With all this dropping and crashing the MXS.
John slowly starting to appreciate it's flavour.
Vids being posted showing off how it does allright.
I'm feeling we can honestly start to say in Crocodile Dundee style:
"That's not a detector, THIS is a DETECTOR!"
Keep up the good work guys,... you will make me a buyer yet. I'm longing for a waterproof, crashproof

Indeed it's greatest asset is it's downfall when hunting junk filled sites.
I'm not saying I'm very proficient in FBS machines, but their ability to figure out co-locates is amazing.
That's why my BBS Excal won't be leaving for beach hunting. The minelab wiggle is amazing what it tells you about a target.
And I've dug many nickel based coins left behind by

Darn John,
I just sold mine and then you go praise it something awful.
My main gripe with the CTX and much of it is because I like to hunt wet beaches. Lack off SAT All Metal which allows me to listen to the ground.
And my only discrimination need is Ferrous/Non-Ferrous.
So it got used less and less, hunting with the Excal, SDC

That is what a CTX and just about any detector is all about. Learning how to use it,... but hey some people think a stick of dynamite in the pond is fishing.
It's a great machine, probably because I liked mine so much I was realy annoyed with his behavior.
Anyway,... slept on it,... rant over,... time for something new myself.

So I decided to sell my CTX with all the X-mas trimmings.
Guy showed up and I decided beforehand a factory reset was an ideal baseline for a first "date"
Turned it on and saw him turn pale if the face,... Yikes,... what was that all about.
So we started talking and I made him a custom program, tuning down every CTX setting known to man, turning down everything that makes a CTX a

A pair of oversize aigle boots, warm soles and winter socks.
Quilted pants and something I've become very fond off, a pair of lightweight waterproof sailing bibs.
They allow for a lot of freedom of movement and have an easy velcro closure around your boots.
Flanel undershirt, decent neckless fleece, otherwise it gets cramped in that department.

When you've invested the amount of hours into a unit, into a top notch unit as John has into his MXT Pro.
Then something truly awesome happens,... you and the machine become ONE.

They can't give outstanding customer service if the dealers walk away with all the profit.
Same with the big brands we sell, we earn a little when selling new. But the real profit is in customer service.
Parts available for the pro series 25 years plus.
No questions asked if a warranty needs to be handled.

Anyone has their right to their favourite piece of kit.
Some like Racers, Deus, Tesoro, Minelab, Fisher, Garett, Whites and a whole lot of different brands I simply forgot to mention.
Why not bang the drum about your favourite piece of kit,... you can even BANG very loudly,... it's all just detecting.

+1 on selling the "old" detector. A real pain here. I tried advertising on the forums,... seems like people don't buy what I'm into.
Finally take them to my dealer, who flips them around for decent cash.
People trust the dealers when they claim there is warranty left on a unit,... as if they work on the units themselves.
Last time my dealer offered to sell 2 units on my b

Personally I very much like the wireless system.
The 9" coil is fine when you're working sites not too infested in iron.
Proficient Deus users have come to embrace the Racer and it's small coil. Happily paying more for a detector/coil combo than a new Deus coil.
Depth,... not so much,... they use a silent EMI mitigation which doesn't alert the user.

The audio sounds of the XP's are indeed raspy souding. And if your like me with some hearing loss and tinnitus, it doesn't sound great.
In the ID department, in the large iron ID department,... well people tell you they stick their remote in their pocket.

It's all about target signal amplitude vs ground signal amplitude.
And then the frequency, coil shape, coil size, coil design, ground mineralisation makes things muddy.
Muddy because you can just about buy any configuration you imagine and suddenly you're on a winner.
A winner for your ground, your finds, your hunting style.
The only way to find the coil you "need" is

My swing arm just burns up if I'm constantly battling the inertia of a light machine needing a brisk sweep for a decent report.
You just can't try this in the shop, it feels light as a feather. Out detecting it's a pain to use.
Beach hunting with the Excalibur for 4 hours, I can time my swing to my step. It's a heavy thing but we just click and my swing arm doesn't fe

Had a couple of these units.
It indeed seemed as if there wasn't a sweet spot on the coil for surface targets.
To me other units with 6" or 5" coils were a lot easier to run in dense trash.
It however got me the most jewelry out of the trash, it also picked up every bottlecap known to man.
Even the ones the romans tossed,.. just kidding.

Well, last night I had a bit of an insight.
Dry Beach hunting insight.
Foil is light and just above high tide mark it tends to wash up.
Gold likes to hide in the foil conductivity area.
Dry beaches are hit hard, BBS/FBS/PI for the wet sand, VLF for the dry sand.
But judging by the amount of old foil left behind, VLF users usually disc it out.
So just above high tide mark you've g

Just a question about the MXT All Pro.
I've read the Relic mode is a dual mode audio, All/Metal and 2 tone at the same time.
When you trick the MXT into 7 tones in the Relic mode,... read about this also.
Is it still a Dual Mode All/Metal and 7 tones at the same time??
Just a question to know if I'm doing my homework wright.

I've converted the standard Excal phones to 3M Peltor headband and earmuff.
I'll have to see if I can get those gel pads from my parts guy :-)
Probably is that Aluminium stuff,... it sure likes to corrode and break up into shards, pieces.
Throw away BBQ's springs to mind.
I'll have a go on the dry sand with my X-terra 705 and 10.5 DD HF coil,... time permitting :-)

I need some new ears, 50% deaf in one and I can hear the wind blow even at night in my bed. Tinnitus :-)
That and the popular beaches, they like to burn fires, christmas tree burning, end off season bomfire, fireworks, etc, etc.
I'm always finding remnants of charcoal, the Excal just loves this stuff. The threshold gets upset and then it hits.

Living only 15 mins from the beach and not giving it a decent go,... you should be thoroughly ashamed of your present conduct my dear Sir!
When you want peace and quiet, just pick a rainy day,... everyone hits the beach for the water and the swimming,... 3 drops of rain and the place is devoid of all habitation.
People,... weird creatures.

Because if you want to get the good stuff, you dig an awfull lot of trash.

If you are running an Excal in Auto sens, it will not pick up tiny stuff.
Run it in manual and All Metal and get very interested in whispers.
I find if the wind is howling down the beach I don't dig near as much tiny stuff, you simply can't hear them.
On easy wind days, I dig lots of stuff with Excal that falls through the scoop time and time again, 8 mm holes.

The fact that it doesn't look intimidating and collapses down to near nothing gives it a high-tec feel.

Actually the Roman silver isn't that hard,... I'm more of a beach hunter myself as it takes me a 2 hour drive to get into "Roman country".
There are a few Villa's around where I live, but the farmers are something fierce in our moderate coastal climate.
From harvesting to plowing often only takes a few days, so my window of opportunity is very short.

Littered with iron,... as you say,... you can't get a clean sweep.
