Folks, you are getting the rare privilege of seeing a major political party disintegrate right in front of your eyes. This hasn't happened in American politics since the Whig Party splintered over the issue of slavery. The fact that the Republican party was born from the Northern anti-slavery Whigs and went on to end slavery in America is pretty rich irony, but not nearly as rich as the Republican Party splintering over what amounts to the very same issue.

There's a whole lot that could be said about the state of the Republican Party, but this ain't the forum to do that, and I prefer not to discuss politics except with my closest friends (many of whom are Republicans). Just to say, grab a bag of popcorn and watch the show, cuz it's gonna be a doozy.

P.S. -- in the spirit of the thread topic, I'd like to see Bernie win, but he won't. It'll be Clinton & Trump, with the GOP making a desperate but unsuccessful move to block Trump; then Clinton will trounce Trump in the general. And if you think Republicans didn't want to work with Obama, watch the reaction to Clinton. And that, folks, is the beginning of the end.

Hopefully this thread will get shut down soon....but I have to tell this short true story of my first experience with racism.

I was 13 years old and my foster parents (aunt and uncle) and I traveled to Miami from Montreal. My aunt was European and uneducated and could not read English well. The water fountains were labeled white and black. She just drank from the closest fountain...which just happened to be labeled "black"....A white woman gasped and pointed to my aunt and told her she was drinking from the black fountain. My aunt looked up and just stated the water looked white to her. I was stunned and felt an overwhelming sadness.

I don't understand people who can claim to be religious, love God, love the bible and treat fellow human beings in such miserable, heartless ways.

PS: there is a difference between they're and their and also to and too ... I think you know who this is ... ignorance is sad too.

You think,,,their refers to persons as I correctly used.
In case you don't know they're means they are.
There is used as an adverb or to focus attention to a place or situation.
To and too,= wow

I said it a few pages back Geotech. This is the end of the Republican party. Every day it is like watching a very bad soap opera. Trump is going down in history as the man who drove a stake into the heart of the party. Last night was the end of Sanders. Now all Hillary has to do is keep her mouth shut and watch the implosion on the other side. I disagree with you on one thing though. I see the the Congress rolling over and not blocking anything. They have no unity. They have no party. They have no future. This country is heading for a major political change and it is just fascinating to watch. A while back I asked God to let the Steelers win one more Super Bowl before I die. I would trade that in a tenth of a second to watch the Republicans go down in flames. Ahhhhhh good times.

This is just an observation so don't get riled up. Keep in mind, I consider myself an average Joe,... just a hard working carpenter in the remodeling business...winding down.

The more intelligent, higher IQ acquaintances and friends I know are Republicans. The ones who are democrats, in my opinion don't have an exact reason for voting that ticket, they're vague in their reasoning, they don't make sense.... I have tried to understand and catch their drift.....maybe it's me?... nah.

Believe me, I am listening to you guys on here who are for the Clintons and the Sanders.....I really don't get how you guys reason.....It's like you don't think far enough ahead, I'll bet you never learned to play chess. lol

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work, because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation!

Well let's start with a very important topic to most Democrats and young voters. That would be climate change. The Republican candidates won't acknowledge it. They won't even admit it exists. In fact the leading candidate goes the other way and says he will shut down the EPA. So there is just one topic for you off the top of my head. Chess maybe not. The fate of man on the planet definitely. One more topic is the ability to keep the US out of BS Wars. While the current President has not lived up to a total withdraw of US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq he has done well to keep us out of other conflicts. If John McCain would have won the election how many Wars and.conflicts would we have been involved with? Most Democrats look at the treaty with Iran as something worth at least trying. Always give peace a chance. The Republican leading candidate stated I will bomb the @#$%& out them. So nothing new there. The party of war mongers. The unemployment numbers are half of what they were. Gas is way down. Times are good. The Republican candidates continue to use the phrase restore America. Restore to what? The Bush years? That would be check mate for doom.

Conservative Joe Scarborough wrote a great article today in the Washington Post on the state of affairs with the GOP today:

Donald Trump’s hostile takeover of the Republican Party

As tonight’s Super Tuesday’s results prove all too well to the Republican ruling class, Donald Trump has seized control of their Grand Old Party and has forever changed the way conservative candidates will run for president. The Manhattan billionaire has wiped out all competition on his own terms, offending and insulting every establishment figure within earshot and proving once again there is little they can do to stop him.

