Living in the Tampa Bay area there have been several occasions over the years that the final glide path was close enough to hear the double boom. The first time I couldn't understand what I was hearing until I had time to realize that it was time for the shuttle to come in. My best view of the shuttle was about a year and a half ago when it launched around supper time and with the sun at tha

As one who served in the Marine Corps I can only imagine his emotion at the return of the symbolic dog tag and on Memorial Day!

Bob,
I have in my club, Suncoast Research & Recovery, at least 5 or 6 dedicated women that hunt regularly and a handful that do hunt with their husbands on frequent occasions but not by themselves. I'm not sure if the dedicated gals would venture into wooded area due to some concern for their safety. Most of our hunting is beach hunting since we live on the beaches of Clearwater and St.

Elbert,
I was fortunate to see a demo of the AU21X by Tom Dankowski (which is a modified CZ 3D) at one of my club meetings a few years back. His demo included all types of beach trash from small bits of foil, cigarette wrappers, pieces of shredded can, condom wrappers, bottle caps and pull tabs that were found in dry sand beaches in Florida.
He advised that the unit is designed for dry sand,

Amen Tom,
57 years ago I joined the Marine Corps because I felt the need to satisfy my patriotic desires to serve. Now at 75 I even more feel the need. I can't imagine someone not swelling with pride at the sight of the Flag or hearing our National Anthem. Let us never forget the troops and sacrifices they must make.

Hey Seeker , Welcome to the Sunshine State. I'm originally from Chicago and I know that winter sucks up there. Summer down here gets very warm but that's why they invented water hunting.
Another beach hunting tip if the hunting is a little slow try hunting near the bikinis at least it won't be boring. Especially during Spring Break but watch out you're apt to get whiplash.

Another real good place is off Venice Beach on the Gulf Coast. Several members of my club frequent the area and one in particular brings in the shark teeth by the hundreds, many of which are in the 2" to 6" range. There are numerous other fossils brought in from the area. I gave up diving 25 years ago so I just get to see the results and miss out on the going and doing!

I am not nearly smart enough to realize what mystical things he did inside that CZ 3D but his demo was done with a plastic baggie full of typical beach trash in the foil range (cigarette package, drink cap liners, bits of aluminum foil of different sizes, etc). After the mod is done enhanced mode is the AU21X and salt mode is unchanged and used for hunting the wet sand slopes. If I remember corre

I have experieced a demo of the AU21X at one of Tom's seminars and it's amazing. He designed it for dry sand beaches but we have about 34 miles of beach where I live so plenty of target areas. The gold has a different sound from all the aluminum trash. I finally got my legs fixed so I can hit the beaches again and I will probably be getting the mod done soon.

Tom,
That was done shortly after I gave up my SE chapter presidency but I don't believe it was a convention. It was another event in which we did have a big presence. Jill is still Treasurer and Carl does whatever Carl needs to do, although I have caught him in nap mode on more than one occasion. I know that they would be glad to have you as Key Note speaker or Seminar or anything Dankows

Hey Tom,
The convention is going to be at the Springmaid Resort Sept, 29th, 30th and Oct. 1st in Myrtle Beach. Any chance you might make it up there? I do the Quest newsletter for them now so I'll be there and I'm sure a lot of your friends could make it for meet and greet and absorb knowledge.

Stan,
Be sure to get me a few more details (name and better pic) for newsletter. You're in the right club, we take returning jewelry very serious. Not only does it make you feel good and the person getting the jewelry very happy, but it shows the world that that, we in this hobby, are down right nice people and not the grave robbers some believe us to be.
Good find Stan!

Hey Dew,
After you move to FL you'll have plenty of time to work on this since central FL and W central FL in Particular are the lightening capitol of N. America. You will have some awesome displays for both visual wonderment and head scratching with your detector! Tom is due east from this area so he too gets.a big dose of Thor throwing the bolts during the summer!

I have lived in Florida 50 years, however detecting only 22 yrs. and yep, thats what zinc pennies always look like. On the beach it the assault of salt and in the dirt an overdose of fertilizers. A bunch of years ago my club had the opportunity to hunt the old county fair grounds after the topsoil was scraped and around 5000 coins were found, all in excellent condition. The ground had never been

That is correct and as usual some people are trying to paint the innocent little boy picture. Although it is tragic when someone that young does something stupid, My Space pics have turned up with him in a known gang in his housing developement, one with a big wad of money in his mouth and him pointing his hand at the camera like he was shooting a gun. He has a rap sheet with 2 stolen c

Fellow devotees,
I haven't bothered with any other forums for several years now and don't know of any reason to do so. With all of Tom's knowledge, integrity, continuing drive to learn but most of all sincere desire to share all he knows with those that crave knowledge, what would be the point? I have been most fortunate in personally knowing Tom for nearly 12 years and I have y

No I didn't know him personally. I retired before he came on but had met him at some function a few years ago. Sandy did know him since she worked during the time he was on. He was a good guy and well liked by a lot of people that he had worked with and served! He will be missed. Another tough funeral to go to. The funeral for the two officers killed in January had 15,000 in attendan

I've had an X-2 and an X-5 for at least 5 years and have always done well. I found a buffalo nickel at aroiund 13 inches on salt water beach on Gulf Coast of Florida. X-5 is light weight and rain proof. In Florida the rainproof is indispensible. When I'm done hunting just rinse the sand and salt off at one of the beach showers. Excellent machine even without meter and tone ID. The descr

CZ6a is certainly rain proof. I used mine during the infamous hurricane FMDAC convention here in FL in 2000. We had horizontal rain in 50 mph winds. I do have a chest mount for my 3D. I had the pouch made by a commercial seamtress and Fisher did sell a chest mount Harness as recently as a year ago but I don't see it in their accessories anymore. you might call to see if they are sti

Just a reminder we still have a supply of the Seminar DVD's left and for many of you the cold winter and frozen ground time is near. Now is the time for those who have not yet got a set of the DVD's, to do so, for your season of research. And those of you that don't suffer the ills of bitter winters it is still time get a set of DVD's so you can put your

He threw them in one of his many buckets of unidentified objects. After a serious discussion with his wife he decided he had to throw most of them away. He luckily held on to those two as "need to find

Tom,
Back in '95 we made a trip to Costa Rica to metal detect. There were 66 of us in the group. We made an agreement with the government to do a beach hunt, on our first day of arrival, using their Colones. The thought being that since their money would be good nowhere else that all that was found would have to be spent there. Their coins were NICKEL PLATED STEEL and the 20 Colones was the
