I never thought of the treasure being hidden even from the last owner or owners, so guess my answer would be to see if can be proved who actually owned it first before decide... nice to be in tthat situation though. I once found a gold coin worth approx. 400 dollars in a thrift store people were looking at a gold coin in their hands and then passed it on to me.
The price was 9.99 for a gold look

What do you predict will come next, pulltabs, nickels, gold often read the same. The older I get I sure can not dig every signal it's often a tradeoff.
Can the present technology that costs tens of thousands ever be affordable on a hobby detector? I beleive there are instruments that can analise gold content, real or fake diamonds.
If the holy grail of detectors was invented would money to p

Yes agree with doing more research, I have made clear map templates of older maps and overlayed on top of newer maps to see in a glance if the old parks are still around, been away from hunting awhile but may get back in to it.
A quick and easy fix for finding old coins as many are aware here is, just look for old buildings and try to hunt the front city part street grass strips often yields a

Many may have read this before, but a few summers ago I was coin shooting near a high school, well to my surprise I received a radio station on my Ace detector,,
Detector seems ok works ok when not near that area..lot and lot of weird stuff happens while metal detecting.
One year was hunting near a forest by a parking lot, well again to my surprise there were finds scattered all over the area

It is one of my best finds, it was found in a park that is hunted often, the reason found this coin was because was near a tree that likely was virgin ground.
I dug a few other vintage coins but this was the grand surprise, close to a key variety but no cigar.. HH

Look toward the light to me must mean focus on silver coins, you know..when you dig up any old silver coin how "shiny" it is in the light, well that or else flunked out of bible school
I must admit I kind of enjoy a few battle royal afterall no one really gets hurt except their ego, don't sweat the small stuff life goes on..

Interesting points that never came to mind, thanks for the replies. Living in a big city does get to be a challenge finding new spots.
I mainly focus on vintage coin hunting, we have ton's of beach to hunt but just find hunting old fields, parks, demo lots more fun.

But anyone in the hobby knows its location, location, location... true knowing how best to use a detector can't hurt but location is number one, you need old land to find old stuff.
Once in a blue moon a vintage coin may show up unexpected but that is the exception not the norm, location first. HH
So when location drys out that's when the technical side comes to play, I have always

Not that it helps...but anyone that has been on any type of forum knows that these clash issues always pop up and clear up.... I have seen very long lasting metal detecting forums in the past just close shop with trolls and spamming.

As noted by a few posters the best way to control unwanted posts is just not to reply, but were human and that is often not going to work, for the record I will stick to the metal detecting threads or any thread that is routine.
I have other hobbies at the moment so detecting has gone to the back burner, I do own a few good detectors but just gathering dust. I live in a modern city and is gett

No one mentioned that it is risky to sell anything on Ebay, for instance a buyer can say not as described and get's refund, a buyer can reverse a credet card and gets a refund, so best to sell only what you could possibly afford to loose, but for the most part Ebay is safe . Don't even attempt to sell unless you have a record of buying first.
