Cheapest Usable Metal Detector

What is everyone opinion of the cheapest usable metal detector out there...new or used? The Tesoro Compadre comes to mind and maybe the Ace 150.

If the operator will put the coil over a target the cheapest detector will reward him/her. You won't be sitting in first class, but you will be on da plane.

You either do not have a DEUS or you do not know how to use it.

The steel bottle cap will be all over the VDI especially if it's rusty.

Now the aluminum screw top...that's a different story and trouble for any machine.

That's the same as a BH jr except the Jr is smaller. We have a junior and it is amazing for the price. The only thing is it doesn't have a headphone jack.

Discrimination is the root of all evil.

Well aluminiun screw caps are not a problem to the Whites V3i if you know how to program it. Here in OZ there are screw caps that land right on our $2 coin and the same with the $1. Once programed and put into a seperate program you dont get any screw caps. A different matter with the E-Trac and a lot of other beepers as you cant get rid of them.

I had the V3i, for quite awhile and it was a good machine. I spent a lot of time with the various programs and programming it.

However, programming out the aluminum screw cap (and that is a BIG block of numbers), also is going to eliminate your larger gold rings and zinc penny's (no big loss) and older coins and relics especially in the brass range.

I was detecting an old home (front yard), I was using one a Fisher F5 or some such. My buddy, the one that owns the house......was using a Bounty Hunter that cost about 99 bucks. he found 3 Indian heads while I was over there swinging and grumbling like Yosemite Sam!!! LOL!!! (not really grumbling.......I actually patted on him his back after each find. The pats on the back got a bit harder each time, though). Anyway, I was freakin impressed!!!! I ALMOST bought a B.H. but decided against it. After all, my friend was hunting the sidewalk that went from the front door out to the road. I started inching towards him.

Well for us here in Australia cherry picking $1 & $2 dollar coins is a good spinner to get some fast dosh as with gold rings they are gettable if you have them accepted in to the program. Its horses for courses it depends what you are looking for on the day. My very best day was $165 dollars and at one oval in a few weeks $2500 and still finding them their.

Used Compadre, a ton of bang for the buck. Turn the disc all the way up, max, and dig mostly coins only. A lot of people don't realize that. However you won't dig any nickels.
Re: Cheapest Usable Metal Detector

Hey Jack, thats the Tesoro disc for ya! Years ago,a bunch of us from the Kinzli California forum got together at the ghetto park I mentioned to you before. While we where swinging our minelabs trying for old silver,I set my then 8 yr old son up with a silver umax and cranked the disc all the way. This place is referred to as "Wino park" for good reason...and he shocked me pulling about $5 in quarters/dimes from screw cap hell! Ray
