I agree with you gman, 'to do the job right, you have to use the right tool'. Old shop teacher saying. :]
My 75 needs repair, the PP/FG/F switch is bad. I've been using my 1021 since purchasing it a couple months ago. The SE I borrowed has been leaning against the wall collecting dust. Jeez, that reminds me, I better go pull the battery pack out of it.

I'm seeing the same things Joe and I agree with you about the percent rule. I've done 360's around a target with all high tones and to find a 10" deep nail in the side, always in the side of the hole. I did try the "flick" and the high turns to a low, is that proven? I'll have to work on that theory.
Wow Tom! that's nice to know. It's pretty neat t

I paid $700 for a brand new never used 1021 a few months ago. It's been sitting in a dealers store many years, a little ma and pop detector store. I saw it there when I purchased my f-75 four years ago, been eyeing it ever since. Finally broke down and bought it. He was asking $800. Glad I got it.
With all the top name detectors he has surrounding him, he only uses the cz6a for inland, as

I didn't know about it. I also don't like spraying DW Off on the skin. I spray it on my hat, clothing and boots. Thanks JJ ! Going to check it out.

Thats funny you say that Tom.
Today I was on a property where the GB on the 3d was wide. I could rotate the knob a half a digit + (while pumping the coil) and the sound was steady, or ground ballanced....does that mean the soil is mild?
The area I was detecting in the above post (yesterday) was the opposite. A fraction of a digit either way would push the sound or pull it from the ground an

One thing I noticed about the 3d is; the GB has to be on the money. I use the 10.5" coil mostly. I can now tell when it needs to be checked. It will predomimantly high false or it will; low tone more than usual with very little high falses. If it's an equal ratio it is still set correctly. When it does either I check it and it always needs to be re-set. It may only be half a click, but

Yea Dan, I'm getting the hang of my 3d. I don't hear those subtle differences in the high iron tones vs the high coin tones. Maybe I need to concentrate more. Wife says to get my hearing checked, I said you already told me it's off, should I get a second opinion? Just shakes her lovely head.
I did find a large cent today, loud and clear 1830 Matron Head 8" deep.I can read l

Very interesting John, about the melittin and arthritis, I need to look that up for further information as I think arthritis is in my near future.
LeggoHead, very sensitive area with women, the weight I mean. My son and I got a laugh from your remark to your wife......"subjects to avoid".

That is one thing about the cz that bugs me also. The coil reads out the sides and has me sweeping unecessarily....Little one inch nails 8+ inches down I get high tones 90% around the target. After I get my 75 serviced, I'll send the cz to Tom, it may need a little tweaking.

Jeez Kieth, that's a lot of stings. I got hit a couple weeks ago on the shins, but only by a half dozen of them. There stings come with a little pain behind them and lasts days, don't know how you handeled 86 at once.
Hope you didn't get skunked that day also :]

Sounds like a Star Wars Battle.
I wonder if courses can be taken with that machine...Yikes !
Pretty neat though.
I'd like to see how it seperates, didn't see anything on it.
I think there is a lot there for the price.

We did loose a few trees in a domino effect nearly missing the parked cars. My son found an old bottle in one of the rootballs. The biggest tree was a shagbark hicory that was weakened by carpenter ants as it snapped 3 feet up from the base. As it fell it took out two smaller ones blocking the driveway. Looking at it positively, the woodshed gets filled up a bit more.
My reasoning as to why w

It would be interesting to know how much lead gets into water naturally. I know of an old lead mine about 3 miles from me. It is said the Lennape Indians made trinkets and jewelry from it and it was also mined for the Rev and Civil War projectiles. They also said they had trouble mining it because of it flooding (next to or in the creek). It was filled in long ago and is now under a man made lake

I would love to have the knowledge to be able to "soop up" my cz or any other detector.
Tom, is there a big risk when you modify a detector? If you make a mistake (screw up), do you know, in the back of your mind you can easily fix the mistake, no matter what or how bad it was?
Maybe the parts are the issue?
What is it about the "depth" and why cant it be adjusted?

Tom told us a good story about an earth magnet, I'll sum it up from memory. It was in an old post.
He had it in his jean pocket and when getting into his vehicle it stuck to it thru the jeans. He was hanging there and had to ask a some guys to help him get unstuck. Now that's funny.
Small point I'm trying to make is; these magnets have a lot of power in them. Always know wher

I live in Southeast Pa. about 30 miles north of Philadelphia. It's about 11:10 am and it started spritzen rain and getting breezy. They predict we will get 50mph winds with gusts to 70mph. I should have gone out early to detect when it was just cloudy.
I did hit a new spot yesterday with my cz and found my first silver, 'with that machine'. Just a 1930 merc about 5" deep. I

Don't forget to have him do a noise cancel next to your machine. You will hear the SE through your headphones selecting a freq. You may want to push the pinpoint while he is canceling. Can't hurt.

JeffNS, So, where in Nova Scotia are you, just longitude and lattitude would suffice.
That will keep you busy. The letter was a nice touch. The manager may be as exicited as you. Can't wait to read your posts.

Just two and a borrowed one. A big collection would look pretty cool, neatly displayed, nice lighting, hanging on a wall. Have a few nice coins and relics found by the machine also on display under the detector with a spec sheet and some notes.......my wife would book me into the funny farm.

to have this forum. It's important to have something to look forward to so the daily grind dosen't get to you. My daily routine is rise early, let out the dog, put on the coffee, feed the dog, cook my eggs, eat, then sit down in my easy chair with my laptop and go to Tom Dankowski's Metal Detecting Forum and hope there are a big list of posts. After that, read a bit of my book of c
