I couldn't find it either. It looks like distributors still have it on their websites though. I would think if they decided to scrap the lesser version, they would inform those who have already sold them on a pre-ordered basis. A curious development for sure.

I started detecting in 2010 with an Ace 250 which I used for four years and found enough clad to by my Racer. Last year I found a lightly used Delta 4000 for $75 for my 9 year old son which he loves. None of us liked the over the counter Bounty Hunter.

I've been away from the forums for awhile after moving to North Dakota. Here the Detecting season is short and so I'm interested in what books everyone recommends for the intermediate land detectorist. Sometimes it's nice to sit with a real book and I have plenty of time over the next five months to learn something new.

I've moved up to North Dakota where the hunting season is short but there's a lot of history. Being right on the Missouri River I am thinking that I should get a waterproof detector to see what I can find. Any suggestions? AT Pro or is there something more appropriate in that price range?

Prior to purchasing a detector I spent several months researching. In that time I don't believe that I found a single model or manufacturer that someone didn't post negative comments or experiences about. There were many posts about having to return pinpointers multiple times and yet they are still considered a great company with a great product.
It seems to me that Makro has add

I'm completely jealous. I spent five days working Topsail Island and only came away with $1.37 in clad, a #2 fishing weight, and a womens Seiko watch. I figured out too late about really slowing the swing speed down. Hopefully I will be able to hit a beach again sometime but they are few & far between for me. Congrats on your finds!

I did not need to lower the gain. I am running it in stock beach mode with gain at 95. I have noticed that I really have to move slowly to get results.
They are rebuilding the beach on the island so between North Topsail and Surf City is buried under a foot of new sand. I will be going back to North beach today. I'm hoping for just one more notable find before we leave.

I've been using the Racer up and down Topsail Island for the last three days. Overall I have been impressed with its performance. On the dry sand there has been no issues. When the coil goes over the wisps of black sand I can hear a faint whoosh sound and that's it. Moving to the wet sand I just rebalance and it continues to work silently. Going in the water was not an issue until

Thanks everyone. I was probably just moving too fast . I slipped away from my in-laws picnic to go. Another thing I have noticed and it may just be a trait of DD coils; if I have a coin on or very close to the surface, it will sound like two separate targets. If I raise the coil up 3-4 inches it sounds like one. Is this normal?
Don't get me wrong, I love the Racer. I know that I'

I've been using the Racer for about a month and have around 60 hours on it. I thought I was starting to get the hang of what it's telling me until I spent a couple hours at a 100+ year old park today in another town. It was the trashiest park I'd ever encountered. Having such little time, I originally wasn't digging pennies but as good sounding targets were rare I thought,

Good advice for all. I would also add for those reading reviews to take into consideration the type of hunting the reviewer is basing the review upon. If you plan on primarily coinshooting in the local parks, the trash you will encounter is different from the trash a relic hunter deals with.
Additionally, little things about a detector can make a big difference in the enjoyment of the hobb

I decided to go with the #733 aluminum scoop with an added grip. With as much use as it will get, it should last a lifetime. I will post about my experience with the Racer on the beach since there is not much info on it in that environment yet.

So here's the deal. I'm taking a vacation to Topsail Island, NC from central, IL at the end of the month and plan on doing a large amount of searching the beach. I've only been beach detecting once before and now I know that I need a scoop. I would like to keep the cost low since trips to the beach are few and far between but I also want a long handle to save my back a bit of stres

I think racer talk has been quiet because we're out hunting! I'm still rather new and taking my time learning what it's telling me but I love how easy the Racer is to use. I really like the stock coil but in trashy parks around pavilions and basketball courts, the small coil is invaluable. It's almost like there are triple the targets to investigate.

I find that the majority of newer style pop tabs ring in at 82, it's the older pull tabs without the tail that I have been digging more of lately in my search for rings. If I hear the good tone in conjunction with a tiny chirp, I know it's a tab complete with ring & tail.

Now that I have my Racer, I have switched my focus in parks from coin hunting to jewelry. In doing so I dig more of the older pull tabs which is to be expected. One thing that I have noticed is that if the beaver tail is still attached to the ring the Racer let's me know with a high pitched chirp next to the regular tone for the ring part. This holds true about 95% of the time based on ho

For me, detecting is an escape from all of the pressures of life. All I have to do is focus and "FolowTheBeep". No kids fighting, bosses to answer to, or chores to worry about; just " FollowTheBeep". I made a deal with my wife that I won't buy a new detector until the current one pays for itself so I do get excited when I find something of value but honestly I get more

I had a couple people lead me in the direction of the AT Pro but I didn't listen. I followed my gut and went with the Racer. I have no regrets so far. I have not even put the small coil on yet as I wanted to learn the stock coil first. When my lower rod comes in, I will switch and hit some park areas that I have determined would be good candidates for the OOR.
I set a goal to find so
