You are in good company deathray, lots of Finds expats here!
To tell the truth. I've always disliked the reality TV genre, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised I don't like the MD ones.
The difference is that now they are negatively affecting my hobby, so it kind of gets my dander up a bit.
But regardless of what I or anyone else thinks, Pan dora's box has been opened

While most of us complain about these shows, there's one thing we all can appreciate.
This unsponsored website where the owner believes in free speech.
4 pages of threads on Finds about Dig Wars and other MD shows, including responses from Chicago Ron, just went poof.
Maybe the overwhelming negative feedback to these shows was making some of the website sponsors nervous?

Honestly though...how many sites
have you had that were taken off limits as a
direct result of the TV shows?
I don't know how you could know for any specific site. When some moron leaves craters everywhere and gets an area put off limits to metal detecting, there's no way to know whether he (or she) was

The allure of these shows isn't metal detecting per se, but rather the universal dream of "hitting the jackpot"
Whether actual detectorists watch these shows makes no more difference to the producers than whether real forensic scientists watch CSI type shows. The vast majority of audience for these shows are not active detectorists.

All the usual "reality" show staples edited predictably: contrived competition, grade-school trash talking and overacting by non-actors. On top of that, the thrill of someone finding cool stuff every minute or two. I'll bet Dig Wars will be a ratings success.
These detecting TV shows are no doubt profitable for the producers and the participants who also get to feed their egos

Very interesting thread.
Precious metals prices up or down, we can all keep mining thanks to this great hobby.
Keith, hopefully you'll never go to rehab for your new detector addiction...I always enjoy your detailed observations and I'm looking forward to your insights on FT's latest.

I totally agree with you guys about the metal detecting shows. I've won't go into all my issues with these shows again, I'll just say they are not a positive for the hobby.
The one with the wrestler is obviously worse than Diggers, but to my mind Diggers is even worse for the hobby because it is the one that is most likely to bring newbies into the hobby with no direction what

I saw this link on a different forum and thought I'd share it. This kind of thing seems to be happening with increasing frequency.
Apparently another town is for all intents and purposes banning metal detecting.
You cannot detect at:
•Athletic fields
•Historical areas
•Irrigated lawns
•Archaeological sites
•Landscaped areas
•Any area with a sign prohibiting metal detecting.

Kevin, that is a great deal you are offering with the extra coil and all the other extras. If I didn't already have two AT Pros I would snap this up in a heartbeat..
Anybody thinking about this fine detector would be well advised to jump on this offer.

I had a Tom calibrated cz-3d last year, but I threw in the towel after a couple months.
The slower optimum sweep speed was a negative for me, but the biggest issue was the iron falsing.
But the detector kept calling me back. The depth, the enhanced mode and nickels in high tone were all positives that led me to cz-3d #2.
My second cz-3d has now found me some good seconds - my second Barb

Thanks for all the excellent responses.
I'm starting my second go round with a cz-3d, again with a Tom calibrated 12" 1021.
I always thought I would never be someone who would come back to a detector I had sold off once.
But this detector and its depth was calling me back, I'm going to give it a fair chance and master it this time.
Got my first silvers with the unit Sun

Michigan, you are a poster boy for finding a stellar detector, learning it inside and out, and sticking with it.
So does an iron target pinpoint in a less symmetrical pattern than a coin or good round target? Or how would you describe it?

I know the newer cz-3ds don't get the depth that the classic Los Banos units usually had, but are the newer units less prone to iron falsing?

Mike - Nice to see you here again.
I really enjoyed reading your inside baseball stories about the last years of FRL before the FT takeover that you posted a while back. Some excellent insights on the progression and subsequent decline of the cz-3d.
Now that some of the product development pipeline seems to be getting closer to market, hopefully you'll be posting more often.

I always take company hype with a grain of salt, but the guy on the video says 2" deeper than the Ace. The Ace 250 is no depth demon, but two inches deeper would be phenomenal depth for a detector at this price.
My guess would be that separation, recovery speed and ergonomics on a FT detector would trump the 250.
List price $159 means MAP will probably be in the $140's.

Why does the current cz-3d not come close in depth to the Los Banos 1021 s/n detectors made almost 20 years ago?
Those 1021 units seem to average around 12" depth in Tom's dirt when he calibrates them.
The couple times I've seen newer units Tom tuned it was around 9" depth.
So what is FT doing differently now? Why aren't current cz-3ds averaging around that 12&q

Tom, I'm confused. Why do you think Keith's test garden appears to be low to moderate mineralization when Keith says otherwise about the ground in his area?

Kevin, when I thought about it rationally I told myself to get a grip. But I'll admit my gut reaction was I wish these buffoons weren't using the same detector I use.
I'd give you very long odds that Garrett is paying for product placement.
I completely understand why. And if Garrett didn't do it, some other manufacturer would for sure.
But it still disappoints m

The Monkees were derogatorily coined the "prefab four" since they were created and marketed - prefabricated - to compete with the Beatles AKA the Fab Four. By 1967 the Monkees were more popular than the Beatles. Helped along by John Lennon's remark in 1966 that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.
Unlike when I was a kid, I'm no longer embarassed to say the Monkees

I've finally broken down and watched several episodes of this show.
My first observation is that this is not a good thing for the hobby, but it is about what you would expect from a non-reality "reality" show.
With hundreds of TV channels looking for programming, the hobby was fortunate to avoid the reality vultures for as long as it did.
Very few outside the hobby would w

Absolutely amazing and thrilling find, congratulations Ozzie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The stereotype about blondes seems to have a grain of truth...but that truth is for "bottle" blondes, not the real ones. Yours sounds like a keeper for sure.

OK, Del, I see now that on the Fisher site they refer to the boost detector now as the F-75 LTD.
I probably should shut up, I can't keep up with the naming twists and turns of the FT marketing dept.
When the dust settles, if it is true that the newer 75s have indeed conquered the EMI issue, I think date of manufacture will be the paramount issue and that can be easily ascertained fro

Hi, Del, how you doing my friend.
I'm not Tom or an F-75 expert, but I did use one for over a year and here's what I've picked up on the F-75 name evolution:
The original non-boost was called the F-75 and came out in 2006. On the box they referred to it as the 75th Anniversary Special Edition.
The boost and cache mode F-75s first came out in 2009. The first ones were
