Another couple of "firsts" for me.....a Civil War rifle trigger guard, in two pieces......but still close to one another, and an Enfield Bullet (dropped) with the wooden plug. The hot weather, and other factors have kept me from detecting for a couple of months up until yesterday. So I was even more pleased. I was using the Makro Racer with GAIN set at 85 and all other settings at fact

A 20 khz Makro Racer would be nice to try, if there was such a thing. It would be awesome on cuff buttons and small brass relics. Need higher frequency (between 19 and 15 khz) plus depth. And at a good mid-point price. I really think that it would be nice.

Congrats on the find, Lowboy. Hope it turns out to be gold. Personally, if gold isn't in the form of a coin, then I am numbered among the uninformed. Hope it goes well for ya. kevin

I wish that I had kept my Deeptech Vista Gold that I purchased when they first came out. It could hit a 12 inch nickel in my dirt. It would have been a button getter.

My third one is already acting weird and won't switch on unless I unscrew the back cover a half turn. Sometimes it just beeps while holding it in the air. I may try another brand.

One of the ears on my 11 inch Racer coil broke. I called the place in Massachusetts to see how they would handle it. They promptly sent me a new coil and it had thicker ears.

I owned/used one for a few months and I must say, that except for it's lack of substantial depth, it is a good relic hunter. I much prefer that it would have an 11 inch DD coil instead of the 10 inch DD coil. You'll gain an extra inch or inch and a half . The Teknetics G2-Plus is an F-19 only it already comes with the 11 inch coil. I have always been a fan of the Tek G2. A G2-Plus

I am having the same issue. I hunt at a site that is nothing but woodland. It has produced for me all Spring and pretty well everytime that I would detect it. The last two times.......nothing. But I DO speculate that there has not been a coil over every quarter inch of this land so that is my goal. To cover this campsite from proverbial "wall to wall" until every piece of metal (fer

There is one Ultimate 13 inch coil that is supposed to fit all of these units (Omega, G2, F19, the other greek series) and yet there is a wide difference between the operating frequencies of the Teknetics Omega and the Teknetics G2. Is it really possible that one coil can work on so many different machines: ........machines that operate at 19 khz,........and 7 khz.
I know that the Minelab 7

To be totally candid......I quite enjoy a good pat on the back ever so often myself. And I like patting backs. I always go out of my way to congratulate any of my hunting buddies who find something when we are hunting. I know that they are feeling good and congratulating them makes them feel even better. It's a hobby. A fun thing. And it's even funner when hunting with a buddy. Hav

@NCWayne: I enjoy posting pics of my finds. I equally enjoy seeing pics of other forum members finds. But I was accused of fishing for "pats on the back" a while back. So I stopped. (Unless I need a piece ID'd).
But I am going to pics of my Spring and early Summer finds anyway.......in spite of the one's who loathe it. I don't need or want pats on the back. Bu

As soon as the floor dries I will post some pics. I bought this XP Deus brand new from JMT Detectors on June 24 2015. It has the WS-4 (backphone) headset and the control box. 11 inch coil. recharging cables...etc etc etc. It's a good deal on a practically new Deus. You'll be ready for the upgrade.
Just getting too hot and miserable out there for me. I'll arrange everything b

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I do wish that I could afford a CTX. I really think that it would penetrate my hunting ground really well.......and with with all of those frequencies .........man, I bet that it would open that site up. There were alot of gold dollars found in this site. (not by me).
When it is all said and done.....I reckon i simply need to get my coil OVER a butt

Here lately, I have been all hung up on buying a high-frequency (19 khz or higher) metal detector for use in the Large Civil War confederate camp that I am currently detecting. I am presently using a Makro Racer (13 khz?). I realize that there are alot of Civil War relic hunters that are members of this forum. Have you found a detector that is particularly good at finding CW buttons. I alw

Glad y'all are getting some rain there. Here in Southwest Tennessee, we are getting none. It's making it increasingly more difficult to detect. Even in the woods. The ground seems harder in the wood this year, The trees must be sapping the ground dry. And dry ground is certainly not the ideal conditions for detecting. Good luck and Happy Detecting. kevin

I have put several hours on my Racer now and have found a J-Hook (my first), a Kepi hat buckle (my first) and oodles and gobs of Civil War bullets. Using the 11 inch and the 15 inch coils. But I HAVE noticed that my button finds have decreased. Now, this could be because the buttons have been hunted out. (But how did they leave behind so many bullets and other stuff?)
So, for you folks

I sold my '75. I have been using the Makro Racer all spring. With good success. I dug a General Service cuff button with the Racer (back in the Spring) and the ID number was 69. But I've got a 'bee in my bonnet' about having a higher frequency unit. Maybe the Tejon? I've never owned a Tesoro......but mainly cause I like a hi tone for non-ferrous and lo tone for fer

Thanks, SkiWhiz, for that info. I had heard something about changes that Deeptech had made. I also heard that they might have turned the gain down a bit to quieten the unit. Seems like everytime one comes up for sale......it gets scarfed up before I can make my mind up.....lol.
Really, I am looking for any good, high-gain, high frequency unit for the purpose of detecting for Civil War b
