Thanks for all the responses! It may be the iron. It is taking me quite some time to understand what the equinox is telling me. As with any machine I’ve messed with the settings and found one I like even in pretty dense iron. The schools from 1931 and there is iron everywhere. Appreciate all the responses And I will try all the suggestions above.

Guys I’m stumped. I have one year of digging the Equinox 800 (Park 1-Multi-Speed 2-iron bias -1- GB 0)
So at least 10-20 times now As I’m chasing deep silver I come across a deep high tone.... repeatable. Once the plug is flipped... nada!
Nothing in the plug or hole for a high tone that is. Only when I get my pin pointer out and Lesche and start digging do I find the silver/deep coin.
Any tho

To date.. the Vaquero is the deepest unit I’ve ever used super tuned. 15 inch quarter in clay! Albeit it was planted... but sill it’s nuts.
Only down side is it loves deep iron when ran on outer limits.
Anyone else have this issue with them?

I use what dirtfishing reccomended on his channel and mentioned above.
Kodak zx5
And 11 inch magical arm
Your up and running for $50!
It’s what I use to film all my detecting videos. Rugged, water proof, good video quality.

Nice work! you have enough material.. you need to write a book on the equinox!
So what would you think the best settings would be for deep silver? I live in Tennessee as well, so I hunt in mostly clay/loam soil.

Id say get another detector. The F70 I had was the exact same. I never dug any deep coins, it was terribly prone to EMI. I sold it. Then I got and learned an Etrac. I dug my first ever 11" coin with it. Talk about shocked!
If your a fisher fan look into the CZ platform over the F series for deep silver. Toms CZ3D he worked on is deadly on silver, and doesn't jump all over the place l

Yes I know that if a company listened to everyone than.... nothing would ever get made because no one would be happy. But I do wish they would have stuck with and carried over the 50 scale from CTX and ETRAC.
I agree on the low conductor topic.. its deadly on Nickels.... I'll take the cramped numbers, since this area works so well.

Is it me or is there a problem with the copper penny/clad dime/silver dime all sound the same and read out the same?
Today at a park dating 1922 I found a soft area (50x75) that had rich, dark and loose soil.
Working slow I got a deep clear high tone reading 26-27..I was really hoping for a merc.. but a dang 59 memorial was 6 inches down.
No more than 5 feet away I got another 26-27 hig

I had a vaquero... probably the deepest machine I’ve ever used super tuned. BUT! it loved deep iron when ran on outer limits. Even more then the deus. It did a good job hunting but once once you run VDI... it’s hard to go back.

Being a “land lubber” lol this was my first time actually hunting in the ocean. Last year at Destin I found LOADS of bottle caps, oil tabs and a silver rind in the chair sitting area.
When I arrived the ocean was like glass.. waves were just lapping up shore. No rips, no cuts no flats. As the week progressed strong storms came in and pulled a lot of sand.... it seemed
As a wall of sand was

I was at Fort Walton Beach FL this past week with the Equinox 800 and waterproof headphones. I would usually hunt in the mornings and evening/night. I hunted the sitting area (beach combers came through every morning) so not much there but some shallow change.
Then in the water? Nothing. No signals what so ever. I did my best to grid areas, but Still nothing. What am I missing? Are there spec

Add Etrac depth meter (it actually works)
Fix hyper sensitive coil issues over shallow targets (There’s one target Minelab not 4!) lol
Hire more than one guy to build coils, water Proof head phones, accessories etc
Add a user button to switch to multi /conductive

My wifey asked “Why haven’t you been metal detecting?” It’s to freaking hot!
I hunted in the fall winter spring almost every chance I got...In the south... you guys know the pain.
By 10:00 AM it’s sweltering. And normally hard packed red clay is no fun digging in!
I know it seems like I’m wining.. maybe I am.. lol
Anyone else not hunt as much in the searing heat?

Yeah just speculating here but as said above... Tom more than likely does a WHOLE lot more behind the scenes work than we would ever know.
It’s like Steven Spielberg....you don’t see the guy in the movies, but you know when he directs one as it’s top notch.

I enjoy the videos Dr. Tones. You edit and cut them very well. Looks professionally done.
I for one spend an hour editing my videos and they look like my 6 year old did it!
But being at this 14 months I have learned a lot from many videos of varing quality... I’m glad they exist because even though it goes unsaid...we do enjoy them and learn from them.

On my lunch break I’ve been pouring over maps at my local library. Shelves after shelves loaded with books and maps
I stumbled across a camp and date. I then took a photo and overlayed it on google earth matching streams and terrain.
It matches and.... it’s in a field!
I then looked up the county register of deeds and got the owners address to seek permission.
I’m sure it’s been pounded

Nice report TNSS. I use the deus and Equinox almost exclusively now. Lately.... almost always Equinox. I keep recovering goodies from areas I’ve hit before with many detectors.
Could be that I didn’t grid properly but one thing is for sure.. the nox works and works well.
