Come on Harold. Now you talked sense to the guy...I was ready to take a hot 1021 3D off his hands ! HA !
I agree with Harold on holding on to at least one CZ. Many times I have been out with my new fangled digital friends and forgot how to adjust stuff. Have to read the manual on certain things the night before. Forgot to do that a few weeks back and did not remember the process of linking u

Thanks Calabash,
Exactly the input/comments I was looking for.
I only have the round HF coil and won't be buying the other.
Pretty much sums it up for me, based on the hunting I do.
If I do get one, without a doubt will get the small coil
Gonna hit a field with the Deus and HF coil and see what transpires once this snow clears.
We have had more snow here in March than J

Thanks tn...will take a look.
Just wanting to make a more informed decision as to whether to sell the Deus and get a Nox 800, based on my hunting style and needs.

I bookmarked your site.
The Golden Olde was one of my favorites of all time.
Thank you for taking the time to continue it's presence on the web. I am going to dig through my stuff to see if I have anything from Norm in my archives.

Calabash,
Have you ever tested out the Deus HF coil against the Nox 800 in single frequency, on it's highest , on some of your test garden targets ? Can't remember what the frequency ranges are on the HF coils you have/run, but is it possible to have the Deus and Nox run at close to the same ?
Wondering what the differences would be in terms of ID and tones.
I know the MF on

Harold,
I never been to a DIV hunt, so I am a complete novice when it comes to that, and those that do go (Daniel is one of them), I would yield to their comments.
I think the TDI's and Infiniums did well there when they first came out, and much better than most if not all VLF's.
The GPX's took the next leap and could handle that soil better due to the advanced features, t

I agree Muddy.
Some one can hunt a site one day with a Deus and HF coil, that night it rains, the next day some one comes along with a CZ, AT-Pro, whatever, and snags a nice find that the guy with the Deus missed. And things DO get missed.
Could have been it was missed because the coil was not swung over it, or because the rain may have washed away something on the surface that masked the

You got that right 88....remember the days of yore when some units looked like suitcases and weighed a ton compared to today.
Can only wonder what the future holds 10 years from now.

Harold,
Glad somebody noticed !
A DD coil will separate better than a concentric so if there is a co-located target, the concentric is not going to fare as well.
It's an apples to oranges comparison all around....but still fruit.
I think we can all agree technology has changed the game and there are cool units out there with great performance. But some oldies but goodies can

Daniel,
I bought a 3D from a fellow hunter who ended up telling me the thing was all screwed up. I verified that with Tom as it had a sticker on it. The ID windows were all messed up and the depth was sub-par.
Sold it to another hunter and informed him of the way the thing acted but he didn't care and bought it. I do think it was a newer one (ie, not one of the last lot Los Banos unit

Badger,
There were a few banks near me where they had an automatic coin counting machine that is no longer there. I think it may have been worked too hard or people tried to throw other stuff in there to try to fool it. They shut that thing down.
My regular bank now has the sign up that the coin machine is not working a lot of times. So it is getting rough. Coinstar seems the only way to g

Bryan,
I hear what you are saying, but bear in mind I am talking about clad face value and the worn silver coins melt value.
So if you think of $1,000 a year total, that's about $20 a week. If you are luc

I would like opinions from the 'old time clad hunters' on your thoughts about hunting for clad and what you did with those coins.
Seems clad coin hunting is sinful now n days, and a waste of time for some.
I can tell you what I have done in the clad hunting time frame from 1999 (when my son was born and I decided to implement this strategy) until today.
At the end of every hunt

Why ?
Because some new technology is garbage.
Because some of the older so called antiques are built better.
Because they are reliable and do not break down.
Because those antiques work just as well, if not better than, some of these new mo

Cal..I know you are a tone hunter and a damn good one. I like how you hunt with the Deus and using just the tones and how your ear is trained to them, how a tone or tonal change can stop you in your tracks to sniff out a good target. That takes time to learn and a lot of field time.
That was my point in trying to reiterate why numerical ( and even segmented) ID is secondary to tone. I strictl

Cal,
All I am asking, in terms of numeric target ID, is have you ever dug a silver thimble or silver charm that ID'd the same as a silver coin ?
AND...have you ever dug a silver coin that ID'd as a numeric ID lower than expected (possibly due to co-located targets or iron in the hole and you made the decision to dig) ?
My hunting partner has a Nox 800. Was one of the first one

If you can re-phrase that so I can understand it, I can respond.
But if you think a 5 minute test in your mild soil test garden is the be all end all in determining what a detector can and cannot do, then that is the definition of cognitive dissonance theory

Sorry dude, the Equinox is not going to tell you it's a silver coin. It's gonna tell there is a high conductive target under the coil and based on how the ID parameters are coded, will render a number and tone. Same as a CZ only it's a segment and tone. Bet you dug a silver thimble or charm that you thought at first would be a silver coin a few times.

What is amazing is here we are, watching a video comparing a lights out, newest digital technology, make all other detectors obsolete model against a unit that houses 20 year old analog technology and talking about the MARGINAL differences in the units.
Says a lot about a CZ in my opinion.
Lets have a video comparison of a rotary phone vs an iPhone. I think that analogy is pretty fair in

Unfortunately that is true. Most of the iron sifters have DD coils available too, which makes it a better animal to start.
Most CZ users know that and probably have a much better iron sifter in the arsenal to use when applicable. I don&
