Yes, we all have!

Not only that, Monte’s one the nicest guys you’ll ever do business with.

Incredibly sweet human being.

Actually just purchased a couple machines from him, one I’ve been trying to find for years, in original beautiful working condition, the rare G.P. masterpiece, Mk 1 LTD

Thanks again Monte!

If you dont like it dont click on it . It is that SIMPLE! You guys need to go start a monte's my hero thread and get off my AT Gold thread with that crap. I have always tried to show him respect because he is a ole timer but when he came over pretending to know my motives for the reason I do what I do, well he crossed the line with that crap. Judging someone by what they type on the internet about a stinking plastic metal detector...……...give me a break!

Maybe you would be more welcome on other detecting forums if you dialed back your attitude a bit Calabash!!

Monte forgot more than you will ever known about the hobby. He has developed friendships and respect across the forums for many years. Your ignorant attitude and posts will only continue to isolate you on the forums. I can't wait until you quit this forum too. Where to next? Maybe your own forum? With one other member. TSS. Hahahahah. I know who your hero is.......YOU!

Glad to see I made your list Goodmore.
We’ll call it Sharpshooter derangement syndrome. Hahahahahaha!!!

You know this thread really is related somewhat to something I have mentioned on this forum before.
What exactly?
Actual coil time over ground.

Calabash is sweeping a detector coil. Lots of others here reading and typing due to weather/ground conditions.

So when one speaks of time in years detecting.
The data supplied can be very misleading.

Calabash and the fine folks who live in Florida make this point nicely.

Have a nice day Goodmore. Remember you can always watch fake news and cheer yourself up.

Re: AT GOLD GOOD IN IRON?? COMPARED TO WHAT?

In my opinion, time spent swinging a coil is just one part of the equation in the overall enjoyment of this hobby.

Shoot, there were times I was beach hunting and spent hours swinging and didn't find a thing, yet the time spent enjoying the sights and sounds, talking to other hunters on the beach, making new friends, is part of the fun. In addition, reading about others adventures and their finds, bantering about on the forums...all part of the fun.

When a person posts condescending garbage about while others are sitting on their butt, I am out finding stuff, it just cracks me up. The person has no clue what the others may or may not be doing or if they can't even hunt due to the weather. So the next best thing to stay in the game is research, reading, getting on the forums. But hey, if it is just all about the finds and rubbing it in other peoples faces for some, that's cool.I like looking at pictures of silver coins.

I tend to take in the entire picture when it comes to this great hobby and the stuff I find is secondary to the other things this hobby has to offer.

All of the facets that this great “treasure hunt” has to offer has always been fascinating to me,and IMO all “true hunters” have something engrained in them that compels them to become better at what they do. Research, obtaining better equipment for their purposes, learning ALL they can about increasing their chances of a good find...all of it. Even though a lot of us are snowed in or frozen out right now,it’s weighing heavily on our minds that we flat out CANNOT hunt in our respective areas. I am actually going to take the CTX out in a bit and log Findpoints so I can dig these targets later, but that’s as far as I can take it. The forums can get a little squirrelly right about now, so I’m taking it outside....no matter what it takes.

Calabash,

I will agree with you that one can certainly spend a lot of time armchair detecting, reading through detecting forums and watching YouTube videos. It's snowing hard and fast in my neck of the woods and unless I take a good drive I won't be detecting for a bit. So I have a few minutes to share some thoughts.

That said, I wouldn't expect Monte to be telling a GoPro to "stop recording" anytime soon. Monte will call you on the phone, or send you an email and invite you out hunting. He'll have you bring friends if you like. He will take you along to his personal detecting spots to help you find your first seated coin. He will invite you over for a visit or stop by your place if he's somewhere close. He will answer your questions and share his experiences. He will sit down to test and compare detectors and settings and coil combinations for hours and hours. He will help you with your settings or sweep technique or recovery methods or location selections or whatever else you may need help with. He will talk detector selection and share his opinions, and he does have opinions. He will walk along with you out in a ghost town telling you where different items have been found over the decades and make suggestions of where you might have your best luck if you've never been there before.

Some 30-35 years ago I was in Montes front room doing some detector testing and comparisons. Monte was spending much of his time in the old ghost towns digging 1850-1890 era coins and tokens. I was spending most of my time door knocking and hunting the yards of old homes from the 1900's - 1940's. Monte was showing me the Pro's and con's of my detector selection and comparing them to a new kid on the block, Tesoro. My detector, which did a nice job in the places I was hunting, couldn't hold a candle to the Tesoro as soon as we got a few nails out and slipped a coin in amongst them. All he needed way back then was a GoPro and a YouTube channel and he could have been up and running just like you.

But Monte typically doesn't go out on the offensive, quite the contrary. He will share his opinion, tell you how he acquired his opinion and why it works for him and let you make your own choice, like any good teacher would do.

Congrats on the Half-Dime. That's a nice find.

Rich (Utah)

Just one more good target before I go.

Some of the best performing detectors aren't all that fun to use and I detect to have a good time so I use detectors that are both effective and fun to use. After reading this long thread, it's clear to me that certain people try and paint themselves as above it all, but I know better. I can't wait to read Monte's honest thorough opinion about the Teknetics T2+ because it's on my radar to purchase. If someone has a good used one for sale, shoot me a PM.

I'm looking forward to Montes report on the T2+ also Gerald.-----He will give a fair, unbiased evaluation on it (as he does on all detectors).-----We are very fortunate to have Monte in our midst.thumbs down

Hey Calabash,

When you find hundreds of Spanish silver coins from the 1700's and several Spanish gold coins from the 1700's let me know. Don't believe me. Do some research on Findmall on just one of the pics I posted a few years back (I may have posted the pic on here as well). Hunters from NJ who were on that beach know what I am talking about.

Know what the best part about finding all those 8 Reales was ? Being able to give them out as gifts to all my friends.

Hate to say it, but I will be keyboard detecting until the weather breaks.

I don't see anyone questioning your finds here Calabash, its your words you talk about detectors that many own, a past thread you called the DFX a dog, someone owns that detector and they maybe completely happy with it, try and think about others before typing negative and derogatory descriptions of others detectors. I don't think its too hard to do that, you come off as a keyboard warrior not those of us who have a different opinion than you do,

A couple of forums sent you packing, I wonder what the reason was.
Re: AT GOLD GOOD IN IRON?? COMPARED TO WHAT?

This whole line of posts needs to be deleted.

Calabash can make any videos he wants and we are all free here to talk about any detectors and comparisons we want too. I have enjoyed all his videos including the AT Gold.

So there's no problem.

Let it go.
