I was wandering if any of you long time relic hunters would mind sharing your research tips or certain researching tools you use? I really want to get into relic hunting but not sure how to approach locating sites. Thanks in advance.

I have several things to add to all this. First off, i had the G2 and in my soil, the AT series machines would out perform the G2 hands down in iron sites.
Also, the AT Pro in Pro mode has probably the best audio i have ever seen or heard for that matter on any machines i have tried. The Golds audio is a bit different but also bery good.
These machines equipped with the 5x8 DD coil can ac

Thanks guys. That clears things up a little better now. I still dont think i could explain it to someone though. Sounds like if someone could come up with a way to get the PI machines to discriminate than they would really be onto something.

Very good info Kevin. Alot of my public parks are being close to detectors and woods hunting may have to be another source of hunting for me and my wife since its getting hard to find places around my area.

So you tried the AT Pro when it had all its initial problems. You may actually like the AT Gold then listening to how you are gonna wanna hunt. If you have noticed the
Guys on Diggers both use the Gold and now Bill Ladd and Howard Hewitt are using it. Makes you think a little about how good these machines really are. Actions speak louder than words afterall.

There is only one detector out right now that i would love to try and thats the CTX 3030. Unfortunately, the price of it is too high and i cant justify to myself buying one. And Lowboy, i remember that you wasnt too fond of the AT Pro. Not sure if you would like the AT Gold much either. They are virtually the same machines except the Gold has an all metal mode, a threshold, sounds a little differ

Meant no harm, tmanly. I misunderstood you is all. The bell tone is a option only in standard mode of the AT Pro. The pro mode is the meat and potatoes of the machine. The AT Gold has a totally different sound than the AT Pro though.

Yeah Bill and Howards show aires Sept 7th on the travel channel i believe. It is called Dig Fellas. And Lowboy, your reviews of the G2 is what led me to buy one initially. I love that machine but ended up selling it amongst many others. I needed to see what suits me best. I have settled on the AT Gold which i love using now. I will use it till someone makes something better thats all terrain and

I too remember my First AT Pro. Air tested at around 14 inches or something. It was crazy. It was extremely deep. My current AT's dont even come close to my first. However my Gold is a tad bit deeper than my wifes Pro. But think of what Garrett could accomplish with their next detector considering how great the AT's are.

Yeah Dan, i hope Garretts next machine to replace the AT's will have a larger display. They would have a much larger customer base if the AT's had that now. Also, it would be nice if they could make them a little deeper as well.

In all honesty i have been wanting to try out an Xterra 705 and the GMP. I have had an etrac, deus and a G2 besides my current set of AT's. In my soil, the AT's outperformed them all. If only i could get Garrett to somehow enlighten us for more depth. Thats my only complaint. My Wifes AT Pro and my AT Gold just isnt all that much of a depth detector.

I honestly believe the AT's are the best machines available for iron sites. And at their price points you cant beat them. I have the At Pro and the At Gold and love them both. Sold my Deus to purchase them.

Coinseeker,
Same exact thing happened to me a few months ago. Made me very agitated. Still upset about it actually. Almost the same exact scenario to a T.

Beeman. May i suggest you read Diggers "Undertsanding your X-terra" it is a free ebook download if you register on minelab's website. Great book. No one knows as much as Randy Horton (aka Digger) does about the X-terra.

Gestures of kindness like this is sadly a rarity in this day and age. I cant say enough how great it is to see such an act. God bless you Hunt..

Another thing i wanted to mention was that for all the types of hunting you plan to do, you may find out that the Xterra 705 will probably fill all those roles nicely.

Dont forget Beeman that if you call or email Bart at big boys hobbies he will give you a much better price than whats listed on the web site.
