Those are some incedible sizes. During my last trip to the beach last year . . .
I was swinging in the dry sand and along the top of the wet slope with my ATPro
and a guy passed me bye with one of those on a PI Unit . . . like I was standing still.
5 minutes later I looked up and he was a full 300 yards down the beach . . . still looking
fresh and like he could do that all day.

Weight analysis: ± .5 Oz.
Stock 8.5 X 11 = 21 Oz. / 600g
15" NEL = 28 Oz. / 800g
Contro Head = 21 Oz. / 600g with Audio Adapter Cable and Auvio Wireless TX
Well the 15" NEL will tax me by 7 more Oz. in weight BUT I get to take the control
Head off the stem and chest mount it . . . so I go from a total of 42 Oz. to 28 Oz.
This will allow me to swing a further exte

Has anyone purchased the 15" Attack Coil for the ATPro or Gold and used it enough

Steve . . . that was relavent to my camping days in Northern Colorado' Poudre Canyon.

middle of the summer.

Didn't fully realize it but I have almost doubled ( 89% ) the size of the coil and amount of ground the coil will sample ?
If it is made well and they have done their home work? . . . It will run smooth enough to use where and when I need it.
Then again . . . there will always be those days and locations . . . where nothing works . . . life is a beach.

P.S. Seriously SKIP THE COT it will cause you to freeze your butt off.
You will not get any sleep if you increase the cold air around you . . . by allowing it beneath you.

Sailorman - I was there ( salt water ) 2 wk ends ago and using my stock 8.5 X 11 DD.
It was quite as a mouse . . . even on the wet slope and in the water. I was surprised.
Over the winter Garrett did a complete check up and calibration . . . and obviously it
turned out awesome. However, the stock coil wears me out in no time so I went looking
for a belt mountable replacement coil. The NEL sho

Well . . . Similar to what a lot of you folks are doing, I decided to take a chance.
15" Attack Coil ordered with 78" cable for chest mounting . . .
I have extended the rod out 3 extra clicks for a max. sweep.
This 15" NEL Attack Coil weighs either 700g or 800g ? . . . I have seen both figures quoted so . . .?
I have yet to weigh my stock 8.5 X 11 DD with the short cable s

Just for chitts and giggles I revisited that 1 year old post this am and
found this !
Looks legit to me !
There's a you tube video within this post of a Russian guy air testing one
of the coils but it is unclear to me exactly what distances he is getting
with his particular test coins?
That was a 1 Meter wooden measuring stick ( 1M = 39" ) he was using

With the stock 8.5 X 11 DD I am limited to about an hour or so of swing time.
It will wear you out very quickly at the beach.
If there was a long enough cable? to allow belt or chest mounting the control? . . .
then you could do 3 or 4 hours with rests in between and not experience so much
soreness?
I was recently at the beach and forced myself to swing that 8.5 X 11 DD for more hours

I have the same set up. It is a very good unit when hitting on all cylinders and
will definitely get the job done. Garrett is a top notch / customer friendly company.
It took me 1 painful year to iron out the problems but I am glad I stuck with it and
glad Garrett was there with me through the entire journey.

I find it hard to believe that any manufacturer of these units would crack the seal on one of these ( especially a waterproof model ) when it comes in for repair and a tune up. Then actually adjust various internal components with a screw driver ??? I don't think so . . . highly unlikely . . .
It almost has to be that ? . . . everything is adjusted my putting the display in adjust mode

LowBoy - I absolutely agree.
Unfortunately a lot of damage has already been done and
once it becomes a prohibited act it never gets reversed.
You would think a resposible, experienced adult who has paid the
insane rate of taxes for many years would deserve a little respect.
But no . . . we all lose.

For sure those stupid shows have really put us all in a bad light
in the eyes of the general public.
Making an absolute mess, bringing in a back hoe, taking decks apart . . .
Staged finds, staged dealers offering inflated easy big money probably
supported heavily by the TV Show Revenues.
TV network influence . . . and Money had to change hands in order to

Defines other anomalies beneath the surface and on the bottom . . .
Makes we wonder? How hard have the MD Manufacturers really tried all there years?

Not Owners Manuals !!!
With the multitude of older units still in use that allow easy access to the board . . . if service manuals or at least the
section dealing with the calibration protocol the owner could tune it and keep it tuned to his/her preference? Right?
Is there anyone out there who has some of these? and willing to share this info. with us?

Pimento - Fascinating stuff but way over my head especially at my age.
I would not want to send my 1266X out of the country to someone I don't
know on a whim.
A stock 1266X has a lot of further potential if unlocked . . . no doubt.
It is just that, I am surprised that my stock AT Pro punches deeper than my
stock (and tuned) 1266X in every way using the stock 10" coils of each

Well Tom . . . I have a nice 1266X in top shape with every coil ever made for it.
You did it once . . . you can do it again . . . maybe even better this time? . . .
and I know we (now) have the technology to have greater ferrous/non-ferrous
Discrim abilities....... to fringe depths....... and in fairly heavy mineralization.

Cheez I gave myself an idea . . . build your own . . . like Tom's science project when he was a kid except . . . look at how much further technology has come since then.
Why couldn't you build one just like building a computer THE WAY YOU WANT IT.

Advanced beach hunting would be awesome.
I'd also like to see some repair tech stuff . . . fixing coil wires,
open some units up and lets look inside, simple to advanced calibration,
modifications of various pieces of equip. . . . .
There are a lot of highly educated people here with expert knowledge in
this field and other closely related fields . . . there is a good chance for

I have had the Pro for 16 mos. great MD in just about any dirt (especially wet)
and very dry sand or frsh water but it just does not like to be around salt.
Even if you reduce the footprint to the 5X8 and play with the freq. shift.
It is . . . what it is !!!
