We'll never know until you put your hands on it. It's probably like the F75... capable at the default 'reset' setting but improved with a bit more gain.
It would be disappointing to need many hours on it just to be able to run it through a test. But you know some will say that you didn't adjust the preamp gain sufficiently, or the recovery speed was set too slow, or.

You know it's just a matter of time Tom. You'll need to get one of these Visions, have and experienced user 'hop it up' and give it a run in your test bed.

... so an elliptical coil inherently has a tighter/smaller/narrower footprint than an identically designed round coil?

Do you have a testbed with known deep targets? It's more fun to do it in the field but the complexity due to potential masking makes the DATA somewhat suspect.

Good luck.
I'd only like to see some DATA taken with a Vision and F75 over some known deep and complex targets. It would be great if your Vision buddy could support you.

But that will be a cold day in hell. I figure I'll have to buy a used unit within the year and test it myself, then resell it for minimum loss.

It was very interesting to see how the moderator pulled my first question related to testing the Vision under difficult "complex" conditions. Quite obviously, he had a commercial interest behind stifling any DATA that might put the Vision in a poor light. Many of the folks who bought the Vision are very passionate about the Whites brand and are a bit defensive about folks, like me,

Thanks Tom!
I'm a bit anal with my test bed and go there often to 'recalibrate' or figure something out that I don't understand.
I can't believe all the backlash I've gotten over at the Find's Vision forum asking them to perform some simple tests in the ground. It seems that the phrase "test bed" is some type of assault on their religion!

If I'm coin shooting at a park or school I hunt DISC=6 and 4-tone or DISC=15 and 4-tone if the iron is extremely bad.
It fatigues me to hear all the chatter at DISC=0.
Just my 2-cents...

In my test bed I have a silver dime that has been buried at 6" for 8 years. My other silver has been buried for a few months. Longer buried targets are easier to detect compa

I need to build one more 'complex' test bed scenario burying 4 rusty nails 1" underground equadistant around a circle with a 8" radius having a silver dime buried 4" in the center.
Got it?
That might show a bigger difference between the two coils vs having only one nail and one dime.

I posted this thread on the Finds forum and think I'll continue posting my results here.

I have a test best setup with a silver dime buried at 6", 7" and 8". I tested both the 5" DD and the 4x6 concentric yesterday using my F75 setup in JE mode, 6 disc, 4 tone, 75 sens. My soil GBs at 60 with .01/.03 Fe.
Both coils easily detect the 6" dime but the

Yes, I duplicated the same thing with my F75. If fact, it occurs at any SENS setting 88 or higher.
Is this done by design for any particular reason?

My F75 hums with the small elliptical concentric coil but chirps with either of the DD coils.
I actually like the hum background rather than the chirping.

I just ordered the 5" DD and will put it to test against my 6" elliptical in my test garden. My garden is very simple:
Nickel @ 4"
Zinc Penny @ 4"
Silver Dime @ 6"
Silver Dime @ 7"
Silver Dime @ 8"
Nail @ 45 degree angle buried 1", 6" away from a silver dime buried @ 4"
Bottle cap @ 3"
GB @ 55, FeO3 @ 0.03 (2" decent dirt an

Just watched the video for the 2nd time last night. My takes:
Pros:
- Tom is one of the most enthusiastic TECHNICAL detectorists out there. Kudos for him taking the time to tape the 11+ hours of detecting and putting it together into a cohesive 90 minute package.
- Like Tom, I detect nearly 100% by audio alone using my F75, and his obvious success only reinforces the method. I don

Sounds like a great asset for the F75! I'm encouraged that you like it. I've really liked the concentric DD, especially the way it tears up bottle caps. When you get a chance tell us how this new coil reacts to steel bottle caps. That skill is not easily learned using the stock coil.
