Historically, pink has not been considered particularly feminine.
It only happened after WWII when Madison Avenue started pushing pink as a girl's color.

I bought it for MD purposes, but I can definitely envision other uses.
I'll second what Ozzie said, cool beans!
Thanks again for enlightening me, Chris. Also thanks to shakydigger for sharing his experience.

Look at the bright side with that Rav4, Daniel. It's a tried and true axiom in the car industry that first year design vehicles have the most repair issues.

In response to your PM Sonny, sorry you were offended.
But I was surprised it took you over 50 years of detecting to finally figure out something that seems so self-evident.

Like others here are saying, 95%+ of problem buyers or sellers will be people who are new to the forums or auction site. I've had a whole bunch of excellent transactions on a couple of the detecting forums, buying and selling, and the only two times I've had a bad experience was with newbies.
I know there are a number of Finds ex-pats here, some with legit complaints about the site,

And a good reason for that, Rich.
Total S mintage for war nickels was close to 3 times higher than the D mintage total. At a little over 15 million, the 43-D is the key date of the war nickels.

"The detector will not emit a tone nor light up an indicator..."
I wouldn't bet that this detector is any better than their command of the English language.
Caveat emptor!

Steve - Fascinating reading, and your hypothesis seems quite logical as the evidence points to often significant variations in war nickel alloy composition.
War nickels had very large mintages. Who knows how many we've all passed on digging up? In my case anyway, I would argue a lot.
The 1943-P had a then record-high nickel mintage that wouldn't be surpassed until 1962, almost

What you say makes sense, Steve. I hope you are able to get use of one of those analyzers. As you said, this could have significant numismatic implications. A good percentage of the war nickels I've dug are corroded to varying degrees unlike silver and copper coins. That indicates to me manganese as the culprit. Perhaps, as you theorize, a result of being alloyed with one of the other me

Steve - What an interesting thread! I think you probably hit on the primary reason for varying silver nickel IDs. Not differing alloys (although I wouldn't rule that out, especially in wartime) but rather the instability of that 9% manganese.
Supernaut - Thank you for educating me. I had never heard of Henning counterfeit nickels, so I read up on it. Fascinating story, and from now on

Minelab is a publicly traded company. Publicly traded companies have stockholders to answer to and are constantly driven to increase profits. When you see 800s selling for over retail none of that additional money is going to Codan (Minelab's parent company) It is in their interest to fully supply demand.
Be patient, they will be readily available soon.

Thank you, Dan. I wouldn't have listed it if I wasn't willing to sell it, but it's definitely mixed emotions. Every time I sell one, I seem to pick up another within the year.
Right you are about the quarter eagle, Harold. Thanks for the correction.

I remember that too, Ozzie. It was exciting just seeing and reading about when you found it. It was a $5 if I remember correctly. That and the $2.50 are the denominations that circulated most and the cz-3d brings those up to high tone in the enhanced mode instead of mid-tone like most detectors.

Here's to Mr. Kill-joy, I like the guy.
I don't consider him a skeptic. I'd describe him as more of a common-senstic. Even when we've occasionally disagreed, I've always appreciated the logic in his viewpoints.
Newbies especially are often skittish about the legalities and tons of them come to the forums for guidance. Tom has done the hobby a major service by the

The "only charge" you had to pay was shipping to Australia? For a detector you had three days?
In my book that's pizz poor customer service.

It's been a little while, but to calibrate and certify depth on a cz-3d he charges $100.
To do the same to the cz-5 as well as upgrade to cd-3d specs was more, it's been a few years since I had it done but I'm thinking it was $220.

Congrats on the new job, Steve.
I'm guessing this means I shouldn't be holding my breath for that pair of phones we talked about you building a couple weeks ago?
