Whenever I hear the words “ground balance”, I think of the Video that Keith S. did on the Tesoro Vaquero in which dialing back the ground balance knob 1/4 turn (negative gb) resulted in considerably more depth…I realize that the Vaquero is a single freq machine but perhaps trying a manual gb adjustment on the Legend might prove to be beneficial ?…

There is surely something going on with the tone break…..I was dealing with the penny/dime issue whereby not clearly telling by neither tone nor number in many cases what I would be digging up…..Running 4 tones, I adjusted the last tone break to 45 rather than 40….This was a setting close to where dimes and pennies were reading close to the same…..The numbers didn’t change when hitting a target,

Sven,
Thanks for the update ....Much appreciated ....I just picked up a nearly new Vaquero that has the 5.75 Widescan coil on it .....Great for tot lots and such .... The 5.75 is like a sugeons tool in the dirt, and pretty deep for a small coil ...
So you say it was so long ago ...What are you using to detect with now and how do you like it ? .....Thanks ...JIm

Hi Sven ,
Thanks for the info ....
On your first video that you have listed ....What do the stickers represent ....I'm guessing SF is "small foil " .....What are the others ? ....
You also mention "segments " are you talking about the lined area's starting at like 8 o'clock and progressing clockwise to approx 5 o'clock ? ....Each segment represent

Hi Guys ...
I've been away for a bit , and have a couple of Vista Gold questions ....
1) What mode have you guys found yourselves using with the Vista Gold for best results ?
2) What mode ,or how have you been setting the machine up to go the deepest ?
I've got the stock coil on my machine now ....I'm contemplating getting the Super Six coil for more intricate detect

Aw Jim-----That's gonna backfire on you big time one of these days!-----She's gonna end up wanting/DEMANDING you buy her that Honda CRV when you go to buy that 8" donut (or similar) coil you've been ah wantin! ha ha

ALWAYS buy your wife something when you buy yourself a coil , or anything else for that matter ...... It can be a parellel gift like buying her a piece of jewelry , everytime you buy a coil .... This way she will be asking you when you are buying your next coil rather than complaining that you are buying one ...... Jim

I do air tests to find out what numbers I hit, or where the needle on the meters fall , or what sound comes out of each detector when swiping various targets .... I don't use air tests at all for depth tests .........As far as depth goes , I NEVER judge ANY of my machines by how far away from the coil I can move a target ..... Jim

Daniel ,
From what I have been reading on the various NEL coils , they seem to BETTER the stock coils of the same size .....So for example , if a brand XYZ makes a small coil , and the NEL company makes a coil of about the same size , the NEL seems to be able to run at higher sensitivity , it runs more quietly, and has better seperation .....In this case scenario , i would opt for the NEL coil

3 x 15 and 5 x 18 sounds like a great dry / damp beach sweeping coil to me !!...... Plenty or area covered ( no problem overlapping here ) and razor sharp accuracy due to the narrow coil !!...... Jim

I'm not much of a relic hunter , but since the Sov doesn't really ike to deal with iron much , I don't think it would work al lthat well ....I could be wrong .....Even with the Iron Mask settings on them , I did not find them that good with masking ....... The best use I found was for the beach and saltwater situations..Pck your poison as far as coils go .....The 10 x 12 SEF was c

I own both newer tech machines and older tech machines......Both technologies are good at what they do ......A good hybrid is in order .....Something with Analog tones , with the speed of digital , and the power that will handle it all ....Jim

I'd rather have the extra turns for a more fine GB especially when hunting the beach where your GB changes from the Saltwater , the the Wet Saltwater sand , to the damp sand , and then to the dry .....The conditions are CONTANTLY changing , and to have these chages dialed in accurately is a big help ..... Starting points are determined by mineral / salt content .......Jim

I guess I"m just use to mining disasters that occur hundreds of feet below the ground happening up here in the N.E. and in most cases , people make it out alive ..... I guess its a different scenario there in Fla ..... My buddy is there in Fla and is having his bathtub removed , and a shower installed in it's place for his disabled wife ..... He is neck deep in licenses , permits ,

If more detectorists would stop buying into the rebadged, and the stupid add on's that come down the pike , perhaps these compnies will take note ...... I have never been fond of Garrett machnes until the AT Pro came out ..... When I saw the extended iron range , and how well they had the discrimination set up for it , and how they set things up so I could turn the iron audio on and off ,

I concur with everything you said ....Glad you're enjoying the V Gold ..... As you said , it really IS a telling machine .....You really don't miss an ID meter ......I'm still new to mine , and I can see that it just get's esier and easier to ID targets ......I really don't mine digging foil , nickels , or pull tabs .....I know I'm in the GOLD range and soon enough I

If enough people here in the States show we require unmasking in our iron like they do in the old county.....Then there's no telling what we can see..GMP's might even consider disarming the wireless headphones ....
I for one would have thought that some of the larger detector companie's would have already jumped on some sort of masking inclussion that really worked like the Vi

That is so cool when the machines come out and scape off a layer .......I hit a a beach like that , and it was like going back in time .......You had to really work at it to find any newer coins .....Every coin I hit was a Buffalo Nickel , or a Wheatie or a Merc ....It was GREAT !!.....With everytthing scraped like that , the AT PRo would have been fun !!....Jim