The fact Trump’s big night came just days after he balked at the chance to condemn the Ku Klux Klan suggests that there may be little that even Trump himself can do to stop this train.

Victories in Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Vermont and Georgia underscored just how weak the GOP establishment has become. Adding insult to injury were Ted Cruz’s modest success tonight and Marco Rubio’s continued disappointment.

Pulitzer Prize winning historian Jon Meacham says Trump’s takeover of the Party of Reagan has no precedent in American history: “Donald Trump has managed to hijack an entire political party, and the pilots are asking why no one is on their side. The passengers are cheering for the guy who took over the plane.”

Meacham believes Trump’s hostile political takeover is unlike any other uprising in the past century. Henry Wallace, Strom Thurmond, George Wallace and Ralph Nader all launched failed insurgency bids from within their own parties, but those bids collapsed before they evolved into outside independent campaigns.

Trump’s takeover bid is different not only because he is succeeding, but also because the former Hillary Clinton supporter has swooped in from the outside and taken over America’s conservative party much like corporate raider Carl Icahn seized control of TWA in the mid-80s, stripped it of its assets and remade the airline in his own image.

Unless Donald Trump manages his hostile takeover of a bitterly divided Republican Party better than his friend handled TWA’s dissolution, Meacham’s belief that George W. Bush may be the last Republican to be elected to the White House could turn out to be the most lasting legacy of this surreal 2016 campaign
    .

Why should I listen to Trump, when I can turn on the History Channel and hear it in the original German? But that is what the GOP has degenerated into: a bunch of yahoos giving straight-armed salutes to a fascist con man I've noticed the Pubs didn't discuss Cybersecurity, infrastructure, federal and student debt, foreign policy with China, N. Korea and the Middle East in last Thursday's debate. They deal in insults and trash talk...nothing more. Well, there's another debate tomorrow.

I smell Mitt Romney appearing at a brokered GOP convention in the summer...

Some things to point out.

Who do the Republican candidates keep referring to in their talk???

Ronny right??

Why??

My point is who is the Republican leader???

Ole GW and Cheney both vansihed, correct.

We saw something similar back in 1976--- where their was a void of leadership.

This void is certainly not Trump's fault.

Would it be a fair statement to say what has brought this on is actually a previous failed president?? Or actually 3 failed presidents??

GW, HW, and ole Nixon.

I think it is always a risk too, to put a running mate on a President's ticket who is infact older than they.

All the symptoms for this current situation have been staring the party in the face-- they just weren't smart enough to see or figured " just" a bandaid would fix-- like ole Jeb.

But the American people saw right through that.

We will have to sit back and watch.

But there could be one silver lining here.

If Trump does actually defeat Clinton---- he will undoubtably be one of the greatest politicians this country has ever seen.

And remember Ms Clinton has done lost one national campaign, Trump hasn't.

My last post in this thread is this.

I don't know how the election is going to shake down in the end. I personally think this will be one of the biggest election turnouts in a long time. Usually people I work with are more concerned about things like who is making the playoffs or Super Bowl kind of stuff. This go around the topic has been this election. There is a rumble in the Force and I think people are just tired of career politicians and the looking for something different instead of the same ole same ole. I do shake my head in disbelief at one important thought that I will leave you with.

320 MILLION people in the United States....and THESE are the best of what we have to choose from? There isn't a single one of them with the qualities of a leader.

> Donald Trump’s hostile takeover of the Republican Party

Not in the least. Trump is a direct product of the GOP rhetoric machine that has been firing on all cylinders for the past 10 years, and amplified by the Rushseanglenn show. All Trump is doing is clearly enunciating what had been a little more thinly veiled in the past. If GOP leaders don't like what they got, then they got nothing to complain about other than being bad cooks.

You see another reason the electorate seems is behind Trump.

Remember ole Romney--- the establishment didn't have a problem with him did they.

But Romney was a businessman who seemed to prey on businesses in trouble--- buy them, then part them out.

And his getting caught talking about the 47% was not a political discussed division--- seen more by most folks to be a class of people discussion.

And to see photos of him with money virtually flowing out if his suit pockets.

So see the electorate is indeed confused--- they don't trust the establishment.

Why should they??? I mean consider the fact the candidates they have gotten behind since 1992 --- have really been losers,,, no outright clear wins at the national level.

