I live in Florida also and these things are nothing new, especially in Central Florida. Last year one opened up and took a horse and barn with it. No warning.

Heard on another forum that Fisher has halted production of the Gold Bug 2.
This rings true as there are nearly none for sale on Ebay right now.
Has anyone heard why?
Is it a temporary halt?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't blame you Dan. I've learned that I'm pretty picky about detectors and what I'm looking for. It took a lot of trial and error to get where I'm at and I'll admit to going thorugh a lot of machines to get there.

Tesoro has not pulled it, nor are they updating the unit. I checked. They ran into a production problem, reportedly with the computer program on the machinery used to produce the Golden and they are working on getting it fixed. I just called Tesoro about it yesterday. There is absolutely no problem with the units currently in the hands of users and no bad units were sold.
As to my opinion of G

CZ-3D - 11 years ago
Looking for a new beach/wet sand detector (no surf).
Is now a good time to buy a CZ-3D, or is it better to wait for the next generation in the CZ lineup?
Heard some grumbling about the construction quality of the new CZ-3D's. Just wondering.

On the plus side, Congress appears to be once again considering doing away with the dollar bill and going to dollar coins only.
Apparently they finally figured out that would save over $4 Billion over 30 years if they did this, in spite of the ramp up costs for the coinage volume they would need to produce.
Now, if only they would act on it.
Talk about a gift to metal detectorists.

I don't know if anyone has tried this or not, but if took a White's VX3 or V3i and ran it in the 22 kHz frequency alone, would it be as effective in the filed on tiny shallow targets the same way the Gold /Bug Pro or G2 would?
In theory, they should function the same, but I am wondering if anyone has ever tried this.
I say this assuming all machines used the smaller 5" coil o

I have been told from a very reliable source that using the concentric coils on the AT Pro in Pro Mode will aid you significantly in identifying bottlecaps.
If you are hunting in modern trashy areas, that is a blessing in itself.

You know something, the question regarding the Eric Foster design worried me, especially when some questioned it. So I went back and researched it again and it appears I was wrong. Foster apparently designed some of the circuits used on the DP Pulse, but he did not design the hole unit. Apologies for the misleading information.
However, that mistake aside, I still feel the DP Pulse has best se

I live near the east coast of Florida.
The reason volume control is so important is that wind and wave action can vary greatly day to day aroundhere. Some days it is calm and quiet and other days pretty blustery. That can make volume control a critical issue for me.
Gary Storm designed the layout of the DP line, but the guts are from a Eric Foster design. DP definitely had some quality cont

I will give my two cents. Heck, that may be all its worth.
I owned both and I will say that regardless of any capabilites, I would never own another Dual Field. The gigantic coil hard wired to the unit is bulky and feels like you are swinging a garbage can lid. It is also boyant and will try to float in the water (you heard correctly). You have to apply pressure to keep the thing underwater. T

Dan-PA hit it exactly.
I once hunted the site of a one room schoolhouse in West Virginia and came away with only three wheat pennies.
At first I thought "What is wrong with my hunting skills?"
And then I realized almost immediately, "Dummy, what did you expect to find at a site where only poor children congregated?"
Those kids that lost those pennies probably got a

Well, Tom, you stated your basis for your conclusions, which are sound.
While some may disagree with you, so far no one has offered the results of a counter test that proves anything to the contrary.
Sounds that you the only person who has actually tested these detectors side-by-side.
Thanks for the information.

Can;t see any flaws with your logic. The wife using the GT will find good deeper targets while your GB2 will find the tiny stuff nothing else will.
As long as you fully grasp what you're in for (the digging of tiny metal particles), I say go for it!

Hi Seeker.
What brand of detector are you using out there?
Its tough finding gold now. Everybody's poor and can't afford gold anymore.
No one has a job and gold prices are sky high.
Its no wonder finds are thinning out.

A couple of thoughts:
Dewcon, you can't use detectors like the Gold Bug 2 in wet salt sand because because they cannot function there. Micro jewlery hunters have to stay in the dry sand only.
schultzie, I was thinking more in terms of scooping and then rescanning the area with the coil to see if if I got it.
Aaron: Rats. I hadn't thought of that. Oh well, nice idea while it las

Somebody please explain to me the value of hunting in all metal mode.
I get the idea of increased depth and sensitivity.
But then I am told that when a potnetial target is hit, you switch to discriminate and if the signal disappears, you move on.
Hold up a second.
We all know that when you switch from All Metal to discrimination you lose depth. Maybe not a lot, but some depth is lost

I found bought something today I have not yet tried in the field, but looks like it might be a perfect device when hunting the dry sand of the beach for micro jewlery.
Its a sand sifter used by pet reptile owners to clean their tanks.
You can pick one up at any big box pet retailer (I got mine at Petsmart).
You can also go to the website and type in "sand sifter". It comes righ

Tom,
To answer your question, after the first initial viewing, it was your actual beach hunt showing where you finding targets and what kinds of targets they were. This allowed you to narrow your beach search to areas were gold was most likely found.
The second most helpful part was your discussion on the nature of gold and what it actually does on the beach.

I watched a good chunk of mine last night. Very enlightening.
I can also see some of the reasons why my performance at the beach has not been the greatest.
I was especially grateful for that section he did on micro jewelry hunting.
On a side note, I have to say I've never seen anyone swing a detector at the beach with that much energy in my life! :-)
