Certainly not your average field test as he certainly covers it well both good and bad....
Keep in mind you may not have Tom's abilities, even two exact same units are not equal and and from State to State and across the waters conditions vary so your results may differ..a tad or two....

To cause problems just want to let those guys willing to spend big bucks for the next best thing to sliced bread to know plus and minus features..Are they lighter, are they built like tanks, do they go deeper, are they faster. are they noiser and do they have to be sent in for updates plus many more attributes all come to mind....so choose wisely and above all use what works for you...

With older units with the exception of the 1266 with its snap crackle and pop they were relatively quiet and for that matter still are..One new company is flooding the market with high priced light units that are poorly made and above all EMI is quite prevalent..Although they have different colors, names and the like their workmanship is poor at best
so personally we still have rock solid compan

Seems like you made a good run with Whites so why change as they are an excellent longtime company that builds excellent units with super service after the sale..As far as some of these new units just too heavy, poorly made and yes EMI is prevalent in many. In your case stick with what works for you..

Good thought Tom but the infield to me in the direction of first base gets the most action but of course before and after the season as imagine in season a no-no....Once hunted the home field of the 1901 XXXXXXX braves and only one broken gold class ring from 1923 but came away with silver back to seated and most indian head pennies(10) I ever dug in one hunt so don't rule out those farmland

Markg has the right idea...about 1/3 of the gold rings lost are foil on a metered unit....dig foil as thats where the thin womens gold rings some with nice stones are found and increase your odds...As far as tabs the parks I hunt are loaded with pulltabs I would never get off of my knees if I dug all of them while there sure is foil not 10 percent of the tabs. Only dig a tab if I get that gut fee

Indeed time of day, weather conditions can equate to your unit either working better or perhaps poorer and some days we just get lucky and swing over the target from the right direction which adds to the equasion.
One other aspect to consider is some units just react better to a slow or slower swing and after the sun goes down even the young bucks get tired and if they are using one of these u

Had one when they first came out and seems different names for different facets but with a learning period a nice deep unit and did get some nice deep silver with it..Unfortunately must have been a lot of beer drinkers in my area over the years and many areas have a lot of rusty bottlecaps and a coinstrike called most of them a coin and never heard of a valid way to tel them from high coins so ra

Well here goes and certainly respect Toms input as he has the technical knowledge and well I have laymans knowledge from using every CZ model ever made since 92..
It was explained to me by a Fisher tech in the 90 the numbers on the ground balance are guides and how slow or quick the balance changes is the key to actual mineralization hot or cold ground and two identical CZ's balanced in t

The reason for my post was from personal experience..While hunting the N.J. shore one fellow found a ring that looked like a copper junker with faker stones...WRONG...turn of the century Russian with real stones worth big bucks. So if not sure get checked...
As far as experience across the waters spent my military time in Germany where beer was beer(nuff said)...and in U.S. we drink colored wate

Only your jeweler can tell you for sure...Have seen gold dull a tad depending on conditions but like the other feel it not gold.
Might add old Russian gold items are not marked and they have a strong copper look unlike our gold so might get it checked out...

Just kidding of course as I don't travel far anymore due to health limitations but one can never learn enough about the hobby and its various aspects.
For those not aware George Streeter is a dealer and certainly a credit to the hobby with his efforts to educate and promote the hobby..

Even after using a CZ of one model or the other since 92 always that one rusty nail to fool you especially if its deep but looks like you are a quick learner and congragulations on a super day in the field.CZ's do have a language of their own and can see even less junk with more time in the field.
As this is an open forum might Google Mikes CZ page as it has a lot of good info for CZ users

Garrett makes a good product and backs them up.Once they get the bugs worked out am sure it will hang in there with the big boys without the large price tag of many competitors.Reading researching and talking to fellow detectorists seems like its a different beast with newer innovations and imagine will entail a learning period.
As far as the T2 had an early one and seems to be a love hate kind

Gee I hope you are not swinging out there when its lightning out (sort of a death wish)
Heck major golf tournaments continue in the rain to a degree but one bolt of lightning and play is suspended..
Not saying golfers are smarter than detectorists but lets hope we both respect Mother Nature alike...and being an ex fisherman can relate to Jimmyjiver comment rel earthworms as we used to shock

Best advice I can give use what works best for you in your neck of the woods and don't get fancy with Explorer settings as different settings, mineralization, external interference are all dealth into the equasion.
Over the years certainly a debateable and many do well with either as far as depth and stability..
Always remember my first day with an Explorer XS hunting an old grove poun

Heck my son is the moderator Tom's age....
Tried a whole bunch over the years as part of the hobby I guess and imagine a CZ will be my all time favorite when I hang up my boots but then again so many detectors so little time...so who knows....

CZ's are old technology that really works and Tom does a terrific job enhancing the hobby and tunes CZ3D's to perfection...CZ's had a good 20 year run and one of these days may even see the end of production of the CZ3D
as the new Fisher is concentrating on technology. Read between the lines on every forum as not all posted is a truism as operator error has to be taken into consid

A couple days with an experienced mentor can make up for reading, researching, experimenting..
Many years ago with my first XS spent 3 hours on the phone with one and really cut down on the learning period.
Sure a heavy beast with the best guts of any unit around but for most a long learning period and yes even the best dig trash as even an Explorer is not perfect or for that matter either

Speaking in laymans terms for you buddy hunters silent interference may be there even if not using like units.
Certainly in a planted hunt usually targets are shallow so not a problem but if you feel your performance is much better while hunting alone your buddy's unit might be silently interferring so may be time to evaluate the situation and perhaps change your hunting unit when hunting w

From time in the field, reading, researching over the years always came to the conclusion the higher the freq. the better on gold and the lower the better on silver..But with newer technology different setups actually don't feel thats a truism anymore seeing more and more top of the line units coming out with high freq's that excell on both.
Older technolgy such as two freq or multiple

Having used many units from various manufacturers I find tolerances vary along with tuning and two of the same unit
can vary in performance....A bad solder joint, weak component and yes even a coil not up to par along with settings, operator error and severe mineralization plus electrical interference all can add to the equasion..never compared two E-tracs but hunted with fellows with identical

Considering pennies in general not including large cents probably cover 20 digits on a 1-100 meter from early indian heads to newest Zinc overall the odds just favor you hitting pennies more often and deeper. I do know an Explorer is a complex unit and an experienced Explorer operator can usually tell a penny from a dime by learning the movements of the crosshair and of course the adjustments com

I personally think it may energize good objects in the ground but its a two faced sword and also energizes the junk.
Having said the above humid, dry, hot, cold days may influence the operation of your particuliar unit and weather does have an effect on the hobby, depth, stability, and general performance but to what degree have no idea..

Under most conditions an Explorer will interfer with a CZ's performance however..
Heres something you might try turn on your CZ and stand close to your hunting buddy and when he turns on his Explorer theoretically using the Explorer facet it should seek out a frequency so it won't be interferred by the CZ and vice vera and you should be both good to go.. Just a thought on this rainy

Honestly read several stories on CZ's and have seen from personal experience my post is a truism..
Usually have an answer or opinion...but at this moment speechless but must mention one manufacturer made A and B units and some units have frequency changers for this circumstance but never heard of one for a CZ.
Hope she doesn't read and any input guys and gals.....

Tip of the hat to Tom for his work on the CZ3D as I used both the new and old and both performed well but perhaps I was lucky..Reading between the lines when perusing a post (mentally put in my neck of the woods)
before the post as we all know or should know mineralization differs from area to area and above all from State to State and across the waters and performance may differ( in your neck o
