Here in the Upstate of SC, we've had virtually no rain since June, as we've had the 4th worst drought since 1898. Consequently, you can't dig more than 1" in our hardpacked clay.
Waiting for rain...

Were the 'deep signals' dug and proved to be actual good targets? If I crank up

The F75 ergonomics and controls layout is superb! I only wish it had less chatter and a volume amplification for weak signals, like the Explorer.

Another thing that discourages me about the V3 is the fact that most users say that they need to significantly tweek the unit to get the best performance. Unlike my EXII where performance is pretty close to 100% using a mainly open screen, or the F75 where you just turn the sensitivity knob, the V3 appears to require much more tuning. So a 1st time user could never give it a fair test because t

Nothing against Tom, but I'd like to make my own decision based on my own testing in my own test garden. Of course Tom's opinion would influence me as to if I would get the unit in the first place. There are still differences in swing style, hearing ability, menu structure, ergonomics, etc., that might have me go in a different direction than Tom. In fact, I'm still torn between

Working a test bed is one of three test scenarios that can provide information that cannot be gleened by another method.
1) Air tests: Provides some determination of maximum sensitivity at depth and allows limited feel for changes in performance (tone/VDI) based on user adjustments. Obviously, this is very easy and quick to perform. EMI problems found in the basement/house/garage can disrup

Yes, a quarter buried at 6", fresh or not, should be easily seen by any mid/high range unit swinging the coil in ANY direction. I suspect that the area may not have been 'sanitized' before the burial of the coins.

Here's the first report of a V3 against an Explorer/Etrac/Soverign and a T2 with the 5" DD coil. Very surprising results!
Better view it soon before it gets pulled!

I'd be very interested to see how both detectors react when a nail is buried 1" deep, then bury a silver dime 4" away and 4" deep. I begged for some test info over at the Vision Findmall site but only got into an academic discussion regarding the 'worth' of test beds. Geez...

Wingnut, do you have a F75?

Tom, I know you're busy with that SPACE stuff, but it's time for a F75 video.

People ask what they want of the next F75... how about industry leading EMI protection maybe an order of magnitude improved over what is currently available? That would require a coordinated engineering effort involving material shielding and circuit design. This would be a worthy undertaking that, if successful, would warrant a new model designation even if all functions were left unchanged.

I live in the Upstate of SC and my earth is solid red clay under an inch or so. I've done considerable testing of my Explorer II against my F75 and have found that the EXII gives equal depth to the F75 but better ID capability for deep copper and silver. The moisture conditions play a big role and I also find the F75 degrades on ID capability as the ground dries at a faster rate compared t

I have red clay also in the Upstate of SC and I find that my F75 has depth equal to my Explorer II in moist soil. I need to retest tonight in dry soil as we haven't had much rain in th

Tom, is the Tek Omega more stable compared to a Minelab Explorer? I've always considered my Ex II to be the pinnacle of stability (nulling?) in iron infested areas.

Build a complex (nails & coin) target and you'll be ready to go! I seem to spend most of my time on my two complex targets vs. my cleanly buried silver.

I have no need for both. After I test more in All Metal/Motion mode this weekend, I will sell one. From what I've seen so far, both coils act very similar, with the 5"DD being marginally shallower and having marginally better separation only due to it's smaller geometry.

You might want to bury a silver dime at 6", 7" and 8" to see how changes affect the response of your detector at depth. In my red clay soil of SC, I can only barely see the 8" dime using my F75 and Explorer II with high sensitivities. When conditions are very dry, the dime is lost until the ground gets wet again.

I tried DISC=6, Mode-DE, Tone=Mono and got the exact same results as above using the 5"DD or 4x6", that is, I could only see the target within a +/- 10 degree sweep window. The 5"DD produced a good 2-way audio tone and the 4x6" produced a good 1-way
