I would rather pay and get something truly new and wait a year as them keep coming out with just a coil change or cute updates that have little affect over the last model. If i bought an Etrac or any machine on the market right now..... it would be used. Nothing id give full price for just to say i have new. From some of the dealers who went to Chi town to see the new ML models they were i

Steve im looking forward to seeing what fisher has to offer as well. The Exp is a good field machine..... but they dont like air gab under the coil. In a corn field ive seen the F75 work with 6 inches of air gab and still do a great job on targets. There are just times you cant scrap the ground i think thats where the Exp looses it on depth ID. I think people loose a lot of their depth h

The Claddagh ring (Irish: fáinne Chladaigh) is a traditional Irish ring given as a token of friendship, love and/or as a wedding ring. The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of Claddagh, located just outside the city of Galway. The ring was first produced in the 17th century during the reign of William and Mary, though elements of the design date to the

Did the adjustment to the salt setting make the difference in how the gold read? Im assuming it did. Can most detectors be tweaked for the salt setting and if tweaked to much does it swing the higher targets like quarters off at depth? Is it like going pos. or neg on GB which you can do on some machines.... like say the DFX.

Oh lord Steve no need to apologize to me at all. I wasnt trying to be sharp with either of you. Your answers were appropriate especially to those who may not have used an Explorer. I asked and you explained very well thanks. Just wondering now what makes FBS a tad better than BBS. Dan if the Sov is like the Xcal im not sure its any better on gold..... or at least its not proven to be on

I was thinking out loud more as a beach machine. Ive got a pretty good handle on how to use it currently. Im just wondering how much difference the Sov and Exp would be in TID and depth. I personally think the Exp is a bit better on the beach .... but is it because of FBS vs BBS, tweaking ability, or tones? Might even be just because you dig anything that isnt a bottle cap or iron. E

Ive been using the Xcal which is basically a Sov BBS with 3 tones. I also have used the Exp SE FBS since they came out. What if anything would you loose by making an Exp with just 4 tones.... iron, low, med, and high? I think a lot of targets are being walked over.... especially deep ones, just because we are trying to find ways NOT to dig. But.... we know really deep targets just like

Markg....how long you been using the ET? I noticed that sound several years ago on the the SE it seems to be associated with running a higher gain on the SE. In trash its a good idea to run high gain so your weak signals dont get lost and all the tones a equally as loud. You wonder how sensitive your machine is and how close you really should be hunting to someone elce in the field.

Take a look at this web site: I know Cilve had written something about them in one of his books, but i know very little about them. Would that improve the performance of a machine that tends to like EMI or as Tom as often mentioned.... silent EMI?

Also low freq tends to be better as mentioned in tuff soil.... but it doesnt like EMI. A lot of that has to do with why they chose the 5 to 7 kHz on VLFs. But they are getting smarter and know a good majority of people wanting to get into detecting now are willing and want a machine that isnt a play toy with everything factory set.

They do have a slow processor but i think thats longer look is what gives them the depth. They are about the only machine ive used that almost need no coil movement to work. There is and advantage to slowing down some times and having a machine that doesnt require you to swing faster for the filters to work properly. Going from a Whites to the Exp and having to slow down really helped the w

The ET doesnt have nearly the learning curve that my SE required..... but still thats a darn good start out of the box. With most machines you finds initially drop some what until you gain confidence and learn what its telling you. Depending on your area and depth of coins ..... you will be getting those deeper coins with a little more time behind the wheel. Daniel.... you may be listenin

According to this gold is going to take a dive or at least its going to scare some into thinking twice about investing. Looks like any of my gold finds are going in a box or if sent in to ARA will be held for a better market price. Think the bottom will ever fall out again?

I think what the problem is .... one freq looses depth because of mineralization and the other doesnt like EMI. So there appears to be something missing.... maybe another freq added to stabilize the two. Dont work bad using either one based on the area you are hunting.... but several machines have switchable freq. On a beach the machine works pretty good.

I hear you on the micro gold Tom. I picked up about a dozen small silver studs in the last week or so and they even sound a little scratchy. Once you get the machine..... recovery becomes an issue especially on those beaches like mine with a large amount of shells. I know guys who wont even attempt to pick up a stud because its very time consuming and frustrating out there in chest deep wat

Earthmansurfer...... i spent 6 years total in Germany. Just wondering how the Euro has affected your finds? Is any of those Marks worth anything any more? We could have a heck of a payday if the US would change over to larger denomination coins. Pretty difficult to find people and places to hunt?

Jr.... i think everyone that ever lived or currently lives in Bradenton has a detector lol. Busy place that town. Most of the time the waves arent to bad especially if we get the winds knocking down the waves a bit.

I didnt have a lot of problems out west with the ML SE so i dont know why the Etrac would have. However, VA and GA is some pretty tuff stuff depending on the area you are hunting. MOST machines i know have a problem in those areas.

Ya looks like i had a old timers moment there JR. But i got a second message from John about the epoxy and bed liner spray. Here is what he said:
Upon further consultation the bedliner spray is a no no, however marine epoxy is a go. Hope this helps again.

So id say if you have a warranty id reconsider the bed liner spray. Glad i wa

I lost a coil cover yesterday off my Xcal and wrote ML.... who is mailing me one. They also confirmed bed liner spray and epoxy didnt void the warranty. In the Email they also provided info on their up coming ML Partner Conference being held in Chi town. I thought this might be of interest to those who are close and have always had a lot of unanswered questions about the equipment, training

I know Tosoros are light, but that looks like a straight shaft opportunity there. I know a few people who use Tosoros for competition hunts.

They really same recovery time. I like the sun ray..... adds a little weight, but you dont loose them, they shut of the main coil and you dont get feed back. Hand helds thou arent detector specific. Beats the heck out of the old method of passing dirt over the coil. Many targets can just be popped out with these deep pin pointers now days. Plus many are water proof or resistant. I had

I was a follower of YOUR posts we all say things on here that sometimes it just aint worth the drama Tom.... right or wrong. Ive not been in Fl long enough to know if those finds are possible on a Beach here. But i feel confident that he wouldnt come to the beaches im hunting and find those old goodies. Id love to have a honey hole that gives that variety of targets..... but i doubt youd b
