys that have put in th

Check the date on the manual. The one online for instance is dated 2008 so that is superseded by the changes in 2011 and that is what Minelab will honor.

I think around 7/1/2011 Minelab modified the warranty terms. I believe that was when it was extended to a longer period and made transferrable. You will probably see different terms depending on the date of the document. Bottom line is what was in effect when it was purchased new.
edit-I remember some people understandably miffed when they bought a machine in June not knowing the warranty t

I've wondered about EMI sources and have heard the usual stuff like cell towers and wireless access points. What I don't get is how those sources could be a big problem when they operate at a far higher frequency. I've been near cell antennas and my detectors have run just fine. Wireless APs run around 2.4gHz or 5 gHz. What I suspect for most EMI sources is some sort of transfo

Unreal. I thought maybe they could be preserved as museum pieces and mounted on pedestals for that much money. I sure wouldn't want to pay more for a coil than you would for a detector and then go out and scratch them up. I want to watch to see if anyone actually does buy them. I have one I paid $125 for several years ago I keep on an IDX. I like it but I don't think it's wort

Outstanding idea. I agree the stock ones aren't comfortable. Who's going to come up with a padded cuff for this new version? Ergonomics of detectors seems to be an afterthought and making them adjustable to people with different heights, arm diameters, etc. Things are getting better over time.

Just curious, where do you live? I've begun hunting parks again recently and discovered the Racer (and other VLFs) just won't cut it in Colorado soil with a lot of magnetite. Back to FBS for me and a backache. The Racer is still going to get work in the trashy ghost towns.
I don't want to hijack this thread so PM me if you want to extend the conversation. Thx.

A similar idea for search engines is try "etrac sensitivity 26 higher boost site:dankowskidetectors.com" without the quotes. That syntax should work with most search engines and with about any target site. It will look for those words in the web site name following the "site:" command. Try to keep the search words unique and short and leave out stuff like at, and, goes, etc

I get on feebay and search for zagg tablet. I just bought one for a 10 inch tablet (brand doesn't matter) for under $5. If I have them I try to use the factory screen protector as a template on a piece of paper and then use that for the film. It works great over membrane buttons like on the Etrac.

Here is a suggestion to improve public perception. At one time Dave Johnson wrote an engineering report on the MXT and it was posted to their web site. Pretty awesome stuff. There are similar essays on the Tek and Fisher sites. As for the one on Whites, I can do an internet search for "whites mxt engineering report" and get a link to it at Whites. If I just browse the site from the

I bought my first Whites in the last 1980's and have always thought the world of the company and their products. I personally don't have much trust in Whites these days and I am leery of buying their new products until I see a turn around. One of your original points is about how Whites is communicating and handling the issue. If someone does not frequent the correct forums and was n

I bought an Omega (I think) and FTP ran a promotion to buy extra coils for cheap around December time frame. I ordered two, got them and threw them on the shelf since it was winter. A fe

Jack on the tone/audio side of the R2 that you are figuring out, do you think the R2 blends the audio as well as the R1 or maybe even better than the R1 since you have made the adjustments? Are you still able to distinguish the trash from the good stuff like you could with the R1?

Good for you Jack. Can you comment on the target depth and soil conditions? The reason I wonder is I have been doing some testing against a buddy using an Etrac with stock coil. The soil we have hits about 80 on phase and about 2/3 of the pie chart. Bad juju already. What I have found is my red Racer with stock or 5x10 coil simply can't get past 5 inches. He will find a target with a c
