As Goodmore said, you did WELL, Rod!!! Nice digs, especially the silver bracelet
Like you, I'm primarily a turf hunter, although, I used to do a lot of beach hunting years ago. Point Pleasant, Belmar, etc. Here's the thing about NJ beaches...
Most of them have a bunch of iron! So, continue as you're doing, by only digging those repeatable tones ABOVE iron. You have the righ

Wow, Wayne!!! One word: AMAZING
LOVE that heel plate with the heart!!! I found the exact one last year, and it's one of my favorite pieces ever. They made them with all the suits of a deck of cards. Do you believe the mark of a working girl, though? Or, a stamp for troops to mark the dirt signaling their comrades about place with a water source?

Wow, don't see too many folks parting with them, Tom. Is it a weight issue?
BTW, I deal exclusively on most of my detector purchases with Rich at Backwoods. GREAT guy, great deals...one of the best!!!

Everything Rover said is spot on 100%!!! The Safari actually has the widest range of tones of all the Minelabs...which is why it's so deadly. I'm mainly an old coin hunter. As Rover said, when you hear that silver tone, and then see the target is deep on the depth gauge, it's either silver, or a wheat.
I run mine in all metal almost exclusively. I HIGHLY recommend that if your s

Keith, STAY AWAY from those ridiculous shows You've got more knowledge in your little pinky than one would gleam from watching 10 full seasons of those farces. I gave them all a chance when they first came on, but, between the staged finds, the absurd valuations, and the fact that those sell-outs are awarded the privilege to hunt spots a REAL detectorist would kill for, I just can't br

Thanks, Ozzie. The 2 others I found were PAPER then...you could floss with them. They were also worn almost smooth. Yet, they ring up high tone with a silvery VID. This one on the other hand...
Is in MUCH better condition. However, the color is off, it doesn't ring up as silver on the VID, and the tone isn't that silver high squeak. Is it possible because there's less silver con

Guys, I've found two other reales before, both authentic. The one I found today, not so sure of. I'm leaning towards counterfeit.
I don't know how to upload pics, so, just click the link below. Now...
Is it possible a silver reale would come up as a copper VDI? There's no silver sound on my Safari, just copper sound & VDI when I pass the coin in front of the coil. Al

Michigan, I think you're 110% spot on in your assessments. To be fair though, the Gold wasn't half bad as a unit to help pick through iron. Dare I say, it was damn good. Outside of that though, didn't impress me much. I can't speak for others, only myself, and my thoughts on the AT line certainly wasn't comparing them to Minelab, Fisher or Whites, since they're nowhe

There's literally a ton of these types of units on the market, ex; Nokta, etc. Some work better than others, but, something to keep in mind...
These detectors aren't really made for 'everyday' type hunting. Generally speaking, these platforms are geared more towards searching for large caches, underground mines & so forth. They are very good (from what I've read) o

Guys, quick heads up, as I know we're all Fisher fanatics, and there's quite a few gold hunters on here. Someone just listed a mint condition Fisher Gold Strike. Not being a gold hunter myself, I don't have any knowledge of this detector, however, I heard they're hard to get, and are pretty good. So, might want to take a peek...

I used to be a pretty regular blackjack player. In most casinos, tables game winnings are only taxed on anything over $10,000. For example, if you won $12,000, and wanted to cash in your chips, you'd go to the cashiers cage, and they'd then tax that $12,000 at the appropriate rate. However, only a fool would do it this way. Instead, you take a small batch of chips up to be cashed in eve

Hahaha, kinda like going to the casino and dumping a few hundred in the slot machine & getting skunked. Then, you get up to leave, and some little old granny comes over & puts a crumpled up $1 bill in the machine...and hits the jackpot! Lol.

Here's a link with some great info, Jimmy Gotta tell ya...
I'd never heard about this model before this thread came up. Interesting idea! However, according to the posts in the link, one needs to hook the Depth Doubler up to about 20 rods, and then drive them into the soil to help charge the ground. Wow, that's insane. Would really limit the places one would be able to use the

Most of our spots here in the Northeast have been either filled over, or, have been pounded into oblivion. As an old coin hunter primarily, I can definitively say that one would be hard pressed finding a pre 1900 coin or relic shallower than say 7 or 8". So, depth trumps all for me in these parts. Now, in a few of my heavy iron sites, that's a different story...

Wanted to see what the overwhelming consensus is. This is a two part question...
1. Do you think more coins aren't found due to being shallow but masked, or deeper and thus out of range of current detectors?
2. If you were going to be stuck hunting a site for the next year with only one detector, would you rather be armed with a good unmasker, or a depth demon?
Here's my two ce

Well, I can only speak for myself & from my own experience. I absolutely get more depth when the ground is wetter, however, as you stated, HOW wet is the key to success
IMHO, the wetter the soil, the deeper you'll get, but, this comes with a major trade-off. The trade-off being what I call 'iron leaching'. Too wet and the iron on objects breaks apart & disintegrates int

That's awful...I'd be looking for blood if that happened to me! Caveat emptor = buyer beware You cannot always go just by lowest price. Heck, I've seen deals on craigslist, etc. with CTX's for $900, Etrac's for $500...
There's a difference between a good deal & one that's too good to be true. The only reason the black market exists, is because people buy

Count me in as one who runs with IA on all the time To be up-front, the gold is not my main unit. I use my Safari 95% of the time, as most of my spots have minimal iron, and of what there is, it's fairly spread out. I use the safari for depth. However...
In heavy thickets of iron, I actually enjoy running the gold in IA. Hard on the ears? For sure, but, the ears do get used to it, at lea
