Just under 5 sens was maximum air test on the couple CZ-5's I had. Great fresh water hunters when chest mounted as they weren't locked in salt mode. Digging the faint iron foil bouncers netted me more than a few DEEP mens bands. The 10.5" coil was great for covering high use areas for fresh dropped goodies.

How about using a couple different fixed weights (user selectable) but make it adjustable to each persons preference.
ie: female connector to male to small inner rod with a sliding weight that can be fixed with a set screw or locking ring. Simple yet elegant.

Never shot a compound bow. At 15 yrs old and 99 lbs used a 55# recurve and only one kid around could beat me target shooting. Good thing he was my best friend.

That is simply awesome. Truly wonder what the circumstances were of the dimes being holed and ending up in the ground like that. The remains of the fire may throw some light on it, but who knows for sure.
Big congrats Brian!!

Semi retired at 66 having a blast working 2-3 days a week at the General Store in our small town. We have some real characters as customers. It's a hoot and I would miss it.
We fill a real need too as there isn't a Big Box store within a 45 minute drive.
Still feel young and will continue most likely until I'm 70.

Thanks for the blast from the past. Never had the F19 but used a G2+ for a while and first silver with it was a seated dime, not as old as yours 1865.

Reminds me of when my older brother was in the service and stationed at Ft Rucker AL for helicopter school. He went to a Chevy dealership to buy a new 1967 Camaro. Since he wasn't old enough to secure a loan by himself the Salesman called home to speak with dad. After a bit on the phone with the salesman my dad handed me the phone and said "see if you can understand this guy" LOL

Calabash you certainly can tell when you are in iron with it set to just breakup on a nail. Many of us started out with beep dig detectors and it can be a very satisfying way to hunt even in heavy iron. The iron sounds turn into background white noise after a while and any little bleep bloop or whatever stands out amidst the background. Very Satisfying!

Troy X5 was a poor jewelry hunter. Hit the bigger targets OK but the limited iron resolution range at the ferrous/non-ferrous break point made it impossible to pick up the low conductors in any kind of iron situation. A fact very few wanted to admit or talk about.

Anfib hit the dime pretty good but couldn't give a reliable high conductor TID. But as you said, good enough for relic hunting. So can't really knock the Tesoro for that use either. Calling out a target as a button or whatever is fun but not the end all.

The original 1236's were made in Los Banos. Not sure when they switched to Taiwan. I have my buddies 1236 which it is a Taiwan model. This one seems to have more usable gain due to a change in threshold level at higher sensitivity settings however, that could be due to a difference in the headphones used. I'd like to get a hold of an original Los Banos built machine to compare.

I bought a 1236 when they came out and it was the only detector I had for almost 2 years. Put well over 2000 hours on it by my reckoning and made more finds with it than any other detector since. I was getting ready to hit the beach with it when word came over the car radio of the planes hitting the World Trade Center.
The disc on the 1236 is perfect for hunting nails, in fact any size iron

Back in the day (well not that long ago) if you were a UK detectorist you were using a Tesoro.
Once sold a Lobo to a well known UK detectorist.

Remember when men's comfort fit rings got popular... man was that fun summers out in the lakes! Heavy rings with beveled edges, cold water and sun tan lotion. The perfect storm!
