I've surfed and fished off the beach for over 40 years now and have observed many factors that control water depth at any tide level. Wind and waves will push a lot of water onto the beaches, often times these two things (together or singularly) can completely override the effects of tide. The other thing as Tom mentioned, is a sand bar can build up or go away in just one tide change, this c

Ozzie, the only notes I have is what needed attention, apparently the salt mode had some issues with the nickel window and the zinc/high coin window being out of spec, which he reset. The other issue was the dirt that was inside, which is why I asked about covering the speaker grill on another post. He reports it will hit a clad dime at 12" now. I the only place I hunted so far was a home s

I tried hanging it directly on my belt and it tilted out a bit, and the bracket dug into my side a bit. I also wanted more protection from the elements, especially blowing sand at the beach.

First off, Tom thanks for the quick turnaround(4 days). I had a little time this morning for a short hunt and needed to try out the new hipmount setup anyway. The target ID ( meter and tones) is more accurate, and there is less wandering on the tones. I dug every repeatable tone(still learning this machine) and every square tab I dug was ID'd correctly. I haven't dug any deep coins yet

Hipmounted the CZ today, what a sweet setup, headphone cord is completely out of the way and this thing weighs less than my Vaquero. I could only hunt an hour today, but at this weight I think I could go for hours. I used an ammo pouch I got at the surplus store. Just had to punch a round hole in the bottom for the connector, it has loops for belt mounting. Total cost was $14, don't have a p

Lots of possibilities, fill dirt brought in high in iron content, lots of tabs, trash etc and of course a mix of good targets. I hunted a school that had shards of aluminum every where from the aluminum gutter system and tin shards from the roof. I think there was more metal in the dirt than on the building. It was pretty much unhuntable within 40' of the building.

I was going to cover the speaker opening on the Cz3D when using it at the beach, but have since found out Tom D found quite a bit of dirt and crud inside when he was running a cal on it. Would it be a problem keeping this opening sealed all the time??

If you just want a beep and dig, get a silver umax or Cibola. If you want a screen and don't mind having to GB, the F5 has a user friendly interface and is easy to learn.

Dan, I got (built) and better digger when I got the Vaquero. Going back this fall to a spot in the woods where there was a foundry nearby during the civil war. I have an unfinished dig, steel target that appears octagonal (about the correct dia for a rifle barrel), I had to leave due to rain. The vaquero hit it with a repeatable. barely audible signal, measured depth of 26". This area does

Sanbars form when ever sand is in motion, currents carry the sand and they are generated by tides and wave action. Sandbars consist of lighter weight material, most heavier things, ie, gold and silver will fall out into the guts when washed out.. Heavier things will also be carried down the beach with the current until it slows due to an obstuction, like a jetty or pier. At low tide look for wash

One of the main reasons I got a CZ3D was to hunt Texas beaches, many days we have onshore winds(lots of salt in the air) . Will internal corrosion on board lands and other componets be a problem over time? I plan on covering the speaker grill, should I cover the complete housing as well?

Thanks for the welcomes, I'm still playing with that new to me CZ, kinda getting a few things figured out, digging here in Texas is like chipping at concrete right now. Pasttom i've only been at this 4-5 years now, but sure have learned alot and have a long way to go to catch up with most on the forum. I have figured out I'm more of a tone hunter than a VID guy. I think it was the

I've been wanting to try a CZ3D or 21 for a while now, mainly for Texas beaches, but I also hunt parks, homesites and old plantation sites. Finally found a deal on a 3D(1021) and had to pull the trigger. I've been reading posts and articles here for a week and figured I'd better sign up so I can get some questions answered as they come up. Current other machines I use are a F5 an
