I just got a 600 for $650. I am glad I didnt get the 800; I didnt need the extra features and I am replacing the headphones w waterproof ones. Saved $250+
One thing I would be curious about...who got the 800 but arent using the extra features? Or who got the 600 and wish they had the extra features?

I would imagine its very easy to hack these machines...If I had the time I would. It would be cool to go in and overclock all of the settings. In the future I would love for these companies to control the device from your phone via an app - no need for a control box on the detector.

Agree. Too many jump into a PI and then try to hunt dry beach, fishing spots, or beaches where a vlf is just as deep. Hopefully the manta solves a few of these with the iron disc depending how it works

Battery life of the eqx is very good as others have pointed out. Having said that the batteries power will slowly get worse over time. Minelab is supposed to release a video on changing the battery though

OK, Just did some air tests in the 100 degree heat. Too hot out there.
On both my small womens wedding band and quarter, the depth loss from Recover Speed 1 (*2 on the 800) to 3 (*6 on the 800) was about 2-3 inches for both beach 1 and beach 2. Settings Iron bias 0 and Sens 20. I also tested this on sens 15 and sens 25 with similar results. This seems inline with the 4-5 inch difference I am

Ran a number of tests this morning at the beach, which has very low mineralization (us east coast beach).
The air tests:
On the air tests, recovery speed definitely affected depth a lot (multiple inches from low to high). So the lower recovery speed you can get away with, the better in a clean area...but read below to see how it worked in real world setting...When I put iron nails next to

For those with the equinox, what iron bias and recovery settings are you using for the beach modes? I've been using default but I've been wondering if I should decrease the iron bias and recovery for deeper targets than what the default is on the 600.
*please note if you have the 600 or 800 as the numbers are different. Also defaults on both machines are different too.

That is very impressive. I've been digging all of those 1-10s and getting small pieces of can/foil that I can barely find. Still waiting for it to hit a chain!

I sold mine for $1900 on feebay in April. It included about 1yrs of warranty, the 17'' coil, GG headphones that were brand new, 11'' coil that was brand new, and CTX handbook. The machine was in perfect condition as I treated it like a baby! I think $1600-$1700 is about average. I mean someone can buy a brand new machine with the GG headphones and 6 inch coil for $2300-$2500.

I've got about 8 silvers with the nox. Its as deep as my other machines. Will it hit chains? Not sure it will do so at depth...but its way too early in the summer to tell.

This with multifrequency tech. The one thing I don't like about the nox or the CTX was lack of an all metal mode. Hearing those whispers a

I wouldn't do it on purpose or regularly unless they specifically say it can take the heat. Most electronics do fine in the heat but it all depends how its made. Sometimes the glue can melt, the heat can make the metal bend causing the glue to break, etc, which can lead to a broken machine. I've seen it happen at work several times when people left their laptops in the car...but your ca

My recent blog post on air testing. Anything off here?
Is air testing an accurate way to measure the depth your detector can get? The answer is yes and no. Let me explain...
Air testing a machine is a controlled environment. Assuming the area you are testing is free from interference (emf), an air test is as deep as your machine can get from a recent drop. It cannot get deeper than an air t

Lately, a lot of the forums just seem off for some reason. I've always liked this forum as the members tend to be more 'scientific/objective' in their quest to understand metal detecting, the technology, etc. if that makes any sense.

This is easy...
Light/Ergonomic - No more CZ/Excal/CTX monster machines
Inexpensive (<$1000)
PI Machine
2 tones - iron vs non iron
Waterproof up to 10 ft and then maybe a diving version that would probably be heavier.
Can change coils/headphones
Things that would be nice but are not must haves to me...
Multiple tones
ID Numbers on a screen
Depth
External speaker
Clock - yep I

As a beach hunter, there is no difference in performance in the 600 vs 800. If I did nugget hunting, I would of gotten the 800 to get the gold all metal mode. I need multifrequency (beach 2 to be exact) for all of my detecting. The only reason the 800 would be worth it for me is if I wanted minelab wireless headphones and some more tone/backlight options. Now that I have the 600, I've never

I've been waiting for a PI that can disc iron for the beach for years. Keep the price under $1000 and they will be kings of the beach for us beach hunters. I don't need 1000 tones. I just need iron vs not iron.
