Thanks for the suggestions gents.....dug nothing but old shotgun cartridges today for 4 hours solid......and then a very old possibly medieval cast iron clothes iron.....unexpected!
Old woods can produce just about anything....or nothing.

I'm in europe....not the same as homestead hunting in US.
When I say no iron I mean not a carpet of iron.....obviously there is some iron.

It's a very old 900 acre wood that was part of an estate....was for private use only mostly shooting......there are good finds but very spread out.....and deep!

The fact they are using headlamps tells me they are NOT trespassing, they'd be spotted from miles off at night, military don't use lights for same reason.

Yes I always wanted a Bronze age axe, when I found the first one it was a very special moment holding one of the most ancient metal objects ever made by mankind,.

It seems every flagship detector nowadays is high frequency, lets say above 12khz , are low to medium frequency detectors in the 4khz to 10khz range becoming obsolete and has the super high gain in HF detectors overcome
the old problem of them not being hot on high conductivity targets, are the benefits of HF such as recovery speed and being hot on small finds so great that they are the future

I had a Coinscanner pro 2 for a year, depth was not good at all, did like the meter and red meter light though, it did find me a U.S 2 cent coin in the wet sand on my local beach.

That's exactly my situation....separation is not much use on 90% of my sites.....depth is everything.

Keith I was thinking it might be helpful to rank all the detectors you have tested on your youtube channel as it can be hard to keep track of which one you judge to be the best, with so many machines available and new ones on the way it might help people to choose wisely a particular detector suitable for their sites, I was thinking something like as follows......
Best Detector in heav

Goldenmasks are excellent detectors, deep and fast,I'd like to see keith review the 4wd or the 5, they might take off in the U.S with a VID. Outstanding value for money as well.

I have a soft spot for non motion machines with a needle meter......wish there was a top performing model from some manufacturer......I suspect a few grey haired detectorists might purchase for nostalgia reasons if nothing
else.......I think they are especially good for woodland detecting.

My Explorer 2 is the BEST thin low conductive(hammered) coin finder I ever used......but yes terrible on micro jewelry......pretty much blind in heavy iron as well.

I find the Euro one cent coin a good test, it's a steel coin covered by a very thin copper coating, size 16.25mm
My xterra 70 reads it as solid iron with the 7.5khz coils, the 18.75khz coils give a beautiful clear non ferrous tone, even in all metal there is no mixed iron/non ferrous tone.
The one cent is the hardest to get a non ferrous tone on, the 2 cent is easier and the 5 cent is

Tom I have had a sov GT,Explorer 2 etc on the beach and of course they are better,my question was more of a theory one to find out which frequency is better on wet salt sand.

I'm interested to know which frequency is best on wet salt sand,is it the same as on land where HF is good on low conductors and LF on high conductors or does the wet salt sand change things,I seem to get best results with my xterra with the 18.75Khz coil fitted rather than the 7.5Khz but of course it may be down to pure chance, maybe Tom can give the technical answer...?
