Is it just me or does this happen to you also? Sometimes when I get a high signal off a nail it rings high in two directions causing me to dig only to find it is a nail. This happens on smaller nails or deep nails. Is this normal? I have my Explorer SE Pro set at 26 auto sensitivity and 22 or 23 iron mask. I usually use my 6X8 SEF coil. If there is a way to avoid these false signals I would appre

I have a hunting buddy that is an excellent detectorists. He uses an Explorer SE Pro like mine. He has been detecting for over 20 years but has been using the Explorer for about 8 years. Being over 40 years younger then me he can dig plugs at the fraction of time I can. His success has always been much better then mine. The other day I asked him if I could hook up to his audio while he detected t

Thanks all for your encouragement. I really have found a lot of the good stuff as any good detectorists. My frustration is how little compared to my hunting buddy. I have only a little time left to get as proficient as my buddy because of my age (81).I have an agreement with my buddy to hook up with his detector and follow him around one day listening to him hunting to see how he reacts to signal

I have been detecting for 6 to 7 years and hunt with a good friend who uses an Explorer SE Pro. He has hunted for over 20 years. I have an Explorer SE pro also. My frustration is his ability to out hunt me virtually every time we go out. I am using the same settings as he but still fail to match or come close to his finds. He is 40 years younger then me and can dig and move faster then me. But h

Went to an old Masonic lodge and found two keepers . One was a Reb Eagle button with a lot of gold plate still on it. My Teknetics T2 SE located it at 8 inches. It is a cuff button so it is quite small. Also found a Washington Quarter with my Explorer SE Pro. It was a 1963 silver at 5 inches. Thanks for looking.

I like my Minelab SE Pro the best. My Garrett AT Pro second because I use it when water detecting and my Teknetics T2 Se third for a backup.

Thanks for all the input. I realize that still getting a signal as you raise your coil usually means a large target. But I am able to get very high above the target every where I get a target. More than a foot I believe the trash is so dense that my coil being an 8X6 SEF coil is too large and no matter how slow I sweep I am getting to many signals underneath the coil. I think the solution is a 5

I went to an old race track dating back to 1935 today and experienced a difficult day detecting with my Explorer SE pro with the 8x6 SEF coil. The area I hunted was extremely trashy. I was getting a lot of coin hits but most of them were trash. You couldn't move 6 inches to a foot without getting a lot of signals. I found I could isolate a good coin sound but the coil would keep sounding off

Went hunting with my buddy again and we got permission to hunt an old farm house. Hunting was tough. The place apparently was hunted very well in the past. We had trouble finding even clad. There was little junk also. But my explorer swung over a good signal and I dug a 1952 Rosie with a nail in the hole. My buddy struck out. We left and went to a large estate that My buddy hunted last week while

My wife and I went to Wisconsin for a little vacation and I took my SE PRO along. I got a chance to detect a Rural Equipment museum sight that had a fairly large area of ground. I was using my 6x8 SEF coil and was finding a bunch of clad and one Wheatie. I decided to change my coil to my 10x12 SEF to cover more ground since time was running short. Lo and behold I found another Wheatie and then at

My hunting buddy and I have had god success with our Explorer SE Pro's and small coils over the last 3 days. We went out in the evenings for about 3 hours each time. We found at least 30 Wheaties 4 Indian heads, Tokens junk rings, 4 silver dimes 2 Roosies and 2 Mercs. A silver capped bust that had been cut up for change. Some clad was in the mix with one V Nickel. My buddy was using his 8 i

Hi Lowboy,
I checked what was the going price for the exact ring and the retail for it was 995.00. The sapphire was what made the ring that expensive. I believe it should be worth at least half of that. The melt value is close to 200 dollars. It weighs 13 grams. Good luck and good hunting.

I had not used my Teknetics T2 Se in about three months. I was using some other detectors instead. I took the T2 out and decided to get use to using it in the boost mode. I had tried it before but did not like the tone it put off when picking up targets. I decided to use it until I got use to the tones it put off. It did not take long to learn what certain tones would indicate like foil and iron.

My hunting companion and I were sweeping an old park in Indianapolis yesterday and he came across a very iffy signal with his Explorer SE Pro using his 11 inch pro coil. He called me over to try my Explorer SE pro with my 8X6 SEF coil. I swung over it and got a penny sound but it was off by a little. My smart screen was jumping around from a ring signal to a penny signal but the sound was steady

I have a very perplexing signal with my Explorer SE Pro. Many times I will get a fair to good coin signal in both directions that shifts from coin to iron and back and forth. I end up digging a nail at deeper depths. I am using my 8X6 SEF coil with 22 Disc in 32 Auto sensitivity setting. Why would a two way signal not be a coin in this situation? It is a good high signal. This has happened with m

I got my new 6X8 SEF coil in the mail Friday and put it on the Explorer for a checkout, I went to the neighbors yard which I have detected to death with 3 different detectors. It seemed like I was in virgin territory. I found 6 coins in only one section of the front yard and 2 of them were Wheaties. Today I went to an old site with my hunting partner. I found a honey hole of heavy thick walled co

Hunted this old pasture once again yesterday. My hunting buddy and I are going over it with a fine tooth comb. There was an old church there in 1854. and a swimming hole at the other end of the pasture. It is quite large and we used our Minelab SE PRO's for a couple of days in order to cover it and find the hot spots. This place has been hunted very much according to the evidence we found.

Took the ATPRO out for a hunt today at a local park for a couple hours. It has been several months since I had used it. My 3 other detectors were getting most of my attention. I just decided I wanted to swing the ATP. Boy was I delighted with how the detector performed. I had forgotten how well it handles iron and the quality sounds this machine puts out. I just got the ATPRO back from Garrett an

I have been trying the ferrous sounds settings with Bryce Browns program. I find I like the way it sounds and where the trash signals tend to settle on the Smartfind screen. Will this have any effect on the depth capabilities compared to Conductive setting. What are the other disadvantages by not using the conductive mode? Thanks in advance.

Last week I was stopped from detecting at Baker Park in New Castle IN. I and many more detectorists have been detecting here for many years. It turns out there is not any ordinances what so ever banning detecting in New Castle IN. The park ranger and city policeman were just exercising unauthorized power. Happy Hunting. By the way, I exercise total detecting etiquette.

I have detected this park for about 4 years without a problem. The local Police often wave or stop and talk with me. Today I was detecting and a park patrol officer not the police stopped me from detecting and said you can't dig holes on city property. He said you could detect but not dig, He asked me for ID and went to his car and called the police. A Patrolman came to the scene and said I

Went out with my buddy hunting this afternoon to a place that has been hunted to death. I managed to find a cameo ring There was a hint of gold but I believe it might be plated. I soaked it in salt and vinegar and it removed a lot of the corrosion on it but the ring has a crust on it that seems to be covering gold beneath. It looks a lot like a crust that builds up on gold in salt water. How can

My buddy and I went detecting today on an Eagle's property with permission. It has a long history of different uses over the years. My hunting partner uses an Explorer SE Pro also. Right out of the box he found a 1906 Indian head penny. We hunted for about 5 hours and found clad and junk. At about 5:30 pm I dug up a 1904 Indian head penny. That was it for today. I found a Canadian dime the o