This possible disintegration of the party is only one body's fault--- the establishment.

Sometimes in life--- one does have to take one or two steps back before proceeding to become successful.

And remember even the House of Representatives--- doesn't truly reflect the USA politically.....gerrymandering

So the establishemt has been peddling stuff the overall electorate doesn't buy or beleive in.

When a faction of government is seen as being rigged---- political war is indeed imminent ... Will happen sooner rather than later.

This article helped me relax a little more. Trump does NOT have any strong support from the voters...because in the primaries something like 4% of eligible voters actually vote. His "APPARENT" success will be completely nullified in the general election when the enlightened majority votes! (IMHO)

It's as simple as this. If a Democrat gets elected, you can kiss our national sovereignty goodbye.

They want open borders and they are getting it. Wait til we start taking in significantly more so called refugees from the middle east.

Hillary loves what Obama has done and has said so. Bernie has articulated his plan for the future and it include plenty of new taxes levied on the already struggling and disappearing middle class.

Before my father passed away last summer he expressed how he was happy that he wouldn't have to live through the mess that was coming.

This country's youth and the socialists holdovers from the sixties have firmly inserted their collective heads up their behind and can't hear reason anymore. They are suicidal and are going to take this entire country down with them.

It will be a OK John. The Democrats just see things differently than you. We still love the country and want nothing more than to see it succeed. This current President has protected the US very well. Much better than the one he replaced. I believe there will be a path to citizenship. Maybe through serving in the military or doing some other sacrificial duties for the good of the country. In the end it will all work out. We need to stay positive .

Climate change=2030 Agenda. It's coming and forget about representation or accountability. Definitely forget about any kind of freedoms we enjoy now. Vote for liberals and they will surely hasten the day this is a reality. Remarkable. Under the guise of "saving the planet", they will abolish the constitution. As I mentioned before, you need to study the 2030 Agenda to find out where all this is headed. Unanimously passed at UN because all leaders know it will give them unprecedented power the world has never seen. All that is needed is leaders and media to parrot this nonsense so everyone will take it hook, line and sinker. Our leader came back from the Paris talking up about the big problem of climate change and we need to do something about it. Don't take my word for it, look it up.

There is a path. Right through our southern border. It's wide open.

I'm positive that it will only take one more Dem to do irreparable harm to this nation if it's not already irreparably harmed. They don't have a better vision for this country, at least not one they can articulate.

I can't conceive a reality where this is not perceivable in most people's eyes. It takes a level of deniability I didn't think was possible. I never believed a person could successfully lie to themselves but I stand corrected.

DirtyJohn, exactly the way I see it....said it in my last post, but not so eloquently.

Goodmore, I do agree on some of your points.

Climate change (natural occurrence) use to be global warming(BS). EPA does need to be put back in their cage.

Chess - to defeat your opponent you have to have the ability to think several moves ahead.

War,.... is horrible, period. I do not see the need to reach that far into other countries business. But, we do not know all that goes on behind the scenes.
Giving peace a chance, here here....what do you do when there are countries that have been war mongers for centuries and they want to develop nuclear weapons? Oh, I'll add, they !!!!(((HATE)))!!!! us.

Unemployment #s, The admin uses their own formula to make the numbers appear like they are doing good, BS and slight of hand nonsense.

Gas prices are down, that does help....but with the dollar so weak (Feds)...the price of everything else under the sun has skyrocketed.

Restoring America....think back way before the 90's.....Meaning back when we produced and manufactured.....when foreign goods were second rate to US....we were booming. We were excited. We were dreaming!! We were smiling and laughing!! We were saving. We were working and loving it !!
Now all I do is worry that a shining star of a country will be a thing of the past, never to be there again. You say not to worry...ain't easy McGee.

Government is not there to make life fair. Its says the pursuit of happiness not the provision. The inevitable corruption of power ruins all the lovely dreams of utopia. The obscene skimming off of funds, cronie contracts and wielding the power of the State to decimate opposition must not be tolerated or facilitated.

We probably disagree wildly on so many things outside our narrow focus on detecting.

But in this narrow channel we have shared so much and learned so much.

Let us not cast that aside by widening our focus to include issues, while important, we have no common focus on.

Support who you will - for whatever reasons you will - but let is not permit divisions on the political level spoil our topical community.

Thanks for reading.
