Critterhunter - EMI . . . you wouldn't think so with each wire shielded ? But . . . ?
Extra length degrading the signal . . . possible . . . in a minute way you would think ?
But all of this is suppose to be designed into the overall product and optimized isn't it ?

Dewcon - If it doesn't work then it's broke, right? When you can't swing the coil
without tugging the cord from the coil everytiime something has to be fixed, right?
I don't complain just for the heck of it. It cannot be swung properly when belt mounted.
You cannot swing the coil completely from side-to-side because the cord is still too short.
It's miserable as de

You know . . . in this day and age . . . many different MD Manufacturers offer longer cables or extensions . . . because for some of us it is necessary and for others it is a popular mod.
Given the number of AT units (has to be many, many thousands) Garrett has sold without making this available is just SILLY and a slap in the face. Only they have the connectors . . . and
won't sell them

Are there general or generic repair shops that can refit a coil
with a longer cable and just reuse the proprietary connector
that fits to the back of the control ??? I assume where the
cable internally connects inside the coil are all soldered ???
Doesn't seem like a big deal ???

Tom . . . Amen . . . isn't that the truth.
When I think about the expense, very limited areas, being hassled and
time involved . . . 5 - 6" depth does nothing but greatly disappoint me.
We all KNOW the better stuff is down deeper but . . .
As long as we continue to accept this kind of poor performance they
will continue to milk the cash cow ( us ! ) while everyone watches the

Silverhound . . . well . . . who's to say? VLF & PI may be at the end of the rope?
That big paradigm shift Tom always mentions could very well be the only answer to advance this hobby???
I just know that when I use my MD Equip. I don't get any feeling of power or that I am doing anything professional.
Feels adolescent to me . . . now let me remind you . . . I am a coin shoot

Tom - After TerraDigger contributed his comments concerning shielding I just happen to look at some ML stuff and . . .
I noticed an advertisement from Coiltek for the ML Brand and noticed they emphasized AI for ML MD's. After a closer look
I found out that stands for Anti-Interference. Interesting . . . . . . I'm sure design and a bunch of other things have a lot to do
with it too bu

TerraDigger - I am by no means educated in MD'g Sci.
I did however do 2 years of Computer Sci. which is now ancient.
So, like yourself, in trying to figure out where the weak links are,
my thoughts kept going back to the coil. It all starts with the coil doesn't it?
You put junk in and you push junk out.
So anyway . . . coil size, coil design, shielding, inner coil windings,

In my mind the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot and Aliens from other planets do not exist and
the word can't is too easily used . . . and again . . . ML has proven it can be done and to a lesser
degree so has Fisher.
It is just that most MD Manu. Companies have decided this is the way we need to be treated
obviously to maximize profit and it has been going on for many, many years.

I am absolutely humbled. I am just speaking my mind about what I feel is most important
for me to really enjoy this hobby . . . which is not happening yet . . . and I do not want to let it go.
One person can make a difference, many can cause rapid change, please get on the wagon.
Depth isn't everything . . . but when the goodies are at 12" and you're not . . . it's the

TerraDigger - That's what I'm talking about . . . just another 3 or 4".
Like to see a quality coil manufacturing only company put something together and
shake things up in this hobby because the Big Name Brand MD Companies are never going to.
They seem to be fixated on bells and whistles that seem to do nothing for depth.
How many different ways do you need . . . to find a sh

Took my AT Pro out for 4 hrs of trails, shallow river & river bank hunting with my big coil today . . . what a pain.
Noisy, always 2 or 3 targets being looked at simutaneously, heavy, unbalanced, can't swing that thing in the water,
hard to pinpoint.
Wouldn't it be nice if every manufacturer would learn how to substantially increase the effective depth of their 4", 5&qu

I like it all but there is something just so absolutely profound and romantic about
certain old items . . . like the bell Aaron found recently.
Stuff like that just has to touch your soul . . . and would certainly be a prized
possession to me.

Nope.
Just so it does exactly what it is suppose to do and represents a good value to me.
I'm never going to own more than 3 units and will avoid paying more than $1,000 for
any one unit. Rather make an extra house pymt.
I am relatively new and my hunting preferences are still evolving.
My immed. area does not offer much in the way of relics so I am forced to be focused
on coin

I'm not a relic hunter (yet) but that is some amazing looking stuff.
Wish I was in a area such as that.
That Bell is family heirloom stuff there Aaron.
Way to go Mr. MD Extraordinaire.

Got it from a friend. It's already been tested on his 1266X.
He does mainly relic hunting, I do mainly coins in semi-trashy areas.
Depth is almost as good as the 8" round and equal on a 25C.
I needed a small coil, my 1266X coil pkg will now consist of the . . .
5X10", 6", 8" and 10.5 spider.

Sounds like he was one of those people who really stood out and
made you take notice that you have met someone special.
At 61 I have only met 3 such people in my life.
Wish Wally would have been #4.
My deepest prayers are with his family & friends.
He has made the ultimate find. No need to hunt anymore.

I intend to get one but Fisher is going to be at least another 8 months before
they disclose what they are up to . . . as far as the latest and greatest.
Then you have to (should) wait for evaluations to be done.
We don't even know what model they are looking to upgrade?
They should release that stuff in the spring time.
